  • Learn how to paint wet on wet using watercolour paints. In this easy watercolour painting tutorial, the 3rd in my How to paint Watercolour: basics for beginners series, I start with an outline landscape drawing. The landscape drawing is done on 300lb watercolour paper and is drawn with a soft pencil to ensure no channels are created. There would be if it is drawn with a hard pencil. After wetting the paper I show how to paint the first layer of the painting using the wet on wet technique. Once the first layer is dry I work wet on dry but demonstrate how to add paint to an already wet area. I
    I explain how to paint branches and twigs using the other end of the brush and how to get the tonal range of the painting working correctly. The watercolor painting tutorial is aimed at beginners, and those wishing to develop their technique of watercolour painting.

    Over the last few weeks, I have known "something" was missing in my search for absolute beginner watercolor tutorials. It was not until I watched your first 2 videos that I figured out what’s been missing: Actual instruction about how to paint with watercolor. The rest were just watercolor techniques which didn't cover the basic understanding. Thank you.

    You’ve really helped me identify the mistakes I’ve been making. I’ve been using too much paint or water, overworking my paper, fussing. I’m inspired! Finally, someone who shows how to hold a brush for different effects and shows colour mixing so I can see the ratio of water and paint. Thank you!

    Your tutorials are THE most helpful ones I've come across and have proved to be quite useful. Would you mind answering a question? With watercolors, what's the difference between "blocking in" and an under painting? They both seem to accomplish the same thing. I'm beginning to think, *typically*, watercolor paintings don't require an under painting. Thanks for your help!

    • @PaulPriestleyart
      @PaulPriestleyart  7 лет назад

      Watercolour is very flexible, 'blocking in' refers to filling in shapes within the painting, which could be 'underpainting' for further layers of paint. So they can, effectively be the same thing. Whether your painting requires underpainting really depends on the effects you are trying to create. Try things out and see what methods you prefer. Regards Paul

    Sir I cannot get this kinda wet on wet effect. Could you suggest the right type of sheet? I’m using canson water colour sheet ; the issue is that it quickly dries water.
