Without exaggeration, Ren really is a musical genius. Rapper, singer, guitarist, pianist, and produces his own beats. Ren is genuinely next level.
The homey is Samuel Perry Falvey, he's a homey and Ren's co-director for a whole bunch of videos. Ren generally puts the lyrics pinned in the comments, they're better than yt captions.

Ren is from Wales; lived on/off in Brighton in England, and recently in Canada for treatments he needed for his illness(s). You’ll find that Ren has no genre; he’s a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, makes all his own beats and is an independent artist. His ‘story’ is fascinating and there is a ton of his background info on his channel. His ‘Sick Boi’ album released at No. 1 in UK last October.. and he’s released several new songs since then. The guy driving the car is his friend, Samuel Perry-Falvey, who does the majority of his videography - for which they’ve won several awards this past year. Glad you’re checking out some of his music - it’s all great. Also, please consider Ren’s duets with Sam Tompkins, Chincilla and Eden.. as well as Ren with his band, The Big Push!! It’s a VERY BIG Rabbit Hole!!
Well almost all his beats. He purchased a few. He is having issues with the beat maker for "sick boi" named Kujo. Ren purchased it and the beat maker used some section of a sample and didn't get permission. So Ren is getting the problems right now.
@@kellyt5341 I’ve seen info on that issue… I knew he purchased some ‘original music segments’ - but didn’t know he also used/purchased other’s beats. Guess it’s all quite complicated - and of course when $$ are concerned - it can get pretty cut-throat!

Just for your info, Ren often does both a studio version and an acoustic live version of his songs. GENESIS, TROUBLES, ANIMAL FLOW, MURDERER all have 2 versions...and they have very different vibes.

Need to start with hi ren
@johnnybtw123 - I disagree strongly that those are his strongest beats. If it's rap you're after, I'd recommend, 'The Hunger', 'Illest of our Time', 'Sick Boi' and 'Sick Boi part 2', 'Losing It' and 'Seven Sins'.. Though 'Genesis' is good too. Particularly the live acoustic version.
Ren does his own production btw and if you're not sure what a particular sound is, it's almost definitely Ren. He scats, beatboxes brilliantly and does his own background vocals and vocalisations. He also plays about a dozen instruments well. Half of them ridiculously well! All self-taught! He raps like a rap god but wait until you hear him sing! :) He directs most of his own videos and many are recorded live, in a single take! He's known as something of a master of the live, one take! His performance skills are first-class and his stage presence is palpable. His songwriting is world-class! Especially his lyricism. He's a poet really and a bloody great poet at that! Did i mention that he does it in every genre too?!
Don't just stick to his rap and hip-hop stuff. You'll be missing out badly otherwise!
Ren's a unique artist. A musical genius! A once in a generation talent! Definitely react to more Ren! You won't be disappointed. You WILL be surprised... constantly! :)
Subtitles are almost always wrong for ren. You will get used to the accent eventually.

Here is some brief information about Ren:
Ren Eryn Gill was born and grew up in Wales in 1990. Later he moved to Brighton where he did a lot of busking. He studied music performance at Bath Spa University. In 2009 he became seriously ill and had difficulty attending lectures. In 2010, he was signed to Sony Records. However, as his health continued to deteriorate, he had to terminate the contract.
Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led to him suffering from psychosis. It was not until seven years later that a doctor in Belgium finally diagnosed him with autoimmunity and Lyme disease, which led to brain, organ and joint damage as well as PTSD. After stem cell therapy in the United States, his health improved considerably. However, he continues to suffer greatly from his illnesses. For over a year now he is undergoing treatment in Canada.

The guy driving is Samuel Perry-Falvey, Ren's mate and the director of photography for lots of his music videos, most notably the incredible one take videos for the Tales of Jenny and Screech and Money Game parts 1 and 3. Yes, Ren made this beat. He said the produced the whole thing and filmed the video in the space of a week when he split from his music label. You definitely have to see Hi Ren. It won't feel like 9 minutes as Ren is so good at taking unexpected turns and holding your attention.

I enjoyed this a lot! You've got positive vibes, a great smile, and an open musical mind. Yes to whatever everyone else suggests, because ... well, Ren. But if you want to hear his actual singing chops, please think about reacting to, "Back on 74/Message In A Bottle Retake." Whatever you're thinking about Ren's style/genre/vocal abilities, you didn't see this one coming. Lol. Of course, you generally don't see them coming. When you're listening to new Ren, just drop any expectations at the door.
Here are a couple of general tips about Ren:
1) Live or studio version when both are available? Live. Always live. Although sometimes you need to hear both, because they are pretty different. One exception is Money Game 2 ... the official lyrics video, which might as well be a full blown music video.
2) Retake = Cover w/a Ren twist.
3) Mash-up: Whole or fragments of multiple songs, mostly other peoples', but usually containing some piece that may be wholly him to help connect the songs. (My fav is him and The Big Push doing, "I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop." The busking session where he's wearing the red suspenders.)
4. His musical influences run the gamut ... yes, Nat King Cole, The Police, Bob Marley, Elvis, Tina Turner, Beastie Boys, and on and on. A lot of his stuff has a heavy Jamaican influence you can definitely hear.
Enough for now. Great job ... you've got a new sub. I'm excited for your Ren journey!
One last tip ... there are a few Renegades that slip the leash from fans to fanatics. While we are mostly a very nice bunch, if anyone gets stupid because you don't like something they love or you missed the deepest meaning of a song ... block them and move on. 😉

Ren is a brilliant guitar and piano player, keep digging you’ll find out.
He thought he was dying...so he wanted to experience EVERYTHING about life in the time left he thought he had...and that included doing drugs of all kinds.
In his chapters 1-8 he said in his first yr of college he did a mix and match of party drugs. When his illness kicked off after one of those party nights he thought he got spiked with bad drugs. From that point on he just went down hill with the lymes disease and was looking to get better. Except for weed and big pharma drugs I was under the impression he didn't take any more. But recently he was talking about mushrooms and possibly experimenting with micro doses, so who knows.

