All of these issues are rooted in good old American Exceptionalism. Unfortunately, their arguments always descend into or focus on the idea that "American Democracy" is a God-given right available to America/ns ALONE, as America shares a "special covenant/chosenness" with God. I have many concerns about Australia's Democracy, especially our addiction and reliance on Superpowers, but my issues with Australian Democracy can be a discussion for another day. Right now, I struggle to count the arguments I've had with Americans telling me that Australia isn't a Democracy because we have COMPULSORY VOTING, telling me this is an attack on my human rights. Of the ones he co-sponsored, 218 made it into law. Sanders consistently advocated for progressive causes. He sponsored over 500 amendments to bills, many of which turned into law. Some of them include a ban on imported goods made by child labor. He has pushed laws that help the lower income not the wealthy. Please research before posting. If more congressmen were like Bernie, we would be much better off, and the income inequality would not be so extreme.

I visited half of the time a high school and the other half visited a work place. I got to know lots of lovely people. I'm really sad about the situation now.

There are also plenty of strategic reasons - getting rid of old equip, using up Russian supplies, testing new equip in the field,.. plus it's not like they're all gifts either. Same as in WW2 Ukraine is expected to repay the debts for the things that aren't only lent anyway.

All of these issues are rooted in good old American Exceptionalism. Unfortunately, their arguments always descend into or focus on the idea that "American Democracy" is a God-given right available to America/ns ALONE, as America shares a "special covenant/chosenness" with God.
I have many concerns about Australia's Democracy, especially our addiction and reliance on Superpowers, but my issues with Australian Democracy can be a discussion for another day. Right now, I struggle to count the arguments I've had with Americans telling me that Australia isn't a Democracy because we have COMPULSORY VOTING, telling me this is an attack on my human rights.
Democracy requires ALL OF US to fight for it and protect it. Don't wait for someone else to do it; by then, it's already too late. It reminds me of Niemöller's "First They Came" poem, which indirectly condemns the complicity of German intellectuals, clergy, corporate interests and class interests in the Nazis' rise to power. In return, the Devil's Bargain made was for Hitler and the Nazis to become their weapon as well, allowing all their "chosen targets" be destroyed.
...and all of it was done under the guise of Democracy.

He has pushed laws that help the lower income not the wealthy.

There was no "doomsday" talk during either of their administrations. The current average of polls for Right/Wrong direction of the country is 37.7% of people think the country is on the right track... which may seem low, but it's higher than it was during the last three years of the Biden administration and higher than at any point during Obama's 2nd term. While many might not like the current admin or the direction of the country, it appears quite a few people do with polling showing the current admin is at least on par with the last few administrations, or even slightly better received.

Of course the government tries to justify it, I'm not shocked by that at all. What I'm shocked is the lack of action from people.
In the United States, there are a lot of good people that feel the same as you do. We are watching in fear, as our government terrorizes communities and kills civilians. Many are out there fighting hard for our rights. But there are a lot of right wingers who are deeply indoctrinated. They worship cruelty and seem to revel in the murder of innocent people. The right wing media has been allowed to indoctrinate the masses and we are seeing the impact of this now. Cruelty and hatred have replaced compassion and intelligence on the right, and I don't see any of these people showing remorse or humanity, even when this terrorism is happening in front of their eyes.
Just listening to you Bernie brings me some comfort during these difficult times. Thank you for speaking to this.

I visited half of the time a high school and the other half visited a work place. I got to know lots of lovely people. I'm really sad about the situation now.

I've never had to worry about our government before and while I've struggled financially at times, things have generally been good! I'm a single mother of 3 boys, 2 are now grown. But I did my best and we always had a home, medical insurance, food, clothing. The new regime puts everything at risk. I'd hate to be a young mother now......
