I think something that really hinders this kind of video game creepypasta stuff is the obsession with making everything so overly graphic and supernatural, like on the one hand you've got the typical shit everyone makes fun of like tears of blood and h y p e r r e a l i s t i c gore, but on the other there's also this fixation with making these "haunted" games address the player themselves, which is a major misstep IMO. The things that inspired these kind of creepypastas are shit like that weird hidden screen in Sonic CD or the hidden images in the Game Boy Camera, and while those are just a creepy looking gags, it's the idea that there's some weird spooky, very real thing hidden in your game that's the real horror aspect, but when you take that shit too far and make it absurdly over the top and implausible, it gets hard to take seriously. It's no different to Squidward's Suicide or DED BORT where the thing being described is way too absurd to be credible, and I feel like you need a small element of believability in your premise in order to make it relatable and familiar enough. That Essence game kinda pissed me off tho because it was ALMOST good, like the idea has a lot of potential and that weird black and white image was legit creepy, but everything involving the Mario characters completely ruined it.

Totally agree. IMO one of the few creepypasta "games" that did the haunted trope well was probably Petscop. However, even then it did seem cliche and unrealistic at times. Like a game will be unsettling and then all of the sudden jumpscare you with a "GET OUT." or something similar which ruins the whole feeling up until then. I actually just finished making a playlist of all the videos in the series if you're interested, although there's a decent amount of info that you can only get from reading through the wiki since the sites from 2010-2011 I mentioned before sadly no longer exist.
@@KirbyMario12345_939 I don’t think so but I also feel like unless you did a very thought out game that took way more effort than any short spooky game could deliver it would fall flat. The reason why we were so excited by the possibility of introducing Ganon as someone who wasn’t evil in Breath of the Wild is because we could see how this incarnation was different and what lead him to become a violent, dark force that succeeded in destroying Hyrule. Even then, it’s mostly sad rather than scary.
When I popped in the stream VOD and immediately saw a turtle-rat hybrid with a massive gash just before watching Vinny repeatedly brush Lint's teeth I knew this was gonna be a good time
I thought these kinds of games were lame back 13 years ago, now today, it's just cringe as fuck. People are missing the point that to be genuinely scary, you need subtlety- something none of these games have.
Why would any fucking sane Nintendo Worker just put "Help Me" and blood in the testing like yeah sure that's gonna get through and be put in the final release we gotta test out our blood RGB If your gonna make a story about haunted games, at least give it some realism.
jeez, that pokemon one is just a fuckin RPG maker tour of all the pokemon creepypasta hot spots "and if you look on your left you'll see a few dozen creepy remixes of the lavender town theme accompanied by graves and ghosts that kill you. and coming up on your right will be that one episode of the anime that gave all the japanese kids seizures"
Honestly I think some of these games would be more effective if they paced themselves slower and didn't rely on shock or jumpscares since you know, it's *Nintendo* A test/demo/beta/etc. of a recognizable classic that is notably darker, quieter or heavier in its subject matter is a believable concept because that does actually happen
Example 1:12:08 this could've been more interesting if she just started slowly taking health away and moving towards you, chasing you into the next area rather than a cheap scare with a cut to black and random teleportation
5:52 - 6:12 I'm just as annoyed as Vinny is at how many of the Nintendo fan games get taken down by them. But I was a little confused by what he said. Nintendo probably wasn't taking down fan games, like the Mario battle royal, just because they were basically making the same thing. I think that it was for the same reason why most of them get taken down, that being their popularity, which is basically just them being out in the open and frequently talked about. I think that even if Mario 35 didn't exist, that Nintendo would have still taken the battle royal fan game down, for the same reason they took the others down. This "Marlinkio" game (probably one of the most cursed of this collection imo), wouldn't be taken down, because who actually knew that it existed before now? Of course Nintendo takes down the games that people want to play. I mean it's not _"because_ people want to play them", obviously, but because they are well-known. Granted both of those statements go hand-in-hand, but even with the shared frustration I think that the former would be a little too cynical for me to say, unless it was EA. Again, I get it, I still hate Nintendo's stance (at least Nintendo of Japan, since they seem to call the shots on everything, despite being more 'behind' when it comes to PR) on fan games. There is a certain level of control that is expected over their IP's, but they take it too far. I just think that it's more cut-and-dry than you make it sound, not that it makes it much better of a situation. Just that they aren't actively thinking, "having fun are we? Well how about... *_now?!"_* as they pull the plug on a fun fan game.
