  • Unison Colour began creating pastels in the early 1980s and today they hand produce over a quarter of a million sticks a year. The pastels are made in Northumberland and contain only pure pigments in a cycle of related hues, meaning the results are intense and bright, rather than being muddied by the blending of colours. We spoke to artist Nina Squire to find out more.
In this film, Nina goes into detail about the qualities of Unison Colour soft pastels that make them unique. She shares technical tips about how to get the best results when using soft pastels, and also the tools and materials you may need to get started with or develop your practice with them.

SO HELPFUL! Really enjoyed this. One part in particular--the demo with the different papers answered a lot of questions. I can see EXACTLY why I didn't like one of the papers that I've tried! And there's another that I definitely will not be purchasing. Overall, lots of tips and information that was useful. Thank you!!!

I have a question, I would like to buy the ACJPH196 JACKSON'S EMPTY PASTEL STORAGE CASE, but it is not clear from the description whether the boxes shown are included in the purchase or not.
Are they included in the case, or are they bought separate ? I want it for shorter handmade pastels like Unsion.

Hi there, apologies for the delayed response. Our Empty Pastel Storage Case does include the boxes. Thanks, the Jackson's Team

What is the "liquid" used in the first instance with the large brush at 16: 46 mins?

I'm using water but you can use alcohol as it evaporates and drys more quickly than water.
