Totally agree. Once they're outside the pocket they're runners and need to be treated as such. While this looks bad in slow motion, when you look at it real time it's very much a bang-bang play. Lawrence is running full speed one way, the defender moving the other and Trevor only goes into his slide less than 2 yards from the defender - maybe about 4 to 4 1/2 feet. It's less than a second between the start of the slide and the hit. And when you get QBs like Josh Allen who are known to fake the slide, it's a lose-lose play for a defender. If they pull up, the QB may pull an Allen and keep on running. If they go in for the tackle they risk this type of hit, penalty and suspension. Ban the slide entirely.
@@FallGelb1940defender can't stop all of a sudden. Lawrence was trying get 1st down, defender was trying to keep him from getting the 1st down - couldn't stop
Cowardly act by coward fans. Why don't they come out of the stands and fight him like a man? Yeah. They don't want that smoke. Unfortunate hit but Trevor is a big boy. Maybe that's why the Jags aren't winning cause they got a big crybaby at QB1.
I'm watching this as a Lions fan from the city. I hope next season for the jags will be better. That hit was just not necessary at all. Trevor was sliding you can't touch him if he's sliding.

At 1:11, you see a Texan jersey with the name Stingley Jr. on the back. #24, Derek Stingley Jr. is the grandson of the late Darryl Stingly who was permanently paralyzed by a vicious hit in 1978 during a preseason game between the Raiders and the Patriots.
The hit causing Stingley's paralysis in the preseason game decades ago WAS vicious -- it was a jarring blast to a WR dragging across the middle of the field leaping to catch a pass -- BUT that hit WAS ALSO COMPLETELY, 100% LEGAL under the rules at the time ... and thus there was NO PENALTY. That was a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT situation than today's ILLEGAL CHEAP SHOT on QB Trevor Lawrence who had slid down.
As soon as I saw it I was like “wtf are you doing!?”. He’s a great player but there have been multiple instances of borderline late hits with him and a couple of others. Just dumb. None of that was needed
@barrywatts875 It's football definitely late hit! Stop overreacting because it's someone you like. No suspension. Hefty fine! Move on. He hesitated a little then slid. But definitely a late hit
He did not do this to Caleb this year if you rewatch that play Caleb still in inbound hasn’t stepped out yet it’s still a fair hit whether you run towards sideline or not he was still in bounds. THIS on the other hand very dirty hit that’s just uncalled for
Its called a Fencing response, it happens after a TBI traumatic brain injury like a concussion - his left arm going out straight while the right curls in is a clear example of it.
I appreciate the standing on business by Jacksonville. First guy in, props to Engram - second man in, blindside tackle - you protect your QB and stand up for him, no matter what. Good on them.

I think, however, in defense of the hit, upon careful viewing, the green player slipped at the last moment so the attackers hit went very low into the face/head when i think he was actually trying to make a legal tackle which if green player hadnt slipped would have connected at the chest/body...i dont think there was intent or malice just a badly mistimed hit....
I would believe you here butttt early this that same defensive player punched a bears water girl so it was probably intentional it has been acting like this all season
Good on the jags players for having their QBs back but even some of the Texans players were concerned for Lawrence and stunned at Al Shaair for that hit

@@jaymike3302 No, not when the runner slides, you then cannot hit him. Al Shaair should be fined his entire salary and suspended for at least 1 year for the hit, and another year for his reaction to the ensuing brawl.
Like throwing a flag extra high in the air somehow makes the penalty matter more. I always thought the nfl mandated that the refs do that for personal fouls and fights because that's the only time they do it. Does a ref [who gets paid just the same] really give a sh** if there is a punch thrown more than a false start?? It's all a show and the sheeple can't get enough of it.
The hit wasn’t late. The slide was late . The LB had already launched before the QB slide. The LB couldn’t stop his momentum because the slide was late. The hit was not dirty. The LB got a good hit on a QB who was trying to get a first down. That’s football. He will slide early next time that’s for damn sure!!!!
@@darrylstone6217So he needs to use his forearm to Trevors head/neck? Newsflash! The commentators, the refs, the rules expert, and the NFL all disagree with you. Maybe they should have gotten your opinion before they ruled on this.

@arthurcurry1910 Sounds like you are one of those people who never played a day in your life. He needs to be banned from football.

