This is the best review of this monitor I've seen. All because it actually shows the visual artifacts in actual gameplay - unlike other channels which just provide numbers. It would be nice if this more "practical" review type becomes the norm going forward. Maybe using some standardize tests based on current games.

lots of reviewers are claiming that this monitor is the second coming of christ, and im starting to believe it based on the amount of footage ive seen.
The thing is, the Pixio 275h exists and at half the cost of this one the only sacrifice you make is slower refresh rate from 144Hz to 95Hz (which you wouldn’t notice unless you have an rtx2080ti and can run locked 144 fps on 1440p, and a slower response time.
@@TomasLomba Your post intrigued me, so I did some research. Conclusion: you get what you pay for. The Pixio looks quite good for its price point, but falls short of the LG in several important areas, most notably response time and refresh rate. The crappy stand doesn't help either.

What I was going for is the fact that the pixio is such a good value proposition that the big name brands will have to offer even better price to performance ratios that what is seen here with LG. The monitor is great for the price but I think they could do even better, and should. I was about to pull the trigger on an Aouros AD27QD (600 USD) until I realized that by paying even less than half of that I wasn’t sacrificing so much in the features department.
I do care about HDR but want it to be HDR1000 and there just isn't a 1440p monitor that supports this. I almost bought an Acer Predator X27 which is 4K 144Hz with HDR1000 but didn't because it doesn't support Freesync (in case my next card is AMD or Intel and it's also supported on my current 1080Ti). Freesync is actually the main feature of the monitor as any comparable monitor is G-Sync and the fact this is €100 to €200 cheaper than comparable products from Acer, Asus and AOC.
Although technically speaking, this is the first time we've seen an IPS ACTUALLY ACHIEVING 1ms. No IPS monitor has ever had a 1ms GTG even on overdrive. Even if LG's has inverse ghosting, this achievement actually opens the possibility of eliminating TN overall in the future this technology matures.

I wish some of the reviewers on RUclips would start revealing how manufacturers quality control is declining and how bad it has become. Plus how poor the support is when attempting to resolve these problems for individual purchasers. Apple, Microsoft and many others are selling defective products that are clearly not tested properly when the leave the factory. This can result in a nightmare scenario for people how have saved up their hard earned cash to buy sub standard products that you and many other reviewers have rated highly. Please make a difference and shame these manufacturers into providing a better service. For instance, if you look at the support forums you will find that 25%of Microsoft laptops develop hardware faults within the first year. I am sure many of your subscribers would be so grateful if you could follow up on this suggestion.

Funny story, I bought this monitor a couple years ago and resold it almost immediately because of the halo effect and terrible blacks levels created by the HDR. I never even attempted to turn off the HDR and calibrate the OSD. Now, a little older and a little wiser, I just ordered this exact monitor all over again. Thank goodness it's only $300 now rather than the $500 it was at launch. Live and learn.
It's a great display. Make sure to update the firmware though; there's a few quirks around smart energy saving and HTMI compatibility mode; I had to punch through the OSD to update the settings every time I connected with a certain USB-C/HDMI adapter.
I just got the GP model and am disappointed about the brightness on the left side of the screen mostly the bottom left corner but I'm finding out this is a known nano IPS issue apparently. I find it astounding that PC displays have these different stupid compromises.
@@mushieslushie Could be you just got a bad panel in your unit. Mine is super bright and the colors are extremely vivid. Try lowering your black stabilizer to about 35 and raising your colors by about 10 each. This made everything on my monitor pop without bleeding.
At $499 that is a great deal - that makes it similarly priced to its closest competitor, the Asus MG279Q, but with a faster panel and that g-sync compatibility sticker. Hopefully the price in Europe won't be too inflated.
Finally a tech RUclipsr plugs Blur Busters. I have been waiting for this moment for the better part of 6 years! Those guys are literal genius's of response time and monitor/video manipulation.
Bought this after reading alot of reviews, and since I only have had TN-panels before I was a bit worried for ghosting and input lag compared to my older 144hz TN. But this monitor is great. Excellent colors, fast response time (I play on Fast-setting). I have played both RTS games and Fps-games (Battlefield, CS GO), and I dont notice any type of lagging. Strongly recommend this monitor!

