Case Large Stockman Micarta. Let's open it together and see if I got a good one, or another lemon, shall we?
This unboxing will likely decide if I ever buy another Case knife.

Don't care if the edge comes toothy, as long as the grind is good (GEC comes toothy too), and I'm happy with Tru-sharp steel even though many folks are rude about it. But do Case make a good knife? Yes, when they want to. Too often though they don't - their Quality Control is non-existent. To put in context, I return 1 in 10 GECs but I return 4 in 5 Cases. Here in the UK it's almost impossible to buy these knives other than by mail order, but if you can possibly examine a knife before you buy, that's the way to go - particularly with Case. Great presentation of three similar knives from three different brands, enjoyed that.
To avoid blade rub on a Stockman, always open the central blade (usually Sheepfoot) before either of the others, then close it again after you've opened the blade you want to use. Not everyone can be bothered with that rigmarole though.

Okay , it’s great to see somebody putting out videos on traditional slipjoints again . Most seem to have fallen off the radar a couple three or four years ago . You are spot in about the toothy edges on Case knives . Every one I’ve ever gotten has been that . Most have a burr on one side so it’s obvious on which side was put to the grinder last . I believe what Case calls their “Tru Sharp” steel is equal to a 420hc which is what Buck went to in later years . Maybe like a 440c and not as good as 440a . It’s good pocket knife steel though . A bit sad about you’re bone handled stockman . You should return it and have them make things right .
Gotta get up early for a doctors appointment in the morning but I’ll watch more if your stuff when I get a chance .

Same experience with Case. I wanted one for a while and bought a stockman on sale at a hardware store packaged in a clamshell pack. They are packaged with the blades open. the sheepsfoot blade was so bent it had a curve in it like a pringle potato chip. I returned it and never bought another one again. Then last Christmas I got a small Case trapper with a bone handle from my mom and it is a beautiful knife. This one came in a box. It is my favorite watch pocket knife. I think the issue with Case is that they're handmade and they don't pay attention to quality control.

They cut a lot of corners to try and keep costs down, which I get.. But honestly, I would rather than put a little more time and effort into their knives to make sure that ALL of them are up to standard, and would gladly pay more for them. But when other companies produce twice the knife for half the cost, its hard to justify or recommend their products.
But yeah, if they put in the effort, would I pay $100 for what is today a $64 Case knife, knowing its been made properly? Hell YES.

Man am I nervous (I was excited) ...I bought a 6375 amber bone jumbo stockman with a med job sheath and its going to be here tomorrow, this will be my first Case knife. I hope I'm not disappointed. My 2nd concern is if I got the right sheath, all they give is some measurements that it will fit a 4.5" closed knife, my is 4.25" so it should be the right one but there is no info on what sheath to get.

Just and update...The knife arrived today and I'm very happy, got a good one, the knife was purchased from Knife Country USA, and everything is very well done, all the transitions are excellent, tiny amount of blade rub on the sheepsfoot and spey and not enough to bother me and I'm very picky about that, none on the main clip point, I did have to put about 20 swipes on each blade on the whetstone, its labeled as CS (Case states 1095) the amber jigged bone is superb, the mirror polish is great, clean tangs, the back springs passed the visual test with no spaces visible but not the light test, and its very minor on one side, My hats off the the fine people at Knife Country USA, I don't know if they hand picked that knife, but its a keeper and the medium job sheath was superb as well and fits the jumbo stockman perfectly.

Nice video. I agree Case knives are hit or miss. From my perspective, most pass my value vs. quality standard and I don’t send many back. I do tune up all the blades when they come in. (Strop and or fine stone). You should try the Copperhead last year’s special knife of the year,, but you can still get them. I have several GEC’s but I have given up on them because they are so limited. I don’t have the patience to hunt around and try to get one. I gave you a 👍, but I probably shouldn’t because I’m still pissed that you got rid of the Z900rs. 😃

My experience with Case the last 3 years has led me to believe- They CAN make a good knife... but they won't.
I'd recently gone back to my childhood preference for my G'father's & Uncle's knives- meaning Case. I have some Benchmade and Microtech but I retired and larger blades are overkill now... plus my new breakfast and lunch crowds get nervy around autos. I get it. In my Case collection (exceeding 30, including a few I inherited) no 2 open and close the same. ALL made after the 80s have hotspots transitioning to bolster. NONE could even be opened without scratching the blade finish- on the knife itself. Bad pins... Lazy Closes vs Nail Breakers... on and on BEFORE some of them are getting close to the $100 mark. Most notably- I never bothered calling about warrenty stuff cuz an argument over how to pronounce abalone gets us nowhere.
Then someone handed me a Lionsteel BM1... and I couldn't decide between that or a BM2. So I bought them both. (To replace spey blades, med and large pens, and a newer upgraded Buck)
Now I'm liquidating my Case products for others: a JACK1 (to replace toothpicks & slimline trappers) & a BM13 (to replace half stockman and mini copperheads). Maybe a Warhorse or Shuffler (to replace barlows & trappers). I've held about 15 in the Traditional Series and the consistency of build, action, and out of the box sharpness is shocking! Shocking that the word hasn't gotten out about this Italian company. And shocking that Case isn't feeling the heat!

Its another case of a company that has let quality control go to hell, and they survive only because of their "history"... Their quality is so hit or miss these days... The Chinese companies are crushing their quality, at half the price, and sooner or later, Case is gonna fail. If not for the fact that they cater to the "collectors"... which in most cases means "hoarders"... They would have had to close their doors years ago...

I own 6 Case knives myself and have owned many others in the past. I prefer the CV steel and the only stainless one I have now is the single blade Copperhead (because it’s beautiful and can’t find it in CV.) That being said, I’ve never had any trouble getting the true sharp stainless steel sharp. I’ve had them whittling hair. It’s not S30V or 20CV but it’ll absolutely get sharp. I carried a Case Trapper for about 6 years straight with that steel. Everyone that knew me knew my knife to be scary sharp at all times. I’m not just saying that because I sharpen knives well. My copperhead is plenty sharp after a stropping right out of the box.
