The hell of the thing is that this heavily mirrors a scene in Battlestar Galactica where Commander William Adama receives a surprise promotion to Rear Admiral from President Laura Roslin. Like Sharon, he'd given up on getting that promotion a long time ago. President Roslin was ALSO played by Mary McDonnell except in that case she was GIVING the surprise promotion instead of receiving it.

Mason kept his word.....remember the deal he said he would do. If he got Assistant Chief she would keep Major Crimes and if she became Assistant Chief she would let him keep Criminal Intel.
Sharon should have gotten that promotion years ago-Mason did the right thing.
