I think it waz all tongue in cheek friendly rivalry.. Mick and John were friends.. Paul and Keith were... Its all for publicity but they did compete against each other that was only natural between the two biggest bands but there was no disdain between the two
Brian Jones played in Yellow submarine and You know my name, look up the number, where he played saxofone. Lennon and Richards had few trips with LSD together, Jones and Harrsion were friends and Harrison introduced sitar to Brian. And Ringo and Charlie were friends too.
I don't think there was a big rivalry. John seems to be the only one who really had beef, but who knows. And tbf about Paul, the Stones really did start off as a Blues cover band.
Well, let's put it in this way: if there was a rivalry they would try to compete with each other ... like the Beatles did with the Beach Boys (Beatles made Rubber Soul, Brian Wilson wanted to top it up with Animal Sound, then the Beatles did Sgt.Pepper. and so Brian did Smile etc.) but what I can say about the Rolling Stones is that they copied the Beatles but the Beatles didn't copy the Stones.
In the end, if I look at both of the bands entire catalogue, the Stones just managed to hit my musical nerve more often. I know that the Beatles revolutionized the musical landscape more but in the end it's about wether a song hits you where it matters. And the Stones (for me) have them beat hands down. I like my music kind of dark, with a rough edge. That's probably why I always preferred Lennon's songs over McCartney's. Anyway, for me, it's the Stones. Gimme Shelter to me says it all, it's the tombstone of the hippy age, a dark analysis of what had been and what will come. Also: I believe this was the first band feud solely created by the press. They hung around together and performed on eachothers albums even. I never believed there was any real beef between em.
I liked the Beatles, and the Stones, as well,...however, I agree, "The Beatles," sort of went down Hill with, "Srgt. Pepper," after all, the Original Paul was Replaced with "Billy."
Very cool. I grew up buying their albums and it seemed quite obvious to me that the Stones were mocking the Beatles. Particularly Let it Be and Let it Bleed….. oh, fur sure!🤣
Bottom line. Beatles created 13 albums & 36 singles in 7 yrs. 20 #1 singles (some double A’s) Stones produced 25 albums in 55 yrs. 8 #1 singles If there were any rivalry, it wasn’t from The Beatles as they didn’t have time for such nonsense. June 25, 1967 The Beatles globally released All You Need is Love. You see Mick Jagger, sitting quietly, maybe in awe or just feeling lucky to be there at all. That answers the question.

What do you reckon then... Was the rivalry genuine or a media/fan construct? 💭

What's more, John performed at "The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus" in 1968.
John Lennon was rough but always spoke the truth

It wasn't a rivalry like Oasis and Blur.

Best example for me is Let it Be and Let it Bleed🧐

When its all over and civilization is a pile of ashes, only Beatles and Stones will remain.
"roll a stoney" I missed that for so many years, top show dude

I love your videos but need to ask... Why mongoose.. Why did you choose that name?
I guess I wanted it to be memorable - seems to have worked right?!
"And Your Bird Can Sing" - What lead singer had a girlfriend who sang?
It was like Nirvana and pearl jam. 😅
Let it be… Let it bleed…. Yup, there was rivalry, and great entertainment 🙂
Of course the rivalry was constructed. How could The Beatles compete against the most overrated band in history?
