Thanks for showing us how to get a nicer gnarly looking trunk in a relatively short time. It looks great, not at all like it's been chopped. The flowing design is lovely too. You're a good teacher! 🙂
It is a matter of compromise. A very big straight trunk with no taper looks weird…Thus I suggested cut back once a year or so and create a new apex…and repeat a year later. You can introduce turns too.
Another good video on shaping and design. I envy your space to grow and thicken the trunks. I really like what you’ve done with this Zelkova. Looking forward to followup videos on this tree. Keep them coming my friend.
Indiana, USA here. Drought took my curly leaf willow starts out. I managed to root 3 small starts and have them in the house. Should I keep them in the house through this winter? I want to make a 3 trunk Bonsai out of them. Thank you for your videos ❣️
I got a zelkova earlier this year it was originally in a shallow pot with such tiny leaves. I've slip potted it into a massive deep pot. Now it's fall what time frame can I work on the roots.
Thank you. I have learned much from your videos. I am in planting zone 7. Looks like you must be in 8 or 9. So my maple may be at risk if I do this kind of work now in middle Tennessee?
Is there a way to encourage a tree to form the breakage you have on the trunk of this one? My childhood home had a large oak tree that looked a lot like that and I would like to simulate that tree.
That is a beautiful tree. The trunk has so much character. In the blink of an eye, it went from shrub to a beautiful bonsai again, amazing.

Thank you for the kind words! Hope you enjoyed watching!
I do like this minimal wiring approach! Also like your snips, are they Felco?
Hi there! I tend to just buy generic brand name tools because I don't take very good care of them!
Nice trunk beautiful bonsai thanks Milton keep up the good work mate thanks
Thank you, I will!
Thanks for your wisdom!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing, very helpful techniques!
Thanks for watching!
Do you have an update to this video? Checking back in after these operations to see the results after growth would be a great format for Shorts
Hello! I filmed this recently, so no update just yet! I will definitely do an update in a few months from now so stay tuned.
Thank you somuch forsharing vidio bonsai👍👍❤️❤️🙏
Do you need to let it grow tall and wild to grow the trunk fast or should you cut it back once per year/every two years?

It amazing to watch the tree transformed.
Thank you for watching!
Mr. Chang, can you get the same result by planting in a large cement mixing tub? Steve.
Sure
Any container would do

You’re the best, God bless Master Chang!!

Probably a good idea to keep them in the house to keep them from freezing over. Less light is OK since willow trees are dormant in the winter time.
Be patient in the process and the results will be beautiful.
Greeting one hobby Bonsai from Indonesia Sir.
Good luck.

Any time in the late fall after the leaves have dropped.

When you want to do anything drastic to the branches or roots, always play safe when leaves have dropped in the winter months.
Beautiful tree!- I like the big base of the Nabari very wide, beefy, & gnarly defined turns of a semi wind swap style 😊
Nice tree. Any thoughts on cutting that thick branch off and regrowing the branches? That branch seems too thick in relation to the others.
Looks OK to me 🙂
can i "scar the branch" of my black pine to induce a "new branch growth" as well???
Love the videos!!
Not likely
Mikawa varieties sometimes will send out new buds but only sometimes

Emulate nature by breaking branches rather than cutting them smoothly. When in doubt, follow nature!
What is the English name for Xalkova ? From which species is it ?
Great tree I just love it …
Thank you 🙏
Thank you for watching!