I thot input latency was depended on the amount of frames you were getting. Like concoles 18ms because 60fps and pc depending on how many fps u were getting

Thanks Linus ! My LG just came in today and I am literally blown away and surprised how good it is compared to my dinosaur 60hz Dell. The Backlight bleed is basically non existent ! The colors were extremely comparable to my old Spyder 3 calibrated Dell. Very satisfied for the price and the quality of the monitor !!
I own the Asus pg279q. I've owned it almost a year. It's a great monitor but it has it's own issues. 1440p is awesome, wont go back to 1080p. 144hz is fantastic. Gsync is even better, everything is smooth. However, the panel is NOT IPS. It is an AU Optronics AHVA panel. Acer uses it as well. The colors are poor and out of the box its terrible. My 2013 dell ultrasharp was better looking than the pg279q. I also currently have 1 stuck red pixel. Noticed it 4 weeks ago. Backlight bleed, ips glow? Meh, non issue. My ultrasharp had it too. I will probably go switch my monitor out for this new LG panel if reviews are good. I am very disappointed they removed the gsync module and the cheesed "1ms" response time. I believe the panel is still a 3-4ms response time as a chinese reviewer found out. Do I reccomend the pg279q? Sure, but its expensive and old tech. Dell made a good 27", 1440p, 144hz, gsync panel for $400. If reviews are good I'd suggest this lg panel since lg makes good stuff.
Tbh, so does this lg panel. It's a "1ms" panel in a very specific situation and you will not use it in that configuration. The pg279q also has an extreme overdrive function and it makes it a lot faster but there is overshoot. Which is worse than a slight ghost. Not to mention at 144hz+ you dont even see it.

These are everywhere now, ordered a similar one today of only £400! monitor tech has become glorious recently and makes up for the stagnant GPU progress.
Definitely noticed the pixel overdrive on the 27GL850 when on the Fastest setting, during gaming or even when scrolling a webpage. I still go with Faster (guessing it's 5ms). Good to know great minds think alike! Like you said, I got it for the 144Hz, formidable resolution, midrange 27" size and G sync "support." I chose not to go for 4k due to both price and resulting drop in performance when trying to game at native resolution (I've got it paired with an RTX 2060 Super). With it being a year old now, I paid just over 300 USD for it. Disappointed about the lack of HDR, but I appreciate the clarification that we haven't mastered it quite that well yet. Been waiting for a no compromises monitor like this. Seems like there are a few things that need ironed out before I drop the cash though. Maybe they'll sort it out in the next iteration. I have the Dell S2716DG which is 1440p, 144hz, 1ms, with a G-Sync module. It's really great but doesn't have HDR and is just a TN panel.
i have the 2018 lg 32gk850G, it is 1440p, 32 inch (which i really prefer), 165 hz, but VA, i love this monitor to death tbh. shame you guys haven't covered it, seems like a solid choice. the gsync is fully working too. i always ran it on "fast", i think it has 5ms but i'm content with that.

Rostislav Hašek mine isnt from samsung, its from lg, the latest pixel reponsetime were mentioned in my first comment, its sufficient and VA certainly better than TN overal, i dont play competetive, so i dont need 1ms. I play like rise of the tomb raider and like breath of the wild, gta, and for that VA is superior to TN every bit, ips has better colors and stuff but is far more expensive to get at high refresh and only recently available. I have no idea what you mean but im pretty sure that VA has been the choice of gamers for the past couple years. Every review i looked up for tn va ips stated that they all have flaws but VA now is the way to get a happy medium. Best of both worlds with also certain flaws.

i'm in the market for a new monitor, and all the decent ones i can find are 400+ anyways, so i actually got a little excited about new tech coming out near the same price point
He's speculating that it might be so and it does seem to make sense. But at the same time he also shows that it clearly handles motion better than the 5ms IPS panel and even the 1ms TN panel on the comparative analysis, with the panel set at "fast" mode (no ghosting as in the 5ms IPS panel or corona as in the 1ms TN panel). This would indicate that it is indeed faster than the 5ms IPS panel and even the 1ms TN panel considering the aggressive overdrive employed on the TN panel, but this does apparently for some reason not translate into more details than on these other two panels - only less motion artefacts. Perhaps there is some other undetermined factor involved here that gives the same amount of blur on three panels of different inherent responsiveness?

