    Riding in the cubby hole behind the seat. That was a time before America turned into wimps. I remember playing in the back of the station wagon with my brother. Those old wagons were like a playground in the back. Riding in the back of pickups, the list goes on. You got hurt, your dad told you to suck it up and quit whimpering. We survived.

    My dad had a green 68 ranchero. It last ran in 1987. He bought a 68 Fairlaine for parts as he hit a deer with the ranchero. The goal was to replace the hood. I remember that being on it , and it stood out since it was primer gray lol.
    later, when we kids would play flashlight tag or manhunt, i sometimes would hide in the bed of the truck. He had some parts back there, which made it difficult to a lay down. Also, you could feel bugs and spiders crawl on you.
    Sometime around 2010, we finally had the truck and parts car sold to someone. We were just happy to get them out of the driveway after so many years.

    Had a '68 Ranchero 40 years ago. Lime Gold 289 w/ 3 on the column. Worn out nylon cam gear threw the timing chain and carb backfired causing a fire. Thank goodness it happened in front of a house w/ a garden hose nearby so it didn't burn to the ground. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I did mine 👍

    I almost had an ElCamino .1964 , about the frame of a nova not full sized. Had a 4 speed 302 I think. $700. In 1973 , but dad said dont buy someone else's headache . so I waited and bought New1974 RoadRunner last year production of RR beep beep. She had three miles on it in the showroom. She really was a great car.

    your video driving it reminded me of my old 63' Studebaker but your ranchero doesn't seem to have the getty up that mine had what's the cid on yous I think I might've missed it. mine was a 289 but I had dual quads on mine...2 750 cfm hollies the part where you were having a hard time stopping really took me back remembering always having to pump up the brakes but as I recall mine had 4 wheel drum brakes I was gonna keep mine all original but after loosing a race on woodward ave in downtown Detroit I set to modifying mine a customer of mine who had a1968 Chrysler Valiant wanted an up grade on his so I pulled out the 318 (317.5 cid) he was running & slipped in a rebuilt pontiac 350 in his car & he left it up to me how to dispose of his 318 so I put a new set of rings on it & had a buddy of mine put in new valve seats & crome valves & slipped it in my studebaker & boy what a differance it made over my 289 cid V8 not long after that I put in disc front brakes all that pumpping came to an end.

    For some reason I didn't get any notification on either this video or part two, hopefully that has changed. You sold me with the slotted mags. LOL Had them on my '69 hemi roadrunner (4spd). The only way to tell the difference between the 289 and 302 will be decoding your vin. The difference is the 302 has a 1/8" longer stroke. Curious if it's a "C" or "k" code Windsor. More people are familiar with the Chevy El Camino, but the Ranchero has been around longer. A guy up the road from me rebuilt a "74 with a 351 4spd. Now to watch Part 2.

    Love the car! I just traded a 66 Ranchero in the same condition except with a 289 in it, for a 2008 Chevy Malibu on Friday, I had my Malibu for sale and one of the guys at work asked about it and said his brother was looking for a first car for his daughter and asked if I would talk to him at lunch if he called and I said sure, so at lunch he called him and while we were talking he said he wouldn't mind seeing my car but he was looking for a strait up trade that he had a 66 ranchero that was he and his wife's 3rd car that they drove when their cars were in the shop or broke down and he'd like to just strait up trade it for my Malibu if it was what his brother said it was, After work I followed his brother to their house and he looked at my car while I looked at his and test drove them, after the test drive we both thought 'There's no way in hell he'll take a strait up trade because these car is amazing" but after getting back we both said "Strait up trade works for me" I slapped my plates on the ranchero and drove home, he was looking for a good reliable car for his daughter and I was looking for a classic to tinker around with while I drove it, both worked far behind what we wanted. Mine is White but definately needs a paint job but other than a good clean up and some pretting up the rest of it prefect. I went and had it inspected this morning and had the plates from Malibu transferred over to the Ranchero. My neighbor who is a County Sheriffs Deputy came over Saturday morning while I was giving it good bath and deep cleaning the interior and engine bay to look at it and noticed that the plates were off my Malibu and said "It'll be fine as long as you don't do anything to get the cops attention until you can get them transferred over and I won't tell anyone if you take me for a ride after your done cleaning up" then chuckled.... I'm not doing much else to it other than a repaint, painting the engine block red, Yes, I know it's supposed to be black, and going to put a chrome dress up kit on it just to make it look pretty, the interior is almost new condition and really just needed cleaned up really good and I'm just going to daily drive it, I just wanted a classic to drive and have fun on the weekends taking to cruise-ins and local car shows and it certainly fits that bill.

      @@SpeedBumpGarage Def worth doing then! Hell, you do that, throw an HVAC kit from VintageAir in the cab, put a nice AM/FM radio in there, and you could just straight up sell the new truck outright. That old Chevy would do everything it does at that point.
      'Tis something I'm looking into for my next daily. I'm planning on a car from the 1930s-40s for that, which aren't geared too much differently to that Apache. If it's a 3-on-the-tree I'm prolly gonna just alter the rear end ratio and retain the stock trans because I don't want to change anything more than absolutely necessary, but I may do a trans swap if I end up with a floor shifted car. if it's a Ford like I want I'll go for the same model of 4-speed that's in my '85 F150.

    The body looks straight and pretty clean, other than the rust of course. My guess is it's never been wrecked. The 272, 292, and 312 all use same block. Easiest way to tell is pull a head and measure the bore and strike. I think the 312 has bigger crank bearings than the other two, but you would need a block you knew the size of to compare. If it's the original moter, which it probably is, the VIN number would tell. There are web sites where you can look up VINs.

    • @TestECull
      @TestECull 3 года назад +1

      This one isn't a Y-block, so you're barkin' up the wrong tree with those numbers. Pretty sure pulling the valve covers and looking at head casting numbers would be sufficient here.

    • @SpeedBumpGarage
