It is not because of the word but people laugh because of the way he says it. Ross does not have many funny lines but he makes them funny by using his body, facial expressions and voice. David Schwimmer is very talented.

I want to share a small experience regarding watching friends in office. So me and two of my colleague were listening to Phoebe smelly cat song but that moment our lead pinged us for meeting for the escalation that has happened. She was repiraminding us for the issue, but suddenly one of my colleague started smiling and by seeing her both of us started smiling also. And by seeing this my lead thought that we are making fun of her and literally started scolding us as we are school student. Her exact words were if you don't want to work you guys can leave don't spoil the environment. I was biting my lips to control my laughter .So when the havoc was finished I asked my colleague why she started smiling when she was scolding us . She told me that she remembered the verse of smelly cat that she had heard and could not able to control her laughter😂🤦.