The thing is you can get the LG-MK600M which uses the same panel, without the dreadful 1ms overshoot Faster option, no display port , same performance, also VESA mount, same color accuracy for half price.
I would love to see a bit more deep testing on this monitor. If its as good as you think it is it would be nice to finally see a quality gaming monitor under $700-1000
Just to add to this review. I got this monitor after watching this review. With a little bit of tweeking, this monitor looks bloody amazing. I lowered the green a good bit and lowered the blue a little bit. That fixed the colours. I had to lower the contrast a little bit because file explorer folders were orange and distorted. Also i had to lower the black enhancer a lot to get rid of the grey film over everything. After that this monitor is amazing looking as a basic display. I get the wow factor every time i use it. It looks beautiful. The colours are so vibrant and strong. The picture is so sharp and detailed. It seriously boosts the visual quality of games. Also if you get up real close and look, you can't see the pixel lines. The bad sides? There are a few. Like linus mentioned the fastest setting is unusable because of all the ghosting. Also the hdr is seriously broken. All it does is break the colours. Everything is badly green. It also cranks the contrast up to the point everything is horrible and distorted looking. So that's unusable as well. The g sync doesn't work as well as it did with my previous monitor. With certain games i still get tearing. I have to combine g sync with adaptive vsync in some cases to get the best results. Also the pannel i got has hotspots on the bottom left and right corners. It only shows during dark games and scenes but it is annoying. To counteract and reduce it, i set the monitor hight up higher. It reduces the severity if you're not looking down at it.
@@BuddhaMata No problem. Sorry for the delay. First off, set game mode to gamer mode. Gamma to setting 2. black stabalizer down to 10. Rgb to red 53, green 42, blue 60. Set six colour saturation levels to 60 and that's about it. It looks really good at those settings.

How about the backlight bleed? I tried getting IPS 144 hz but the backlight bleed was horrible on all the models I tried. So I settled for my 144hz TN. Can't wait for OLED to hit gaming monitors once they figure out the screen burnin problem lmao
@@norfolknwhey4787 Yeah it's an incredible tech, I read that they are trying to improve the life of the pixels so that they last much longer before degrading. I'd buy one that would last me 3-4 years. But I bet some other tech would come out before OLED reaches any form of longevity on the pixels.
No need for 240 hz for normal use or even gaming. 144 hz is way more than necessary and 240 hz is almost like placebo unless you have a very specific need for such a high refresh rate
Joe A. I don’t know why people like you even comment this shit anymore. Studies have shown, and even LMG has made a video on the subject, that people play better the higher the refresh rate increases. Now obviously correlation =/ causation but the trend has been shown via multiple sources. If you care, if you have the money, and you feel you want it, always go for the highest refresh rate you can get. There’s literally no downside unless you’re using the monitor for professional level video production or content creation of other sorts besides gaming.

I wish some of the reviewers on RUclips would start revealing how manufacturers quality control is declining and how bad it has become. Plus how poor the support is when attempting to resolve these problems for individual purchasers. Apple, Microsoft and many others are selling defective products that are clearly not tested properly when the leave the factory. This can result in a nightmare scenario for people how have saved up their hard earned cash to buy sub standard products that you and many other reviewers have rated highly.
Please make a difference and shame these manufacturers into providing a better service. For instance, if you look at the support forums you will find that 25%of Microsoft laptops develop hardware faults within the first year.
I am sure many of your subscribers would be so grateful if you could follow up on this suggestion.
I‘ve buyed this monitor 4 weeks ago and got really bad ips glow. Returned it buyed a new one which arrived today. Guess whats going back again...

Funny story, I bought this monitor a couple years ago and resold it almost immediately because of the halo effect and terrible blacks levels created by the HDR. I never even attempted to turn off the HDR and calibrate the OSD. Now, a little older and a little wiser, I just ordered this exact monitor all over again. Thank goodness it's only $300 now rather than the $500 it was at launch. Live and learn.
got mines a few days ago from the pawn shop unused with box for only $250
It's a great display. Make sure to update the firmware though; there's a few quirks around smart energy saving and HTMI compatibility mode; I had to punch through the OSD to update the settings every time I connected with a certain USB-C/HDMI adapter.

