    I know that Adam stated he feels the USA Custom kit sounds the most full and "woody" of the three kits, but I must beg to differ. To my ears that crown goes to the Broadkaster kit. HUGE tom sound which brings to mind the classic sound of Purple/Sabbath...etc. Absolutely amazing!

    Great job guys! THIS is how you present equipment in a shoot-out! That you guys work this hard to assemble quality videos shows how far you are willing to go to help your customers make an informed decision; I don't see any other shops going to these lengths. Just outstanding stuff; I love it!
    I was surprised at the results today. I went in to this thinking that the USAC or Brooklyn's had this competition nailed down. But it appears that at high volume and big sizes, thin is in! Winner: Broadkaster.
    Finally, good job Barrett! A strong showing for the rookie.

      @@matthewpaluch777 I understand what your saying.These large sized kits definitely drive a rock or big band setting.I will say I wish I would have had my BEBOP Brooklyn kit when I was working small clubs playing country,or blues . I did get a chance to play gospel music at are church and they sounded ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I don't know what it is about these drums, the tunning range is like nothing I have ever experienced from any other kit,and buddy I've own a lot of kits in my day. A mutual friend of ours ( Steve Maxwell said it best) for plyed drums I'll put them up against anything on the market.Those are pretty strong words coming from a man whom can buy, sell, and play the best of the best.Not just because he sells them.!!!

I was so impressed that I added a 13" tom, 18" floor tom, as well as 18", 20", and 24" bass drums, which all came in this year. Late to the party as usual and even if no one is looking at this 2019 post anymore, I saw it today after clicking for an hour. The reason I came upon your video is because I was looking at Gretsch drum kits for pre-beginners (if there is such a kit). I have something to say. First, I am not the greatest or even a great musician but I'm willing to learn. Second, I DO know teaching/training/instruction. I am still a non-music subject educator who LOVES music. From my perspective as an educator/instructor... 1. the sequential planning for presenting the information was a 10, 2. for ANY of your market audiences, this video works, and 3. I knew I wanted a Gretsch but I wasn't sure. After this video? SOLD.

Been playing for decades professionally, even sold my 1980's Gretsch power tom set to afford the Brooklyns. Thank you very much. I really enjoyed watching this. I play a USA Custom(with a 24“*14“ kick btw.) for more than 15 years now and it will always be my number one work horse, especially for recording situations. I recorded a lot of different music from rhythm&blues, funk, hip hop, tv commercials, classic rock, prog rock, even metal with it. You just need to mount the right heads and these drums will do the job 100%. I am going to buy a Renown for live purposes next year. Made that decision after watching your video about the 2k bucs kits. Greets from Germany!

    It's kinda ironic that these huge Bonham style drums, are very similar in size to the big band jazz greats!!
    Just goes to show it's all about the drummer and not the kit!!
    18" bass drums became popular for their portability!!
    Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa played some of the greatest sounding jazz ever on 26" bass drums!!
    In fact when I saw him perform a couple of times close to his death. I'm pretty sure he was using a reconditioned Slingerland kit with a 24" or 26" Bass!!

    • @DG-sf9ei
      @DG-sf9ei 4 года назад +1

      Agreed. Some where along the way jazz drums were marketed soley as bop mini size drums, and that couldn't be further from the foundation of what made Jazz great- Big Band.... monster drums that had superior acoustics and dynamic range for any music. Any of the rock drummer legends as Bonham, Ward etc would've been 1st to admit that.

    All these different options from the big name manufacturers....hmmmm. How many people out there are possibly in the market to buy new professional drum sets? What's a good sales figure for a year for one of the big drum manufacturers? In terms of units? Always curious about that side of it. Another great video. Like the old school rock shuffle! I don't know what it is Gretsch doesn't do it for me. It has that very subtle clang in it that is annoying for me. None of these sounded very good to me.

    I still say that Canopus Ash kit sounds just as big or bigger than either of these.

    The reason why you're having such a hard time tuning a 24-inch bass drum is because you're tuning your heads too tight. These drums are made to sound big deep and low which is the complete opposite of how you're 24 inch kicks sound. Detune the heads and slightly damp in them, tune them just enough to get the wrinkles out of the head.. And the results will be amazing
