Story behind the whistle at the end - apparently, he was recording an album, and they recorded this song. However, he hadn’t actually finished the lyrics, so he whistled at the end to fill something in, until he could finish the song, after which he’d come back and record the finished version. Unfortunately, he died before he could finish it, and now that whistle is one of the most recognizable pieces of music ever. Also, I agree with others - check out “Try A Little Tenderness”, which is probably my favourite Otis song!
Wow, I did not know that. At first I thought this was going to be like the "Where do we go" from Sweet Child of Mine. Where they didn't have the lyrics yet and just through in filler "Where do we go, where do we go now" literally in the song because they didn't know where to take it at that point. But worked so well they left it in. His death puts a more somber note on the whistle. Kind of like the Roy Orbison video for "You Got it" video placed on a waving piece of cloth because he died before they could make the video. They had concert footage but it was grainy so they figured out how to make that not a factor. Thanks for the commentary.
I was a 15 year old runaway near San Francisco sitting on some nameless dock listening to this song. Certain notes, chord progressions, vocal drops and memorable lines that have become immortalized over the years for their popularity; he seems to recognize their worth, and reacts accordingly. Everybody been requesting this forever..just like I been requesting bone thugs and harmony and goodie mob and Warren g..ain't gonna ever happen I'm afraid
"Looks like nothing's gonna change. Everything remains the same. I can't do what ten people tell me to do...so I guess I'll remain the same." This poetic confession of resignation as sung by Otis Redding, has been copied by other artists. But there's a subtle urgency in his voice that has made this song distinctly his own 🥰

Nostalgia... hadn’t heard this song in years. So good.
My mom loves this song I grew up with Motown and all of the 70s rock 🙋🏻♀️
The guitar is from Steve Cropper who co-wrote the song & mixed the song after Redding's death.
Cropper was a member of Booker T. & The MGs who were best known for the instrumental "Green Onions".
Cropper also appeared in The Blue Brothers movie.
His voice paired with that dynamic horn section. Marvelous. Super production.
Stax Studios in Memphis!
I love seeing your reactions. Makes me remember the first time I heard these songs.
2 min in, almost 300 comments!! LOVE Ottis Redding!!!
He also did ' Try A Little Tenderness.'. Another classic.
If you haven’t listened to Gordon Lightfoot’s “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald “ try it. November 10 is the 45th anniversary.

These guys get it even though they're not from the time. Been watching your videos for a while now. It's just shows how The Human Condition continues on from one generation to the next :-)
Why would you have to be from the time in order to appreciate a song?
Nina Simone “black is the color of my true loves hair” one of the most amazing voices ever!
Yes to Nina Simone!!! My fave is "The Other Woman"

I was just a little girl when this song came out, huge hit, and then heard on the radio that he had been killed in a plane crash. So tragic.
You think this is good? Listen to Otis "I've been loving you too long to stop now"

Yes!!! My favorite
Listen to his song "Try a Little Tenderness" It's my all time favorite.
You can totally tell the young Man on the left is a “musician!” The parts of various songs that are noteworthy; his reactions are right on time.
Certain notes, chord progressions, vocal drops and memorable lines that have become immortalized over the years for their popularity; he seems to recognize their worth, and reacts accordingly.
I could watch him enjoy music all day!
I remember family Thanksgivings at a campground, and my beloved Uncle Jay who would strum this song out on his guitar, singly as sweetly as Otis Redding. Good times, fantastic song, great memories...
Tears for Fears- Everybody Wants To Rule The World
Good call!
One of my favorite songs ever. Solid choice.
Yes yes yes 🙏🏾
Everybody been requesting this forever..just like I been requesting bone thugs and harmony and goodie mob and Warren g..ain't gonna ever happen I'm afraid
Lets keep the faith
Incredible, legendary song and artist! Glad you heard it!
"Looks like nothing's gonna change. Everything remains the same. I can't do what ten people tell me to do...so I guess I'll remain the same."
This poetic confession of resignation as sung by Otis Redding, has been copied by other artists. But there's a subtle urgency in his voice that has made this song distinctly his own 🥰
You’ve hit the nail on the head. There’s an personal intensity when Otis sings it. That’s what makes this song a cut above most others.
Otis was legend. I so glad my Dad introduced me to the classics ❤️
being an older gal, you two young Men impress me, love how you take the time to hear different artists..take a listen to these 2 Greats, Van Morrison and John Lee Hooker doing 'Gloria'..if you know anything about Van, you'll know he holds John Lee in the highest regard, they bang this song out!...thanks.
His vocal tone always gives chills and this song takes you right there
Another great who died in a small-plane crash. So many died that way.
Buddy Holly and LaBamba guy
snakelite61 The plane crashed about 15 miles from where I live.
Patsy Cline too. :-(
@@oaktree1628 John Denver too.
Ricky Nelson and Lynyrd Skynyrd too. 😪
The guy died at 26. Imagine what he could have done. What a voice
One of the greatest songs by one of the greatest voices. He brought authenticity to all the songs he sung. Great call on this one. I’ve often dropped the top and just cruised the coastline listening to this.
It takes a special kind of confidence to put a whistling solo in your song - love this so much!