I just got the GP model and am disappointed about the brightness on the left side of the screen mostly the bottom left corner but I'm finding out this is a known nano IPS issue apparently. I find it astounding that PC displays have these different stupid compromises.
@@mushieslushie Could be you just got a bad panel in your unit. Mine is super bright and the colors are extremely vivid. Try lowering your black stabilizer to about 35 and raising your colors by about 10 each. This made everything on my monitor pop without bleeding.
At $499 that is a great deal - that makes it similarly priced to its closest competitor, the Asus MG279Q, but with a faster panel and that g-sync compatibility sticker. Hopefully the price in Europe won't be too inflated.

Bought this after reading alot of reviews, and since I only have had TN-panels before I was a bit worried for ghosting and input lag compared to my older 144hz TN.
But this monitor is great. Excellent colors, fast response time (I play on Fast-setting). I have played both RTS games and Fps-games (Battlefield, CS GO), and I dont notice any type of lagging.
Strongly recommend this monitor!

I thot input latency was depended on the amount of frames you were getting. Like concoles 18ms because 60fps and pc depending on how many fps u were getting

Thanks Linus ! My LG just came in today and I am literally blown away and surprised how good it is compared to my dinosaur 60hz Dell. The Backlight bleed is basically non existent ! The colors were extremely comparable to my old Spyder 3 calibrated Dell. Very satisfied for the price and the quality of the monitor !!

This was really brief review, we will need to see its performance at different framerates from PCMonitors and TFTCentral.
I own the Asus pg279q. I've owned it almost a year. It's a great monitor but it has it's own issues. 1440p is awesome, wont go back to 1080p. 144hz is fantastic. Gsync is even better, everything is smooth. However, the panel is NOT IPS. It is an AU Optronics AHVA panel. Acer uses it as well. The colors are poor and out of the box its terrible. My 2013 dell ultrasharp was better looking than the pg279q. I also currently have 1 stuck red pixel. Noticed it 4 weeks ago. Backlight bleed, ips glow? Meh, non issue. My ultrasharp had it too. I will probably go switch my monitor out for this new LG panel if reviews are good. I am very disappointed they removed the gsync module and the cheesed "1ms" response time. I believe the panel is still a 3-4ms response time as a chinese reviewer found out. Do I reccomend the pg279q? Sure, but its expensive and old tech. Dell made a good 27", 1440p, 144hz, gsync panel for $400. If reviews are good I'd suggest this lg panel since lg makes good stuff.
Tbh, so does this lg panel. It's a "1ms" panel in a very specific situation and you will not use it in that configuration. The pg279q also has an extreme overdrive function and it makes it a lot faster but there is overshoot. Which is worse than a slight ghost. Not to mention at 144hz+ you dont even see it.

Definitely noticed the pixel overdrive on the 27GL850 when on the Fastest setting, during gaming or even when scrolling a webpage. I still go with Faster (guessing it's 5ms). Good to know great minds think alike!
Like you said, I got it for the 144Hz, formidable resolution, midrange 27" size and G sync "support." I chose not to go for 4k due to both price and resulting drop in performance when trying to game at native resolution (I've got it paired with an RTX 2060 Super).
With it being a year old now, I paid just over 300 USD for it. Disappointed about the lack of HDR, but I appreciate the clarification that we haven't mastered it quite that well yet. Thanks for the review!

Been waiting for a no compromises monitor like this. Seems like there are a few things that need ironed out before I drop the cash though. Maybe they'll sort it out in the next iteration. I have the Dell S2716DG which is 1440p, 144hz, 1ms, with a G-Sync module. It's really great but doesn't have HDR and is just a TN panel.

i have the 2018 lg 32gk850G, it is 1440p, 32 inch (which i really prefer), 165 hz, but VA, i love this monitor to death tbh. shame you guys haven't covered it, seems like a solid choice. the gsync is fully working too. i always ran it on "fast", i think it has 5ms but i'm content with that.

Rostislav Hašek mine isnt from samsung, its from lg, the latest pixel reponsetime were mentioned in my first comment, its sufficient and VA certainly better than TN overal, i dont play competetive, so i dont need 1ms. I play like rise of the tomb raider and like breath of the wild, gta, and for that VA is superior to TN every bit, ips has better colors and stuff but is far more expensive to get at high refresh and only recently available. I have no idea what you mean but im pretty sure that VA has been the choice of gamers for the past couple years. Every review i looked up for tn va ips stated that they all have flaws but VA now is the way to get a happy medium. Best of both worlds with also certain flaws.

