After much reconsideration, today I decided to change the title of the video to its proper name, “Ameno,” but being sure to keep, “Dorime,” in parentheses for those who do not know its real name. (Also wanted to point out I believe this is the 2010 remix version of the song, which includes the first few lines before the main “Dorime,” is first said). Thank you ERA for making this song and helping many people get through the ordeal that is life. I never thought that publishing this video, which was originally done for myself and friends to listen to in discord calls while doing silly things, could have any impact at all. I am more than happy to see that people enjoy this.

This dialect of ancient Latin is called “Church Latin.” You see, when Christianity was spreading out of Rome, (Rome ofc. being very notable conquerors, spreading to far off lands in an attempt to take over), then Christian churches would sometimes pop up where there weren’t any Romans to staff them. (In other words, there was a lack of people who spoke fluent Latin because of Rome overstretching its territory.) Because churches were Roman and had to preach in Latin, there were preachers and missionaries who would go to Rome for a while, try to learn enough Latin to preach well, and then come back to their hometown churches (which were often very far away from Rome.) Most preachers would only have a very basic grasp of Latin this way, retaining the bare minimum of the language, but losing a lot of the actual language in translation. Without easy access to someone who knew fluent Latin, preachers would start to make up random words, butcher vocabulary, and morph the proud language of Ancient Greco-Roman Latin into the dialect known today as Church Latin. Church Latin is, as you put it, mostly nonsense, but it’s still based in words of a language that DOES make sense, leaving anyone who puts the two dialects of Latin side by side to draw vague connections of what the Church Latin was trying to get at.
I’m partially fluent in ancient Latin, having taken 4 (going on 5) years of it in school. I haven’t researched deeper or looked into a dissertation of this song from someone who has taken the time to study it in depth, but I gather that this song is trying to get at either “Let me rest” or “Allow us to slumber (in death)”. Most of the words repeated are “sleep” “me” and “let” along with a few random “master” “top” “hold” “wind” and “house”, but I think the random words like that are just a preachers attempt to shorten the main 3.
The grammar is, truthfully very choppy and the parts of speech almost nonexistent, but I still enjoy taking the time to try and understand this song in its intended meaning. Who knows, it might have just been a choir of church boys singing in harmony the only 3 Latin words they know, haha! That would have been a fun for such a popular song in Latin. ☺️
Anyway, in case you didn’t give up reading this after seeing my multiple paragraphs of text, thank you for reading and letting me explain the history behind this dialect of Latin! Hope it was informative and well-received, I like being able to talk about my passions outside the classroom.

@@billhudson7084 Well for starters this band has several albums, at least 3 i believe probably more. There is one particular album I recommend you check out called Ram Play. Its an album with some songs by these guys and another band called E. Nomine. And oh boy do they go HARD. if you need an example of their work my two favorite songs on that album are Das Omen and Mitternacht.
