Shree Lairai devi jatra 2023 || shirgao || Goan festival || Kalash ustav

Shirgao is the holy place of goddess Lairai devi ( श्री लइराई ), Its very old and famous temple. The annual jatra (festival) associated with this shrine features unusual customs and rituals drawn from the area’s tribal past.
Lairai-devi and Milagres Saibinn (Virgin Mary) of nearby Mapusa are recognized as sisters by Goan Hindus and Catholics, an illustration of Goa‘s syncretic ethos. An annual festival is held at the temple to offer, praise and worship to the goddess. Thousands of followers flock to the temple each year to pay homage to the goddess.