It's a pretty pointless monitor. The human eye can't see more than 90fps, that's why VR headsets are 90hz.
If only Amazon and all other stores had it in stock, instead it still has a delivery date that keeps on being pushed back.

HDR peal brightness is actually a lot higher than 350 nit though, peak at around 390 nid - I think it's actually qualified for HDR400

He's speculating that it might be so and it does seem to make sense. But at the same time he also shows that it clearly handles motion better than the 5ms IPS panel and even the 1ms TN panel on the comparative analysis, with the panel set at "fast" mode (no ghosting as in the 5ms IPS panel or corona as in the 1ms TN panel). This would indicate that it is indeed faster than the 5ms IPS panel and even the 1ms TN panel considering the aggressive overdrive employed on the TN panel, but this does apparently for some reason not translate into more details than on these other two panels - only less motion artefacts. Perhaps there is some other undetermined factor involved here that gives the same amount of blur on three panels of different inherent responsiveness?
Yep the real rt is around 4-5ms, already way better than most older ips monitor (6-8ms).
imo 500$ pricing for this is pretty attractive.

The thing is you can get the LG-MK600M which uses the same panel, without the dreadful 1ms overshoot Faster option, no display port , same performance, also VESA mount, same color accuracy for half price.
I would love to see a bit more deep testing on this monitor. If its as good as you think it is it would be nice to finally see a quality gaming monitor under $700-1000

Just to add to this review. I got this monitor after watching this review. With a little bit of tweeking, this monitor looks bloody amazing. I lowered the green a good bit and lowered the blue a little bit. That fixed the colours. I had to lower the contrast a little bit because file explorer folders were orange and distorted. Also i had to lower the black enhancer a lot to get rid of the grey film over everything. After that this monitor is amazing looking as a basic display. I get the wow factor every time i use it. It looks beautiful. The colours are so vibrant and strong. The picture is so sharp and detailed. It seriously boosts the visual quality of games. Also if you get up real close and look, you can't see the pixel lines.
The bad sides? There are a few. Like linus mentioned the fastest setting is unusable because of all the ghosting. Also the hdr is seriously broken. All it does is break the colours. Everything is badly green. It also cranks the contrast up to the point everything is horrible and distorted looking. So that's unusable as well. The g sync doesn't work as well as it did with my previous monitor. With certain games i still get tearing. I have to combine g sync with adaptive vsync in some cases to get the best results. Also the pannel i got has hotspots on the bottom left and right corners. It only shows during dark games and scenes but it is annoying. To counteract and reduce it, i set the monitor hight up higher. It reduces the severity if you're not looking down at it.

@@BuddhaMata No problem. Sorry for the delay. First off, set game mode to gamer mode. Gamma to setting 2. black stabalizer down to 10. Rgb to red 53, green 42, blue 60. Set six colour saturation levels to 60 and that's about it. It looks really good at those settings.

How about the backlight bleed? I tried getting IPS 144 hz but the backlight bleed was horrible on all the models I tried. So I settled for my 144hz TN. Can't wait for OLED to hit gaming monitors once they figure out the screen burnin problem lmao
Joseph Ostrand they won’t. The burn-in is a side-effect of the technology. OLED would be incredible for HDR content though.
@@norfolknwhey4787 Yeah it's an incredible tech, I read that they are trying to improve the life of the pixels so that they last much longer before degrading. I'd buy one that would last me 3-4 years. But I bet some other tech would come out before OLED reaches any form of longevity on the pixels.

No need for 240 hz for normal use or even gaming. 144 hz is way more than necessary and 240 hz is almost like placebo unless you have a very specific need for such a high refresh rate
Joe A. I don’t know why people like you even comment this shit anymore. Studies have shown, and even LMG has made a video on the subject, that people play better the higher the refresh rate increases. Now obviously correlation =/ causation but the trend has been shown via multiple sources.
If you care, if you have the money, and you feel you want it, always go for the highest refresh rate you can get. There’s literally no downside unless you’re using the monitor for professional level video production or content creation of other sorts besides gaming.
