George R.R. Martin should get together with a composer and actually write all the music from the books, and release a songbook, with chords and everything. Would be really cool.
It's not like the song was written by North men. I don't see why some one would complain about your voice. Definitely captures a low born tavern singer some where near Kings Landing. Perfectly puts Marrilion in my mind.
Songs like this just make ASOIAF feel like an actual living world. It brings so much immersion and makes you not think of just the dark politics and intrigue, but also wonder, thinking of all of the peasants dancing and singing and just living. George RR Martin is incredible.
The Bear: Brienne Tarth Maiden Fair: Jaime Lannister The Bear: Sandor Clagne Maiden Fair: Sansa Stark The Bear: Jorah Mormont Maiden Fair: Daenerys Targaryan
This reminded me of Robert and Cerscei for the most part, considering Robert has black/brown hair and is quite large whereas Cerscei has honey coloured hair. As well as the maid calling for a knight instead of a bear, which might as well be Jaime, so it all sort of links up that way in my head.
Well, it was majestic theory but there's something doesn't make sense. In the end of song fair maiden fall in love because of bear's 'technic'. But Robert and Cercei's relationship was total nightmare. Still, it was greatest GOT theory I've ever saw.
I can see why people may think this song is about rape but to be honest, that theory really only fits one of the verses. To me it sounds a lot like a love story, of a man who is villified for his appearance or something of the like and believes no one would like/love him. He meets people like him (the boys and the goat) and becomes their friend. They meet a girl whom he falls in love with, but who is looking for a much handsomer hero (I called for a knight but youre a bear). She refuses him until she learns of his sweet/gentle disposition and falls for him.
Ashwin Ramaswamy A great deal of things. Honey is created by bees and bees have been seen as a symbol of duty. Licking the honey fro her hair could mean liberating her from her duties, running away together. Also think of the bedding ceremony, where the bride is lifted and carried to the bed chamber, in which case she may have been arranged to marry him and won her favour once getting to know him. Or honey could simply stand for emotional walls that he over comes. Poetry isnt this or that, my friend.
raggedy-smith (Sorry for the english) Interesting interpretation, as for me the song is just an illustration of the sadistic enjoyments by the northmen in the series. Very ironical song where the bear seems to be filled with the purest intentions where let's face it : He's a bear and their dance will never be about something fair.

This song can apply to many relationships in the books. Jorah/Deny (House Mormont's sigil is a bear, and Dany has got fair hair) The Hound/Sansa ("I called for a KNIGHT but you're a bear") Jaimie/Brienne too, in a way - he is blond (fair) and beautiful and she is a very manly maid... also he saves her from a bear...
+Nilesh Kumaraswamy It makes sense, Jorah Mormont married a maiden fair, she drained his resources until he was pressured to sell poachers into slavery. That led to his exile.
I know a lot of people are talking about what this song means about but let’s take a minute to appreciate how great the music is. I remember that in the books when Sansa first met with Olenna and Margaery, the fool was asked to sing this. The way this song has been composed fits perfectly into that situation. Heightened tensions and folksy music.

+The_Howler You can make that connection (although it fits Dany and Jorah much better, since Jorah is a Mormont and therefore a bear), but it's actually about Jamie and Brienne.
NXTG3N3 You could. It fits a lot of the relationships in the story, and that's very likeyl on purpose. But the lyrics most closely and specifically reference Jamie and Brienne (3 boys, a goat, and a dancing bear), and the song is sung multiple times during their story in both book and show.

"All back and brown and covered in hair" "The maid with honey in her hair" "Oh I'm a maid," "I'm pure and fair," "I'll never dance," "With a hairy bear," "I'll never dance," "With a hairy bear!" Dany's reluctance to marry Drogo, and with the final verse her eventual acceptance.
I'd love there to be some more songs in 'The Winds of Winter'. As a ASOIAF fan who loves the world, little things like this just give it that extra dimension.

THANKS again for taking the time to upload it....
Has anyone else noticed that this is most likely about Jorah and his former wife? We know that common singers especially like to make fun of royalty (especially the song about the lion in King Robert's bed preparing him for death and "the boar did all the rest") The sigil of House Mormont is a bear, Jorah is huge and hairy, and he wins his wife not because of good looks, but because he did amazing in a tourney and stole her away to Bear Island (which she ended up hating). I don't think this would be about Jorah and Dany, well because it was already around when they met, and also because the situations just dont match.
This song is about Jorah and his wife, I don't care what George says. Its too fucking similar to that situation. Jorah's sigil is a bear and he met his wife at the fair like in the song. It was written by a prophet who saw what would happen to Jorah in the future. Wasn't there a traveling bard who had visions and who met Dunk and Egg.
Azure Kite It says so in the books, there was a traveling bard who had prophetic dreams, maybe its how the bloody song was written. Every other character in the series has visions, why not the composer of that song.
Listening to this a lot I think I get the story. First I don’t think it’s about characters we know as it was written before the events of the show. But I believe the story goes something like this. An unattractive man and his friends go to a fair or some sort of royal event. There the man met a princess who initially was repulsed by him and wanted a highborn. Then the man does something like save her to make her realise he’s a great guy beyond his appearance of a bear. Then they got married and live happily ever after. That’s my take anyway
As a bear yourself I'm not sure why you're still pretending it's about a man. Are you the bear in question? Why are you hiding? It's a triumphant tale and you won the maiden's consent (eventually)
This is how I always imagined the song sounding when I read the books, not the horrible adaptations in the television shows. Well done sir, sounds fantastic.

James Bond "I don't care what the author of the books says, my theory is canon"
Azure Kite It says so in the books, there was a traveling bard who had prophetic dreams, maybe its how the bloody song was written. Every other character in the series has visions, why not the composer of that song.
I was looking for this on spotify but i can't seem to find it. Honestly this is better than every version out there
ikr
Y cannot put in words how much I apreciatte the song, the video and the chords, you're just amazing.
And the funny thing is that this wouldn't exist if the ideology of that man in your profile picture was the basis of government!
*****
Who's that in your picture?
Even in Westeros, women choose the bear
Love it so much more than the credit version! As someone already said, it sounds like coming from the right era!
This is some hand-choppingly good music! (Tosses a coin to the bard)
golden dragon or silver stag ?
Sorry about the sapphires
*The Rains of Castamere starts playing in background*
This is my favorite rendition. It sounds like I'm in the great Hall of a castle listening to bards strum as we drunkenly dance the night away.
from belgium, nice song (yes still 7 years after ^^ )

begging you to put this on Spotify
This is how I always imagined the song sounding when I read the books, not the horrible adaptations in the television shows. Well done sir, sounds fantastic.
When I read the songs its hard to think how it sounds, so i searched and this is PERFECT!!
Who else is reading the books and looks these songs up to properly read the lyrics in the books?