There was an article on TSSZ (a Sonic fannews site) that talked about how copyright law works and whatnot by comparing Nintendo and Sega, basically to point out that it's not so much Nintendo being overkill because the way copyright laws are means that they're encouraged to take stuff down and while Sega is unusually lenient towards fanprojects. sonicdistrict.com/tssz/In-Depth_SEGA_&038;_Fan_Content_Takedowns.html Also companies taking down stuff that's similar to what they have in the pipeline is a thing. Sega, for instance, killed a Streets of Rage remake that had elements of all three games suspiciously close to a time where they announced a Streets of Rage re-release (if I'm remembering correctly, at least).
Yeah I’ve had this same view point for a while. I think there are three main reasons why they take down fan games. 1. It is too similar to something already in development, so they take it down to avoid competition. 2. It becomes popular to the point where large RUclips channels and websites start to cover it. Could bring attention away from official releases.
@@ThatGuy-tc6uv I think the main reason why SEGA is so lenient when it comes to fan works is because, for some reason, they haven’t been able create a good Sonic game for almost a decade. I believe the fans and fan games are almost the sole reason the IP has been able to stay relevant.

@@AgentRedJackal I love the spooky 4chan videos! I actually watched the "Number 15: Burger King Foot Lettuce" video before it became a meme while grinding for Challenges in Smash 4. I listen to 'em while decorating for Halloween, too!
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll give 'em a try!
Always be on the lookout for time-travelling alien ghosts that can remember the future
Vinny: "there's going to be payoff"
Kirby: "payoff?"
1:17:15
Mario: and remember if you do drugs you go to hell before you die
Vinny: Are these deku-goombas?
Me out loud to myself : Dekoombas?
Vinny: Dekoombas, that works.
Synchronicity is fucking weird dude.
Super Mario Dolor actually gets really good and creepy later on. One of the best creepy Mario games out there. The game is genuinely good once you get past the crappy beginning.
Damn dude that demo pack .exe one gave me some oldschool creepypasta vibes, back when people thought these sub-par tiny games were good horror games lmao
22:06 IT'S THE BLOOD PNG! THE ONE FROM THE SLAUGHTERING GROUNDS! The very one that started an entire lawsuit!
So surreal hearing Vinny listen to DDS. Awesome band, hope he becomes a fan.
Wait I haven't watched yet,do you mean Deaths Dynamic Shroud?
@@isaiahromero9861 im sure you already found out, but its in the DK game
@@csyrup that's dope!! I fucking love DDS their live album is incredible

Wow you actually played my game, The TV. There is more to the game, you only got a bad ending lol
loved the donkey kong.exe one, very neat
Near-tendo, Far-tendo, Wherever you Are-tendo
Alternative title: Cringe.exe pack
except the dk game, it was cool
@@agitatedskeleton yes
@@agitatedskeleton the dk game had good effort, better than all exe games.
FNAW isnt cringe, it has some good lore. I mean some FNAF fangames are cringe if you ask me
cring.xe
This is most definitely THE cursedest nintendo pack in existence today
I honestly didn't expect this to get uploaded after how absolutely crusty this was (like, even by sunday stream standards) and the fact it didn't pop up with the rest of the sunday stream
bro they uploaded toad games.
The most crusty game vinny ever played (that actually functioned as a game) was the sonic mario game where the physics was so bad vinny couldn't get past the first ledge without glitching through the floor
This stream was timed perfectly, considering that BEN DROWNED ended just a few days prior.
IT ONLY JUST ENDED?!
What does ended mean?
@@sackfu7952 Yep! Switched from the Majora's Mask format to some fake forums that Jadusable set up where people could converse with some of the ARG's characters and get clues on how to progress the story in 2010, stopped in 2011, and then suddenly came back in March of this year with new Majora's Mask stuff and another fake website. I actually just finished making a playlist of all the videos in the series if you're interested, although there's a decent amount of info that you can only get from reading through the wiki since the sites from 2010-2011 I mentioned before sadly no longer exist.
@@IPODsify Reached the conclusion of the story.
W H A T ? I had no fucking idea they started up again
ProffessorCreepyPasta was not living up to his name...
honestly thought that marlinkio game was made by the nintendo nightmares guy
give him a couple guns and its basically the same game
It's pretty different. Doesn't have the same type or level of crust that Game Maker's 3D engine can offer.
ben looks cute
also that "Disney Prince$$" song scares me
ben had a makeover after the tomodachi life streams
Ben has been doing well since his show got picked up again after 10 years
Ben had a glow up after being released from the cartridge after 10 years
donkeykong.exe is a vaporwave ad lmao. i shrieked when i saw the link to deathsdynamicshroud's bandcamp. He makes some wack shit and i love it
Yo donkeykong.exe music kinda slap tho?!
