This is the first time I see Janick playing an Iron Maiden concert without an Iron Maiden shirt... plus, he doesn’t seem to go crazy and dance like he always does ... was he ill?
haha Probably not, but I definitely noticed. Although, there were some pretty crazy MTV/VH1 video clips of the last tour(s) Bruce did in the 90s and Janick was beyond wild. Maybe here to match Blaze's style he brought to Maiden-a bit serious and darker.
I've always thought that Virtual XI and The X-Factor are home to some of Iron Maiden's greatest songs, and that Blaze Bayley is just as great a singer as Dickinson and Di'anno, but live.... Blaze just isn't the natural-born leader of men that Bruce is. In shows like Death on the Road and Rock in Rio, Bruce Dickinson's voice carries this power that simply can't be replicated. I think he is the main reason why Iron Maiden is one of the very few bands that is BETTER live than in the studio.
+David Fellner There are great songs on both albums, but Blaze never fit. Not to say he's not a good singer; he's great on his solo stuff. But Harris tried to make him Bruce 2.0 on these albums and Blaze, being a low baritone, was never built for that.

The body of work on the 2 albums with blaze (including Virus) are great peices of music.. Saw Maiden on this tour. As much as I love The X Factor and the stuff Blaze has done since leaving the band, that night haunts me to this day. Maiden couldn't sell out a leisure centre in Newport, Blaze could not manage the crowd, the singing was not good on the stuff written for Blaze, let alone Paul or Bruce and the 4 piece Eddie that appears during the Iron Maiden song was set up wrong so the head and jaw inflated in the wrong place leading to roadies running on stage kicking the jaw into place.
