I wasn't sure if I'd really like this but this was so good. I don't think I'll ever put ketchup on a hot dog ever again. Those onions are magic. Thank you for recipe!!

Every hotdog stand in New York City has the red onion sauce. Sabrett selles in a jar and heated up it tastes and feels like a true New York hotdog. My preferred toppings are red onion sauce, sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard.… Takes me right back to Bay Ridge 😉

Looks great boys. There used to be a link to Martha Stewart’s site for her NY hot dog onions( dead link now). She used a little water, tomato paste , hot sauce, sugar, red wine vinegar, minced garlic, onions to her recipe. I like the tang and sweet- sour- hot taste with her tweeks. Watch those metal tongs and Teflon. You don’t want PTFE flicking off into your onions!

I'm sorry, but the hot dogs need to be cooked in the oil. You don't need olive oil, plain cooking oils are fine. Add excess oil from the onions or cook onions with more oil and separate onions to cook the dogs. Need salt directly on the dogs after cooking (try it before so no) Need to get the rolls wet with oil.
Here in NJ, they come with deep fried, sliced potatoes over the onions, and more salt. I put the potatoes to the side and get extra onions.
If you're looking to make this healthier, don't waste your time. It's all or nothing with this sandwich.

Love the onions...BUT YELLOW MUSTARD???? really???? Been all over NYC for 60+ years, it's ALWAYS BROWN mustard. Besides, NEVER seen a boiled Nathan's, always grilled. Sabretts is the true dirty water dog. All your videos are awesome except this one. Sorry
