Watercolour Painting: Captivating Demonstration of Wet on Wet Techniques - PART 3
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 июл 2024
- Learn how to paint wet on wet using watercolour paints. In this easy watercolour painting tutorial, the 3rd in my How to paint Watercolour: basics for beginners series, I start with an outline landscape drawing. The landscape drawing is done on 300lb watercolour paper and is drawn with a soft pencil to ensure no channels are created. There would be if it is drawn with a hard pencil. After wetting the paper I show how to paint the first layer of the painting using the wet on wet technique. Once the first layer is dry I work wet on dry but demonstrate how to add paint to an already wet area. I
I explain how to paint branches and twigs using the other end of the brush and how to get the tonal range of the painting working correctly. The watercolor painting tutorial is aimed at beginners, and those wishing to develop their technique of watercolour painting.

"And don't fiddle with it!"
Best bit of knowledge ever!
Thank you ...
This is my new mantra for life 😊
Wonderful! Yes, it certainly works in all walks of life. Cheers
I think you have one of the best explanation on how to use watercolor. You've given me very useful tips, thank you.
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed the video. Paul
Over the last few weeks, I have known "something" was missing in my search for absolute beginner watercolor tutorials. It was not until I watched your first 2 videos that I figured out what’s been missing: Actual instruction about how to paint with watercolor. The rest were just watercolor techniques which didn't cover the basic understanding. Thank you.
Thank you, much appreciated. Cheers
Thank you! This is just what I needed! "Don't fiddle" is great advice.
Glad you liked the video and the advice. Cheers
Paul.. you have given me painting life.. i started at the first tutorial and i am not so intimidated. ..THANK YOU
That's brilliant, good luck with your painting.
watching you has encouraged me to try Watercolour I always think it is very difficult.
It does have a mind f its own, but that is half the fun. Paul

You’ve really helped me identify the mistakes I’ve been making. I’ve been using too much paint or water, overworking my paper, fussing. I’m inspired! Finally, someone who shows how to hold a brush for different effects and shows colour mixing so I can see the ratio of water and paint. Thank you!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Too much fiddling/fussing can be the death of a watercolour painting. Cheers
Yes, this is one of the best explanation on how to use watercolor! Thank you so much!
You are very welcome
You're definitely the best when it comes to showing the basics of watercolour painting! I like how you say what paint colours you are using and how to hold the brushes for different effects. I've learnt a lot. Thank you so much!
My pleasure 😊
Love this series of tutorials. Thank you so much
You are so welcome!
Excellent and thanks for the tip on on using the brush handle!
Aye, the brush handle can be just as important as the brush itself. Glad you enjoyed the video, perhaps you might check out my brand new channel at ruclips.net/user/artistinschoolcouk and subscribe if you like the video. There will be more there soon. Thanks Paul

You're welcome!
Really nice..,learn new thing by watching this vedeo....
Thanks for watching
Thank you
You're welcome
What you made look so easy turned out a beautiful rendered landscape. The most significant lesson I will learn is not to "fiddle' with it. I will need to get out of the habit of not overworking the medium and composition, as I have with oil painting.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Fiddling can be a curse!
Tooo good sir
Cheers
This was awesome, thank you!

Very nice explain 👏👏
What is 'Skeen Ton'?
Skin tone for potret drawing
Other You Tubers showing how to do watercolour painting stop and start their videos, which (being a total novice) made me think that you just kept going and not wait for layers to dry! You explain very clearly and what's supposed to be happening. I like dont fiddle haha. I won't anymore!
You are so welcome!
great
Thanks
Watercolor composition is the hardest thing for me but after watching your explanation... I'm gonna give it some good try✨🤍Thank You so muchh🥺❤️
Good luck with your painting. Cheers
Your tutorials are THE most helpful ones I've come across and have proved to be quite useful. Would you mind answering a question? With watercolors, what's the difference between "blocking in" and an under painting? They both seem to accomplish the same thing. I'm beginning to think, *typically*, watercolor paintings don't require an under painting. Thanks for your help!
Watercolour is very flexible, 'blocking in' refers to filling in shapes within the painting, which could be 'underpainting' for further layers of paint. So they can, effectively be the same thing. Whether your painting requires underpainting really depends on the effects you are trying to create. Try things out and see what methods you prefer. Regards Paul
this guy is so wholesome
Cheers
Beautiful! Gives me inspiration to paint again. Thank you! Is this one for sale? haha
That's great, good luck with your painting. Cheers Paul
Great video!!!👏👏👏
Sending lots of love from Pakistan:)❣️
Sir I cannot get this kinda wet on wet effect. Could you suggest the right type of sheet? I’m using canson water colour sheet ; the issue is that it quickly dries water. Lastly, how can we practice this on our own? Should we pause the video and practice it alongside you or should we use these tips and keep a promoted picture in front of us to replicate this drawing / painting?
Being an artist is about being creative, solving problems, finding solutions. That's what you have to do. It may be it's too hot therefore the water dries too quickly, I don't know you'll have to solve that . As regards the video what works best for you? Cheers from England
Very good, I'm tempted to have a go now, tried before but fiddled too much and too impatient to let it dry between layers. thank you
You can do it! But it's true - don't fiddle!
@@PaulPriestleyart I've learned that myself the last few nights I've sat down to paint. I'm so glad you validated that for me. Slow and steady. Patience for the drying... do you ever use a fan to speed it up? Last night I just started other paintings while the last one was drying...
Can u tell me what watercolours and brush i should buy to start painting?
Like the one u have.
My paints are from Winsor Newton, this link might help if you are in the UK www.whsmith.co.uk/products/winsor-and-newton-cotman-watercolour-sketchers-pocket-box-paint/5012572005784.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAuvOPBhDXARIsAKzLQ8G0iUzx01z3GQHYsKWiJ8FoUeSSZCyBrCo37BTE13RvT_H3ZQnhNi0aAjQQEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Brilliant! Which paintbrush are you using? Thanks again!
It's a number 12 round synthetic brush
@@PaulPriestleyart Thanks Paul!
paul sir can u do some of the gouache landscape painting tutorial
I'll add it to my list. Cheers Paul
Hope you make more of these soon... 🥺
They are on the list
Paul Priestley thank you🤩 I’m so excited, I look forward to the next lesson! Thank you!
Please can you explain what you do to stretch your paper. Many thanks.
Soak a piece of watercolour paper and place it flat on a board. Use brown paper tape and stick this around the edges of the paper. Leave to dry naturally and it should dry nice an tight. Cheers
Wonderful video. I can't believe how fast you are. I am usually pretty fast myself. I have seen other people work so slow.
It takes them days to finish a small picture. I love your loose style!!! Thank you.
Life's too short to spend ages on one picture when you could paint more. Cheers Paul
@@PaulPriestleyart how have things been for you in COVID? I hope going well, painting a lot. Your fans would love more of your wisdom when you're ready!
👍🏽
Cheers
