Being ADHD myself I find your "fast" speed quite pleasurable... and, more often than not, I am able to not only follow your thinking but sometimes I'm a half step ahead. Great video, I don’t really use many addons because keeping track of updates is such a PITA. But definitely gonna sign up to this. btw, if you click your mouse wheel on a link, it'll open it up in a new tab on most browsers.
Clicking on stuff with your middle mouse button will open things in a new tab 👍 Sometimes a lot more comfortable than right clicking and open in new tab, or on website where right clicking is prohibited for some reason
One great tip for the Addons Linker - it can manage dependencies between mods. For example, let's say you have an aircraft like the EA-7 Edgley Optica, which depends on the GTN750 (or an airport that depends on some assets pack), you can have the Addons Linker manage this for you. You simply right-click on the aircraft mod, click on dependencies -> set dependencies, and add the GTN750 as a dependency. This way, whenever you enable the aircraft, it will automatically add the GTN750 add-on, so you never find yourself load the flight only to find that you forgot it and need to restart the sim.

I had to giggle when you were trying to find the GA parking @ Gatwick. I've done the same thing and I'll be darned if there is any! There's a Signature there but darned if I can figure out where we're supposed to park. SO I just end up parking in the stands in the middle of the airport (non-jetway parking). There is a payware Gatwick coming out soon but honestly, I'm sticking to the freeware one. It's so detailed for freeware and the developer is constantly updating it (supposedly he works @ Gatwick).
Very informative and valuable video. You briefly mentioned the 152 mod. It now has autopilot but that plane does not GPS. I wish you could show us how to use the NAV mode for the autopilot to use. Thanks again, Overkill.
This is my second attempt at MSFS 2020. Had it working briefly the first time until getting hit with the Mandatory Update. Got through that finally. I thought this video would provide the clarity I lacked the first time, but it must be me. I am having great difficulty making the Community and Addon Linker work and am very, very frustrated with this product overall.
Final post: MSFS 2020 is not a consumer-grade product. When you have to run a script in PowerShell to get over the "Mandatory Update" hurdle, you are in engineering territory. After the "Upgrade" I find that I can no longer manually manipulate the A320 autopilot parameters, AND have lost the functionality of a previously-used Push-Back app due to a missing DLL... I am absolutely done with this product. Too bad. It was briefly spectacular.
Guess I beat you to it. First thing I did before the infamous update 5, I categorized things much as you have them in your file structure. However, I did create another master file with the same sub folders and marked it after 5. That way, I can keep things that have been updated for update 5 in a separate file structure. I also deleted my old community folder after update 5 and started over with those downloads that are proven to work in update 5.
Really enjoy your videos. Having trouble with the Icon A5 upgrade mod. I have followed all the instructions but have found that I can’t get the upgraded plane to display. I have followed the instructions and watched other videos as well. I have unzipped the download and placed the file in the community folder. What might I be doing wrong? Thanks
I really appreciated this video as I too have Addon Linker. Taking your advice I reconfigured all my MSFS2020 Folder/File structure to a similar setup as you demonstrated. Question: Did you have an issue with Navigraph after redoing you structure? My Navigraph is not working now and thought I may need to reinstall the New Navigraph Plugin. However, you being an IT guy might have the solution or Recommendation. Thanks
Off topic comment on CTDs. I never had any until recently so obviously I blamed them on FS2020 like everybody else. I tracked down the errors thrown and it led me to sfc as a possible fix. So I tried it: sfc /scannow. From an admin cmd window. It found errors and repaired them, so far no CTD 🤞🏻. So I checked three other Windows 10 machines, two Pro, one Home. Both Pro machines had the same errors ( not sim machines, BTW ) while the Home version had no errors. So, is the issue related to Windows Pro update problems??? Just a thought.
Hi there! What are your thoughts of our chances of getting FS2020 working again with the next Update? I'm not very tech savvy but am a die hard Flight Simmer since the 2000's . Now very frustrated and sitting idle after the last Update on 27th JUL. Can't get past the FLY stage due to CTD's. Unfortunately, cannot comment on graphics and frame rates etc, when you can't even get into the cockpit without a CTD. Love the Sim before 27th JUL!
I don’t have many addons in my community folder, I’ve tons in my official packages folder due to buying a bunch of addons through the marketplace, does the official folder affect the game the same way the community folder does?
