The fact that the lord of lightining lived through countless years of torture and abuse explains how he gives up with life after Mario defeats him. I honestly feel bad for the dude
I love how this seems a lot like a documentary, hopefully, the Lord of Lightning returns in another game so we can actually know his story. . .

Imo, I feel like of the four mini kingdoms, I feel like this one had potential to be a large kingdom
The comments from the devs in the official art book suggest that it was supposed to be a full stage, but because they struggled finding a direction to go in (and the dragon itself was a nightmare to build) the level got close to being scrapped altogether.
I wish there were hints scratched on the walls or something
spread throughout the kingdom about the lore
We all love our Mario theories!!! Maybe you can talk about other kingdoms too, maybe the lost kingdom / the moon and theorize about that too.
I loved visiting the Ruined Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey and defeating the lightning dragon as soon you return to Crumbleden the lightning dragon will say so tired.
Cloud Kingdom needs analysis too!

My theory is that Rosalina once lived in this kingdom before the events of her storybook. And this was before one of the two possibilities.
I think we should talk about Culex. There's a lot about him that we don't know much about either. He looks like he's not from the Mario universe either. That's because he's from another dimension. But it's still a mystery. There's just something about Culex that we should all talk about.
To be fair, I don't think Bowser just found the blades half buried into the ground and only put his symbol on them.
To my mind, Bowser somehow knew about the lord of lightning and wanted to harness his power to stop/slow down Mario from catching up to him.
But as the dragon is inherently not controlled by bowser, the latter had to find a way to do so.
This implies that Bowser most likely had to fight it to get any control over the dragon.
To me the blades had some sort of enchantment to probably seal down the dragon's consciousness, it looks like the lord of lightning managed to dodge some of bowser's attacks (as we can see with the buried blades and the nearby claw trails) then bowser eventually won the fight and got the lord of lightning with him.
He was likely to be aware of the altar which could explain why there is a blade hiding the spark pylon.
I don't think the blades were there before came around the area otherwise those would have been rusty without bowser's symbol on them.Judging by the length & width of those blades, Bowser seems to be their sole potential wielder.

The Lord of Lightning's color scheme and purple lightning powers seem to be vaguely similar to King Boo and his crown...

I still don’t get why Bowser would put his symbol on the swords
here’s my hc / theory
Bowser had found the Lord Of Lightning and wanted to take him for himself.
So Bowser had told the people of Crumbledon that their city would be attacked soon.
Obviously the people believe him since he was a giant turtle.
Bowser gave them swords, with holes in the top so they can fight against the dragon but also tie him down and kill him.
The dragon had attacked the city and the people did as Bowser told them.
But bowser has betrayed them and freed the dragon. Which made the dragon trust Bowser.
This would explain why we see him (lord of lightning) helping Bowser defeat Mario.
You know how the creator of Warupeach said it would be interesting if Warupeach was the princess of a fallen royal family or something like that ? It would be cool if she would be the princess of the Ruined Kingdom.

Say, that is actually a very interesting theory about the Lord of Lightning within Super Mario Odyssey. I say that the most likely theory was that this dragon was probably the famous one of legends to many people, including possibly the Mushroom Kingdom(?). I do likely believe that this dragon may have started off with good intentions until the people made the altar to worship him as a god and somehow became evil as the ritual went wrong and the people must've realized the error of their ways and attempted to seal him away. Finally, after defeating this boss, the dragon was finally back to his original benevolent intentions when you approach him with one line of dialogue: "So...tired." Because of the dragon's only line of dialogue, that does make me feel sorry for him, because I made a trilogy where Princess Stella and I fought him in the Battle of Crumbleden to rescue Peach ⚔. Perhaps, with the dragon left there after being defeated and his one line of dialogue, it does seem likely that Nintendo is POSSIBLY planning a future Mario game that might finally explain the Ruined Kingdom and The Lord of Lightning in FULL detail. 👍👍👍

What if Crumpletin is a medieval Koopa Kingdom and Bowser knows about the Lord from his ancestry
You think Bowser just added his symbol on the old relics of the Ruined Kingdom ? I don't think that makes much sense.
What if instead, the Koopas used to live here ? Bowser's symbol would be on these relics because it's the symbol of his family.
The Koopa Tribe is a group of conquerers, as we've seen with well... Bowser himself. Bowser's ancestors could have very well tried to enslave that dragon.
But they failed, and were forced to flee as the dragon retaliated and destroyed their Kingdom. With nowhere else to go, they were forced to retreat to the inhospitable land of rocks and lava that is now known as the Koopa Kingdom.
Bowser could have lost his family in that tragedy, explaining why he doesn't have a biological father and was raised by Kamek instead.
It would also explain how Bowser knew about the dragon in the first place. The tale of that tragedy must be something all Koopas know about if it truly happened.
Say, that DOES sound like a VERY interesting theory as well. That could have been possible.

I have a theory for the bowser symbols
(These are the assumptions that build this “theory”)
- The bowser kingdom in the game is above the koopa kingdom and the koopa kingdom looks like a medieval kimgdom like in the movie and also the other stuff built by bowser.
- Bowser is actually part of a koopa kingdom royal family
My theory is this:
The Koopa Kingdom once ruled the ruined kingdom where they tried to control the lightning (I prefer to think it’s because the dragon was violent because there’s no real use for lightning in a medieval kingdom). They learned how to control the dragon with the headpiece that is used in the dragon fight and kept that knowledge to themselves until they lost the kingdom.
I thought of this while playing the game because only bowser knew what the swords served for and how to use them

theory the people that lived in the ruined kingdom was king boo and all the boos because in the Luigi's mansion games king boos gem is the color as the lord of lightnings lightning and what can king boo do with that gem shoot lightning and it's the exact same lightning so before king boo and the other boos died they were humans and king boo was the king of the ruined kingdom and he saw the lord of lightning in the sky and wanted to harness his power so they chained him down and king boo got the power and got it in the shape of the gem but at the last moment the lord of lightning shot a huge lighting shock across the whole kingdom destroying it and killing all the people turning everyone into ghost[boos] but king boo still got his gem and he and the boos all left and that's why we don't see anyone in the ruined kingdom because the boos all left to the mushroom kingdom and found a woods and named it boo woods and that's why bowser would know about the lord of lightning because king boo probably told him because king boo and bowser are friends just a theory but i like it

I have a theory that Wapeach could be tied into the Ruined Kingdom. Her backstory is that she came from a forgotten and destroyed kingdom and Crumbleden fits that description.
