Unfortunately, you do not report about the scope of the Verbatim drive's functions. Your observations would be helpful, since the spec list at Verbatim's own site is mute on the scope of UHD / 4k read and write capabilities. Can it burn UHD / 4k files from one's camera to a BD disc? Can the drive play such files in real UHD / UK? Does it support the BDXL discs with space over 100gb? Is it picky about which commercial UHD /4k discs it will play or not? Will it support UHD / 4k files in both h.264 and h.265?
On amazon review, some say it cannot read 4k UHD movie discs because it doesn't seem to have software. I am not sure do they mean they don't have 4k UHD movie playback software such as PowerDVD or the driver itself doesn't have software to read 4k UHD movies because apparently those 4k UHD movie discs are encrypted and needs driver software to read. I do have PowerDVD 17 ready to watch 4k UHD movies on my PC, which uses intel integrated GPU (only intel GPU are currently supported for 4k UHD movie discs playback, i read this from PowerDVD spec page). Does anyone here could clarify this?
Sorry for late reply... 1. It surely does not have software. The manufacturer web page clearly states that. 2. I am afraid there were two different models available, both able to read same format of Bluray media, but only the latter actually capable to read original UHD disks. The latter was bit more expensive (100 euro vs 130 euro), they had different EANs and P/N codes, but it was literally impossible to tell. Atm i am considering to buy this drive, but... it will be surprise until i insert original UHD disk (Bladerunner 2049), and after that i will probably have to ehm "persuade" OS to play it properly in WCG, HDR10. Right now i have HDR10 sample videos and it does not work properly anyway.
I was unaware of the longevity of the discs, that is good to know. I was looking into tape drives for long term storage but with 25 years longevity this is a viable option. And cheaper. Knowing my paranoid self I will probably get both just to be sure lol. Currently my storage consists of several duplicates of spinning rust on multiple locations that requires maintenance now and then, and that is not ideal. Burn multiple discs and store offsite, easy and cheap.
Blu ray writers are still expensive and are not included in the laptop or desktop you can buy in stores. At work, they bought a couple of brand new HP desktop, but Bluray writer weren't included,

Hello! Nice promoting but I need to know how can use Bluray playing (for my BD movies) or burn BD/ DVD/ CD in to iMac M1 2021? How to rip CD's to iTunes? In package it comes with USB-A cable and USB-C converter. iMac M1 2021 have only USB-C ports, so with converter (I had H-L DVD writer, tried) they do not accept writer and do not able to working with converter. Later learnt, for this driver must be directly plug to computer, if use converter it not able-to-work. This had USB-C back output, so if we use C to C cable (from any external SSD's cable, like Samsung T7) plug to writer and plug to iMac M1 2021, it will be work? Can be use? Also Macs had only DVD player program, how can use (which program/ software) to watch Bluray disk movies? In package had only-Windows based use-able program/software. Can answer or make another video on using iMac, it will be nice. Thanks!
I burn bd-r all the time. I archive off stuff that does not need frequent access to bd-r. Then the contents of each bd-r are copied to my amazon cloud storage as an encrypted DAR archive split into 2GB segments (this will help reduce recovery costs, no need to download all 25GB just to access a small file). Each BD-R disc also has an ECC recovery file created to help in correcting any data corruption using a great bit of software called dvdisaster. These ECC files are stored in the cloud and in the HDD backups. Thus if a disc is damaged I will have a chance to repair it, avoiding retrieval costs from the cloud as much as possible. I'm using Amazon Glacier for cloud storage. Very very cheap but the downside is the access time is very long, thus I should try the BD-R's first ;) HDD's are used to store working data or data that is archived but will be needed, such as tape captures or recorded TV that is still to be edited. I have 2 NAS units that mirror each other considering that RAID is not a backup, they backup each other. I also use several USB HDD's for various things, usually to offload data from the PC/laptops. Each USB HDD either has a twin backing it up or is backed to the NAS pair. It sounds like a lot of work but it really isnt. All the effort goes into the initial sorting of the data. I did consider LTO tape but considering its cost and my reliance on second hand, heavily used drives I think it would be best to keep with optical. 25GB discs are the cheapest storage cost per gigabyte currently with 3TB internal HDD coming in a close second.
Of course, I do. Sometimes a DVD is just to small and a Blu-ray is a quicker and way more simple way to backup stuff. Or put some materials you want to show others. Not sure if I got a modern enough drive but it looks quite a bit like that. And I believe it can go up to the 100Gbyte standard. Not the 133Gbyte though. Eh. Fun Fact, I bought those M-Disc discs to try. And yeah they work... not sure if they do last 1000 years but... they work fine.
i have made a windows update and now the pc doesent read this driver. I have to reinstall maybe this, but i have not the disc with the installer. Where can i find the file?
@@geekanoids Thanks for the reply Dave, I purchased it to give it a try. The reason I asked about the speed is because lower speeds tend to produce less errors when it comes to burning certain files such as game backups.
I can't seem to find this particular model anywhere. I guess it's a UK exclusive. The US store only has an older USB 3 Type-A model that doesn't specifically state it supports UHD 4K. I really want the Type-C model, but I'm afraid if I order it from the UK store, it'll be region-locked and I won't be able to read anything from it.
For heavy burning (dozens of discs per month) I would definitely not recommend any USB powered slimline burner.