Loved this reaction! Your energy and comments were on point. The subtitles on his videos are usually trash. However, he often pins the lyrics in the first comment under the video, or you can pull them up online. Genesis would be a good one to listen to. I think it's fine to get familiar with him before tackling Hi Ren, Jenny and Screech, and the Money Game trilogy, although those are the ones fans usually clamor for right away. Hi Ren is how most fans found him.

I'm a BIG fan of Murderer acoustic..abd the Troybles acoustic will give you his health history in one song in rap.
@@johnnybtw123Ren was bitten by a TIC and got the Lyme disease before he was 20 y.o and was very ill. But the doctors didn't knew what was wrong with him. So he was Misdiagnosed for like 10 years and he thought he was going to die. The doctors was giving him a lot of wrong medicine witch caused damage to his brain and body. He spent months and months in bed and could barely stand up, he couldn't eat anything because he throw up blood, food and everything. He became very scinny and pale and had to live with his mother because he was so weak. He didn't have money for a treatment but a stamcell doctor heard about it and offered Ren a free stamcell treatment and he became a lot better and started busking in Brighton with his band The Big Push. After that he went to Canada for several years for more treatment. Long story short, Ren is 34 y.o now, still in treatment, maybe for the rest of his life. Now he's back on home soil Brighton UK 🇬🇧 and will reales some new stuff. My favourite song of Ren is LOSING IT. His flows and syllables are so crazy good. The best hip hop/rapper I've ever heard in my entire life. 👍

When you mentioned the therapeutic effect of music and playing piano, my first thought was that you should react to Ren's piano piece, MacKay, a tribute to one of his best friends who passed away. Nope, this only a small part of what Ren's about. When people first encounter Ren they try to put him in a box... Two or three songs in and they stop trying to do that, lol. Ren does it ALL! Does it all brilliantly, does it in every genre and doesn't miss! :)

@@johnnybtw123 Genesis & Murderer are safe bets and are all made and produced by Ren. Seven Sins and Wicked Ways are 2 of my faves. They are all different tho and it depends on the kind of sonics someone likes. His production, mixing and mastering are top level. You probably won't get his a lot of his references and doubles, Easter eggs until you know him more. 😊
For beats, some of my faves are "The Hunger", "Illest of Our Time", "Seven Sins", "Down On The Beat" -- and for something different, the acapella "Loco". His older stuff is great too -- try "Humble", "Ready For You", "Hold On". Subscribing for more!

Ren is going to blow your mind. His tracks Genesis, Seven Sins and Losing It are straight rap. Ready for You, Heretic and Jessica are a mix of rap and singing. Chalk Outlines, Crutch and Fred Again are just singing. Hi Ren and the Tales of Jenny and Screech are something entirely different than almost anything you have ever heard, You must tackle Hi Ren at some point regardless of the 9 minutes. I have been listening to him about 1 1/2 years and am well over 100 songs and not a bad one to be found.

All of them have amazing beats. But don't neglect his storytelling. Yes, you absolutely have to do Hi Ren, but Money Game parts 1-3 and The Tale of Jenny and Screech trilogy are must-watch, too. And then there are pure musicality tracks, too, like Back on 74/Message in a Bottle, Fred Again Mashup, Chalk Outlines... In other words, you're in for a wild ride!

If you truly want to go straight into the deep end my suggestion would be the song 'Seven Sins'. It's a lyric video though, so no worries in trying to follow what he says. FYI the first 20 seconds are in Welsh (Ren is from Wales) - it reads like a eulogy, and it's easy enough to find the translation in the comments of the video if you really want the translation.

REN is a mixed bag. If you choose to do another or a couple of Ren Songs. 1. “Hi Ren..” (a must). It’s the introduction to him in a sense. If Rap is what you’re into: “Hunger” and “Castles made of Sand” are my favorite Beats and lyrics are both fire. Singing: “Ren & Sam Tompkins - Earned it mash up” A Reggae vibe: watch “Murderer” and “I Shot the Sheriff . (cover with his band busking. The Big Push.) Rock & Roll: War Pigs Busking. Ren has both an official music video that is fire, and also an acoustic version which, for me, is my favorite of the two. More raw. It'd be cool if you did them both back to back in one reaction and witness how Ren almost completely creates an entirely new song when he does acoustic versions. Same with his song, Murderer.

Try "Lost all Faith" (official Lyric Video) - Some of the meaning may be lost as its quite a deep song but the beat and hook are sound. Ren's lyric video's are also done well.

Yooooo Johnny! Dopest beats? I’d probably go “Illest of our Time” followed by “The Hunger”. But I still strongly recommend “Murderer” the official music video followed by “Murderer” live (maybe as a double feature reaction?) to give you an idea of the talent of this man… first is a singy/rap rendition, then in the live version he sits down with an acoustic guitar and singy/raps a different version of the same song over that (with a cheeky little nod to Compton). It’s epic.
