How many views has this video got because of MGS? From what I remember, Kojima has had constant support from military advisers, basically ensuring everything related to guns, fighting and the like are as accurate as possible. Obviously the fulton in the games is modified to be more fun (rather than a slow ascent, a sudden burst of speed accompanied by a prolonged panic scream is sooo much more satisfying).
+Dara McMahon Plus, this piece of artistic license makes the game fairer on a gameplay mechanic level. If you start Fulton-ing a soldier and another one spots you attaching the Fulton, if it was a slow ascent like in reality, then the second soldier could pop the Fulton Balloon before the first is delivered.
Yeah, it's how we know the rocket punch has just the right amount of force applied to the enemies face as the fist unexpectedly flies slowly right in front of them.
I was the contract logistic support for Lockheed Ontario, CA during the late 80's early 90's when we were doing load increase test at Edward Air force base. We increased the pickup load to 1250lbs. This was to simulate 4 people. We did have a full size crash dummy named "Rugged Ron" that had an EDR in his chest to measure acceleration in 3 axis. The max load experienced at lift off was 9g's, but it was only for a few seconds otherwise you would pass out.
"Fulton first used instrumented dummies as he prepared for a live pickup. He next used a pig, as pigs have nervous systems close to humans. Lifted off the ground, the pig began to spin as it flew through the air at 125 mph (200 km/h). It arrived on board uninjured but in a disoriented state. Once it recovered, it attacked the crew."

I played them, MGS 3 Solid Snake HD, MGS 4, MGS Peace Walker, MGS Revengeance. Yup, it can. the first human pickup was in August 12 1958 by a US Marine, he commented it felt like "a kick in the pants" on the first seconds. It was used until 1992 on both equipment and human cargo, despite the high risk and only one fatal accident happened during it's service time. due to the availability of long-range helicopters and mid-air refueling capability, this system is used less often until 1996, it was no longer used by the USAF.

On one of the last pickups the pilot missed the line. There are cables with razor blades running from wing tip to the Radome, but that wasn't enough, the line was caught in the #3 engine and acted as a giant weed wacker and punched several holes in the side of the airplane. Joe G. Fort Hood, TX
How does the line keep from getting tangled in the props? It's unclear to me how the crew would manage to get the line from the yoke at the nose of the aircraft....
What is that song that starts at 0:34? It was in a educationial TV show I used to watch, and was used to show some green 3d person... That is all I remember.

I'm still confused as to how the lines goes from being attached to only a balloon and the cargo crate, to being spooled inside the cargo hold of the airplane. Do they grab the line with that rod the guy had in his hand when they first cut to the cargo hold?
they actually had 2 winches. secured on the first they released the rope from the front and it would travel under the aircraft to the ramp in back were it was retrieved and connected to winch 2. Ounce secured on #2, #1 was unwound and #2 would then take in all the cable. As an Talon 1 airborne maintenance technician I watched a few of these in the sky over Germany and England 7th SOS (1981-1983). The loadmasters did most of the work. Great crews and great guys to go TDY with.
Yup. Developed by the CIA in the 1950s. And MGS3 isn't the first pop culture usage of it. Thunderball and Green Berets. And Batman used it in The Dark Knight. The first official operation use was two agents sent to examine an abandoned Soviet installation in an ice drift in 1962. Both agents and captured Soviet equipment where Fulton'd out safely. AFSOC stopped maintaining the system in 1996.
The ground video was taken by a Lockheed photographer at Edwards. The orange box you see on top of the package is an EDR (Environmental Data Recorder) it records stress and acceleration. I would download the data from this box after every pickup. The package itself is sand (1250lbs) The aircraft number is 551 and was a Talon II out of Hurlbert AFB, FL, I still have my coin. I have video I shot while on the ground during this time that I will post soon. Joe G. Fort Hood, TX

@@NotTheRealRustyShackleford Do you have a better idea how to catch this balloon without damaging the payload? Many films showed already paratroopers boarding a balloon from above like pirates.
