@@crazyorganist1609 singing legato is one thing. Basically Vocalizing is a whole different story. Anyone can sing legato if not enunciating the text.

She may be opening her mouth less than most singers compared today, but I think it’s the technique that counts. Comparatively, watch at the performances of say Damrau in the past few year-her mouth barely opens and the sound becomes muffled as if it’s trying so hard to escape.
      Just my two cents.

Late period Joan Sutherland’s voice was more unpleasant to listen to than either late period Callas or late period Moffo. I’m not sure why those two are remembered for losing their voices and Sutherland is not.

When was this unpleasant "late period" you are referring to? As to why the other singers are remembered differently, the reason is obvious... their voices were declining in their 30's, LONG before they would be expected to. Sutherland was not losing her voice at that age. She didn't lose it prematurely. But like most sopranos, her voice declined as she grew old, which is the natural course of things.

Are you friggin kidding me? Callas sounds like she’s hoarse with a sore throat on top of that. I know this is your opinion, but it’s asinine.

Sutherland in her sixties could sing anyone under the table.
