Don't worry about being confused... it's a pretty normal response for NCT's music on first listen. 😄 Best to approach every song with no expectations because they will almost always subvert them! It's also very common to need to listen to their songs a second or third time, a consequence of pushing the boundaries of music... but it also means the production is always interesting, fresh and detailed.
NCT title tracks tend to be hype, hard-hitting, experimental and rap-focused... whereas their b-sides run the gamut of genres, with a heavy focus on R&B and is where the vocalists are let loose. And trust me when I say, they have some of the very best in kpop.
Favorite is technically a b-side but also sort of a title track, as it was the song they promoted for a repackage of one of their albums. The militant dub-step dance break took us all by surprise the first viewing of the mv, but it isn't in the album version of the song and actually makes a bit more sense if you watch the dance practice. And fun fact, Favorite was produced by Darkchild... legendary producer of the 90's-00's, who worked with some of the best pop and R&B acts of the time.
A good way to hear a sampling of their music as well as their live vocals/rapping, is the *Killing Voice* episodes for *127* and *Dream.*

To be fair, the dubstep dance break isn’t part of the actual track. They only put it for the music video and they do it sometimes for performances as well. I’ve always thought it was so unnecessary and they could’ve easily done away with it because track is amazing as is.

Nct 127 is my fav unit in NCT and 2nd fav group after EXO. Their vocals and the way they harmonise is so good. Wait till you hear their b- side. They're good af.

Like everything NCT does, it's all based on their dream concept. Hence, why in NCT-127's "Favorite (Vampire)" they are vampires and why you see them sleeping in the beginning and end of the MV. Jaehyun was bit by the vampire, which is the girl they sing about and she is the one that turned them all into vampires. It's the intoxicating power of the vampire girl/butterflies that has enchanted them, which is why they say "girl you're my favorite" in the lyrics. They are beguiled by her powers, which has them devoted to her.
This is also why you see them with supernatural vampire abilities like when they flash in and out as they transition between the members. (Often in romantic vampire stories they say the vampires have a shimmering effect.) That's why they focused on Yuta's eyes changing as he transitioned from being human to being a vampire, and why you saw the members become pale and less full of life as the MV went on. Vampires often also have magical powers or are able to control things with their minds, so that is why you saw the rose petals and the smoke trails because they were manifesting them as they were overcome by the passion for their "favorite vampire", etc.
They're all beautiful vampires like Edward and Bella from the Twilight Series, not vampires like Count Dracula who wear a cape and sleep in a coffin, etc. This whole MV was all about becoming a vampire. What do you mean there wasn't a whole lot to do with vampires in this MV? LOL
The butterfly is thought to represent the woman or vampire they are talking about in the song -- instead of turning into a bat, maybe she turns into a butterfly -- which is why you see the butterfly touching their hearts. (In the beginning of the MV you see Taeyong open his mouth and the butterfly flies down his throat on its way to his heart.) You also will see a butterfly appear in several of SM Entertainment's other groups' MVs, which is often used as a metaphor to represent a woman -- possibly representing a connection to the heart of the Tree of Life from EXO's storyline -- in each of the MVs, as a way to connect all of SM's storylines together. For example, in aespa's storyline starting in 2020 Ningning's symbol is a butterfly, which is thought to possibly be connected to the butterfly we see in EXO's debut "Mama" MVs from 2012, and it's even thought, could be connected to the butterflies in SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong" MV from 2009. It also could be the butterfly that helps aespa navigate through Kwangya in aespa's "ep. 2 'Next Level' -- SM Culture Universe" video, which would explain why we see a similar white butterfly in a lot of SM's storylines. The butterfly appears to help everyone as they travel through Kwangya. (Everything SM does has to do with Kwangya -- even SM's new building where everything is created and produced is called Kwangya. Kwangya is the name SM has created for the metaverse that all of SM's groups' and artists' concepts, and most of their MV storylines revolve around.)
Some say the "girl" or "love interest" that EXO -- and possibly now the rest of SM's groups -- is always singing about and you sometimes see in their MVs is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why they are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all their songs are about being in love with someone or being controlled by the power of that person, like they talk about in "Favorite (Vampire)." Or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end, they know they might destroy her -- as they say in EXO's "Monster" lyrics, etc., etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life the storyline and connections between the groups begins to unfold even more.
Because NCT is an SM Entertainment group, it shouldn't be a surprise that they are also amazing singers. As you are starting to discover, SM is known for having some of the best singers in the industry. You can't be an SM artist without having unbelievable vocal abilities. Even the company's rappers focus on vocal training. That is why the company has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry. All of SM's artists and groups are known for being top tier when it comes to live vocals and perfect harmonies.
And, switching up the beat and style of the song in the middle of the song is pretty much how the majority of NCT songs are structured, as well as SM's songs in general. It's kind of SM's signature style. SM is known for combining several different genres of songs together into one song. You will hear that same thing happen in a lot of the songs you listen to from SM. These days it's almost a requirement that the song style and sound completely change in the middle of the song if it's an SM song. Without that switch up, it's not an SM song. (I've heard many songwriters and producers, as well as SM artists say that SM requires all their songs these days to be a fusion of styles.)
NCT-127 (pronounced N C T one two seven) is NCT's second sub-unit, which debuted in July 2016. NCT-127 currently has 9 or 10 members. This group is more of a fixed unit, so the member lineup stays the same most of the time. The 127 in this unit's name stands for the longitude coordinates of Seoul, South Korea, on a map of the world, which means it's 127's job to represent Seoul -- the birthplace of Kpop -- around the world.
There are 9 members in "Favorite (Vampire)" -- Taeyong (the one you see first, who is the leader of all of NCT, main rapper and dancer) Taeil (main vocalist with the high note), Johnny (lead vocalist and sub-rapper with the spoken English lines), Yuta (lead vocalist who is in the bathtub), Doyoung (main vocalist), Jaehyun (main vocalist, sub-rapper and visual, who was bitten), Jungwoo (main vocalist), Mark (main rapper and dancer) and Haechan (main vocalist).

There's so many NCT 127 songs that you'll be think "i think there's 4 songs here" lol. They're always unexpected and giving sounds that you never heard before. I can say they have such an experimental type of music. So it's normal to feel that certain NCT 127's song is not your type of music, meanwhile another songs are your favorite.
Anyway, thankyou for another NCT reaction! I'm highly recommend their performance in killing voice, then you guys can check out what seems standout or make you guys curious from the discography that they performed. Also, because they have mnay subgrups, you guys can also watch NCT Dream in killing voice too because they're undoubtly talented boys just like NCT 127 and WayV.

The fluff on the face...? LOL! I'm super new to NCT still and am still learning their names, but I believe that is Jaehyun who IS the baby of the group of now 20 members.
That is Jaehyun, but he is not the baby. Jisung of NCT Dream has been the baby since he debuted, but when NCT New Team (pre-debut name) finally debuts, they are all younger.

Thanks for reacting to NCT! A little info about them.. NCT is a group under SM Entertainment (EXO’s Label). The group consists of 26 members broken down into 6 subunits. 5 of them are fixed units so the lineup doesn’t change and those are NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV, NCT DOJAEJUNG and NCT Wish (new team so their name isn’t confirmed yet). The remaining unit, NCT U (stands for United), is a rotating unit where the lineup changes according to who fits which song the best. Below is the member distribution for the fixed units, some names will repeat as some members are part of multiple units.
