Instead of everything happening in a full year like the original series, the following seasons will be after 2-3 years in the series's timeline. They will do this to account for Gordon's (Aang) and Kiawentiio's (Katara) growth in real life. This is to avoid having teenagers play kid roles like Stranger Things.

I think they're changing up a lot of the story. He's not allowed to be goofy and ride the coy fish or anything like that. They took out some of the character development by not letting Saka be Saka, and learn how to be better and put his sexist ways in the background. That's why the original creators left

Since they took out sokkas character development from a sexist to a women respecting character, I really hope they didnt do this out of ignorance and gave him atleast a similar good character development story. I am a little bit worried that this is just the tip of the iceberg and the attitude that led to this change influenced way more parts of the characters and the story.
It’s embarassing that we’re still talking about this. I watched the show like 5 times in my childhood and it’s not that deep. I only actually noticed it now as an adult because people kept praising the writers for it in recent years. It was mentioned in a handful of episodes and after the Kyoshi warrior episode, never mentioned again. And remember when Nick runs this thing, they don’t show it in a chronological order. You watch the episode they give you. And as a kid, it really felt like it was done for the purpose of comedy. All I see here is nitpicking

It’s apart of water tribe culture. Sokka going away from that and learning differently is a huge part of his character. He always beleived it was up to him to take care of everyone because he was the only guy left but he was wrong. He meets many powerful women along the way that help shape how he views them. It’s a huge part of his character no matter what age you were when you watched the show. People were proud to see him change. It’s completely normal for a teenage boy to hate on girls. Why take that out of the story, why make it woke? Who exactly is it going to offend?
