Hello Justin, I am 71 now. 6 years ago, after a serious illness, I started to learn the guitar. 4 years ago I could start the first tender attempts as a rhythm guitarist in an old sock band. Until today the band has changed a lot, we play only acoustic. And in the meantime I also sing. We cover songs from rock, folk, blues, pop. Two or three gigs a year have been added. I owe all this to you and other well-known RUclips teachers. This video about the slash chords is again something very fundamental and brings me further again. Many thanks for this without such help I would never have come so far, because regular guitar lessons I can not afford as a poor swallower.
Loved reading your comment and not only was it lovely but inspiring. Especially for someone like myself that tends to be afraid of my own shadow at times, yet about to release an album and playing venues soon. That’s awesome, brethren! Keep at it.
you should check out Justin's Music Theory Course on his website, I have been playing guitar on and off for over 30 years and I have learned so much on his website.
I actually have subscribed and have been making my way through... Slowly. Life is hard when you suddenly have to provide full time care and education to your 4 and 2 year old and try to work from home at the same time.
@@happyhell1 Too right man, best wishes and know that you're taking care of the most important things before the lesser ones, good on ya. Justin thanks so much -- that is one excellent slash chord lesson. I especial like that F/G that can travel down the neck, nice!!! Adding these to my chord book!!!
Timely video. Just encountered my first base note chords last week in the song, Pictures of Lily, written by Pete Townsend, which uses C/B with the 4th string muted, and Am/G.
Hey Justin, thanks for the videos. Just wondering if you will ever get back to doing more advanced lessons. I learned from your beginner and intermediate courses over 10 years ago, which was great. I know people like updated video quality and everything but I miss advancing through your course levels, it helped keep me practicing and interested for a long time.
Once a 🎸 learns inversions slash chords will make more sense. Thanks for this simple yet informative video! A great teacher always breaks down the complex into digestible pieces of information.
OMG! I've played a lot of those Chords while playing songs while hearing them and did not think about it. Same time I read those things like C/E and did not know what to do and what that means. Now it all comes together and it makes all sense. Thank you so much for cure me from blindness. Now I've reached next level ;-)
At last ! These slash chords have puzzled me for ages ! So much to learn from - in this video, to keep me busy for ages ! And so useful to make progress just as I was flatlining !! What a terrific video tutorial...many thanks Justin..

Bruce Cockburn plays a tune called "Man Of A Thousand Faces". Key of C, 2nd chord is D/G. Gorgeous chord and if you are up for a challenge replace the D/G with a Gmaj9. Even Better though hard to play. It's basically the 3 high notes of a D and the 2 low notes of a G. Another way to explain it is the D/G with a finger added to the 2nd fret 5th string.
Fantastic Justin I'm learning loads for when I just watch you teach it all makes so much sense after 6 years and coming to 66 years retired now so have plenty of practice time
I was literally just asking if some one could explain this to me and here this is being recommended. Is Google listening to my conversations? idk, idc. Just thankful for your lessons.
justin you are great you help me out a lot but what what i would like to know is how to change a C chord that is play in the 3rd and 4th frets to Cminor.
Slash chords are so common on ukulele (due to the limited bass notes available without barres on 4 strings) that they're often not even noted as such. E.g. what you typically see noted as a C chord is really a C/G.
I just watched this video today for the first time, and the very next song I looked up to add to my song bank had 6 different slash chords! What are the odds? LOL!! (The song was Lovers Moon by Glenn Frey.)
I have such small hands I cannot, even on an Ibanez Wizard III neck, reach around to mute 6. I wish I could but not happening. I would need a thin Wizard III neck with a 39-40mm wide nut to do it BUT then I get into trouble with wide fingers.
The whole time I though you will play both note really fast to fit on the timing lol hahaha. They thought me that, like strumming both chords in the same beat lol
Justin. I ask. Do you know that beginners watch the same videos (this is not my "John Mayer, record, off the record routine") over and over? Your comment about breaking up the long lesson motivated my comment.
Which grip are you referring to? Is there a C note on the A string? Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher www.justinguitar.com
@@justinguitar with the g/b arent you playing a d on the b string when you switch to C? thanks for responding, I am only learning so bear with me. Thanks.
I literally can’t play F. Even the cheater versions. I can’t bar 2 of the strings !!! I have such small hands. I’m restricted to so many songs because I can’t play F
If you need to, sometimes you can work around it with a key change. Lots of songs use C, F, G, and Am, which you can play as G, C, D, and Em with capo 5 (or A, D, and E w/ capo 3 if you don't need the minor 6th chord).

Wow thankyuuu
I was taught, Every Aging Dad Goes Bald Eventually
Bridge Over Troubled Water is a classic using the alternative bass notes.
Thank you Justin...

Old Bowie's song are also great inspiration for slash chords
You just about played the rhythm to Mind Games by John Lennon. Great lesson as per usual.

D/F# ; I actually use the thumb to mute the A string, when I play D, but I don’t hit the low E string. Makes hitting just the right notes easier.

So good, thank you Justin! Bought a Beatles songbook years ago and saw all the slash chords and said screw it, this book sucks
Definitely thought these were Slash the musician when I got handed a chord book 15 years ago :D
Well that was unexpected. When will you upload this on a site?
Isn't RUclips a site?
The whole of L14 is due out later today on the website - this slipped out!
Oasis - Gas Panic is a good example as well

I thought this was gonna be chords that the artist slash made his signature.
It would be nice to change the tabs as he changes cords as I can't see where his fingers are due to me being a very new learner.
This sound is so wonderful. The person who is reading this comment, I wish you great success, health, love and happiness!

oo sorry