The song that played while Cranky was falling is 'Disney Prince$$', by death's dynamic shroud.wmv - in case you were wondering.
I'm usually pretty susceptible to jump scares and glitch horror but none of this shit was even remotely scary
for a man who doesnt watch anime a majority of the shit vinny says can be misconstrued as anime
essence.exe using the fucking dorkly mario is hilarious
I feel like the Metroid.exe game had a few elements that wouldn’t be out of place in a real Metroid game. I did not like the end, though.
Whole thing was lame
@A Pure Lucario and it wasnt even done right either
honestly, i think you can have a different outcome if you don't shoot the creature in the start
Does any “spook” game guilt trip you for killing Ganondorf? I feel that would earn it a spot on the shitlist.
45:25 - They're not bad for shitpost games. I'll give them that. All of these so far have brought something to the table.
but the screaming bloody faces gives no tactical advantages whatsoever
13:03 I'm pretty sure that's what experts would describe as a coma
Super Mario 64 but different was absolutely a piss take, there's no way it's serious
iirc the ridiculous story was part of an April Fool's/Joke build and the gameplay itself was still there in previous builds
How did I know that when Mario jumped on the goomba in that essence.exe game that it was going to bleed
Monkesauce, Halloweensauce, AND Disturbedsauce.
Le LINKMONGLER has arrived
When I popped in the stream VOD and immediately saw a turtle-rat hybrid with a massive gash just before watching Vinny repeatedly brush Lint's teeth I knew this was gonna be a good time
That slowed down Mario Song at around 31:50 actually sounds Very cool! Aaaand at 33:22 we have Soul Edge taking the Form of a Flower, nice
The jumpscare at 59:49 went right into a very loud ad for Shovel Knight Dig and I thought it was part of the jumpscare for a second
I thought these kinds of games were lame back 13 years ago, now today, it's just cringe as fuck.
People are missing the point that to be genuinely scary, you need subtlety- something none of these games have.
You're laughing. Nobungo's soul is forever trapped in the cartridge and you're laughin'.
The donkey Kong one sure is interesting.
Why would any fucking sane Nintendo Worker just put "Help Me" and blood in the testing like yeah sure that's gonna get through and be put in the final release we gotta test out our blood RGB
If your gonna make a story about haunted games, at least give it some realism.
jeez, that pokemon one is just a fuckin RPG maker tour of all the pokemon creepypasta hot spots
"and if you look on your left you'll see a few dozen creepy remixes of the lavender town theme accompanied by graves and ghosts that kill you. and coming up on your right will be that one episode of the anime that gave all the japanese kids seizures"
I loved the Essence.exe when I first played it, there's a really disturbing face at one end of the game
“Vapor wave is dead”
Man. C’mon. Why you gotta bring my day down even lower
I'm pretty sure that damage sound effect used on the Piranha Plant in Super Mario Dolor! is borrowed from Mother Brain.
Five nights at Wario’s one of the best fnaf fan series with a story that has actually been wrapped up in a nice little update bow
*Rotten rooms*
Exe.Character: *Want some drugs?*
Marlinkio's music was DAMN good
Fun fact: Having a game be an executable file automatically makes it scary!
This has almost done as good now as some of the main channel videos we've gotten
Honestly I think some of these games would be more effective if they paced themselves slower and didn't rely on shock or jumpscares since you know, it's *Nintendo*
A test/demo/beta/etc. of a recognizable classic that is notably darker, quieter or heavier in its subject matter is a believable concept because that does actually happen
Example 1:12:08 this could've been more interesting if she just started slowly taking health away and moving towards you, chasing you into the next area rather than a cheap scare with a cut to black and random teleportation
5:52 - 6:12
I'm just as annoyed as Vinny is at how many of the Nintendo fan games get taken down by them.
It's not just Mario 35. Look at AM2R.. It came out just before they announced the 2d with 3d graphic remake of metroid 2, so they took it down.
There was an article on TSSZ (a Sonic fannews site) that talked about how copyright law works and whatnot by comparing Nintendo and Sega, basically to point out that it's not so much Nintendo being overkill because the way copyright laws are means that they're encouraged to take stuff down and while Sega is unusually lenient towards fanprojects.
sonicdistrict.com/tssz/In-Depth_SEGA_&038;_Fan_Content_Takedowns.html
Also companies taking down stuff that's similar to what they have in the pipeline is a thing.
This Macarena Disturbed version cover was actually pretty good, Vinny, you gotta do the full song now !
The only quality game was Donkey Kong.exe
bro for some fucking reason a tab opened with joel's super ghostbusters album and i just went insane thinking it was playing in super mario dolor