Do y’all understand how fast football players are moving and how much momentum they have? He hit the slide button way too late. Shaair was already loading for the hit before the slide was even initiated. He had not even a half-second to react. These calls need a start being looked at differently, thid was UNFORTUNATE but it wasn’t DIRTY
That's exactly what happened in 1986 with the Jim McMahon/Charles Martin incident. Referee Jerry Markbriet was commended for doing that by the-comissioner Pete Rozelle.
Needs to be suspended for the rest of the season and playoffs. Set a precedent on these brutal life changing hits. I love a great hit/tackle. This was just sickening.
Lamar Jackson got hit late with full body weight to the turf and no call. Both players go into motion at the same time. How does the defensive player know Lawrence isn't faking the slide just to hurdle him? Fact is.. When your QB runs, he's taking the risk of getting hit!!
FINALLY someone said it. This is absolute BS everyone acting like this is the dirtiest play ever. He touched the darn guy? Am I blind or something. Go look at the Drew Bledsoe hit now that was a darn hit. The problem is not that this is a dirty hit it's this whole concept of defenseless runner. Call me old school but I think there should be no such thing as a defenseless player if your carrying the football. These guys drop their guard and slide so when the defender lays a finger on them their aerodynamics get transferred right to the turf and they bang their head on the turf. Back in the day it was understood that if you were a QB and wanted to be dual threat you accepted the positives of being mobile but also accepted that once you were in enemy territory you were fair game to get your wig split like any other ball carrier. That was the tradeoff.
I'm all for taking unnecessary danger & injury out of the equation... but while this may warrant a flag it's sooo little time for the defender to react. He initiates into a tackle as the slide begins, and it's asking a lot for him to somehow not continue the hit he started. I wish they'd change the QB slide rules so they can't do it within a certain range of defenders and be protected from a hit. It is way too much on defenders to react to, as some QBs (not sure about Trevor) will feign a slide and then continue further. It's like in ice hockey where a a player turns into the boards to avoid a hit and gets put face first into the glass. You can't penalize a defender for making a clean hit where the puck/ball carrier is changing their position to avoid it.
The defender dove the same time Trevor went to slide. Why does everyone think you can change direction or stop when your feet are no longer on the ground?
TL started sliding about 5 yards before he got hit and dude launched himself after the slide started. One of the more egregious dirty hits I've ever seen
@@bennysats6076 literally slow down the video to see that you are wrong lmao, it's right there on the field and if you watch in slow motion you CANNOT DENY that both of the players made their initiating moves (trevor slide, defender tackle) at the same freaking time.
To be fair it looks like a late slide. These QBs has to make that decision earlier. Fake slides are a real thing. I think sliding should be took away. Only diving or kneeling
I would maybe agree with that but he led with the forearm to the head and neck area. I am all for big hits but not like that. I think the league should make fake sliding illegal.
Traumatic brain injury symptoms. The blow was directly to the head using the elbow guard. A completely unnecessary and intentional effort to severely harm.
Al-Shaair should be suspended for a year, minimum, if not permanently banned. I'm saying this because he clearly used his elbow as a weapon with intent to harm. There needs to be a strong enough deterrent to help prevent these type plays, since some players are clearly sociopaths (as are some people in these comments, JFC)
@karlk9316 watch again in slow motion, his forearm never directly makes contact with the helmet. Def hit Trevors upper chest/neck area, but that's not what's bad. His head bouncing off the ground is wat was bad. The ground is wat caused the concussion, like it does about 64% of the time but nobody can speak on that cuz the billionaire owners can't afford to replace these concrete covered in turf carpets with natural grass.
@@dwl2383 Should not have been there. He slid late. We see this time and time again. Terrible position to put yourself in, terrible position to put the defender in. If you don't want to get hit, don't wait until the very last second.
As a Jags fan…I am fucking disgusted. This was a cheap, dirty ass hit. There’s no place for this in the NFL. No place. I am heartbroken as Trevor is obviously my favorite player, and he just returned from injury. (Apologies for the language I’m just upset understandably)
Lawrence is equally responsible for the hit. That’s obvious in the slo mo replays. He went into his slide After the defender had lowered himself for the tackle. The defenders arm came up to protect from a helmet to helmet hit. The defender had no way to change or slow down his tackle attempt. Yes it was a viscouos hit but that’s what happens in the game when 2 players are running at top speed.
@@witchking6662I’ll accept the sliding late arguments when they clearly try to pull up and end up inadvertently hitting him in the head or neck area, but in this case he started the slide before he even started lunging forward for the tackle, and still delivered the forearm shiver to the head, with 0 indication of trying to avoid the hit or pull up. It’s a more plausible argument when guys are lunging for the legs and the guy starts his slide, but in this case it’s not even close
As a Packers fan, nobody from the jags should’ve been ejected, gotta let players protect their teammates. If that means Aziz ends up getting carted off too, good riddance.
No. #22 of Jaguars didn't throw a punch, he pushed the referee in the pack is what drew the flag. As per NFL rule, a player cannot touch a referee in any way or any form of action. What he did was he pushed the referee to continue the brawl so that results him a disqualification from the game. He is expected to receive a fine, but short of suspension. #17 of Jaguars should have receive an ejection too for unnecessary roughness, in addition to, unsportsmanlike conduct. He didn't get ejected for it.
The smile on his face as he did it. As said on another channel, this isn’t the first or 3rd time he’s done something like this. He’s done it several times before. That smile as he lowered his head put up his arm and lunged forward…. You knew what you were doing.
As a giants fan, I don’t like Evan Engram as a player, but man he earned my respect by having Trevor’s back there. His response was 1000% warranted and he did not hesitate.
In my time (I'm 72) this was how the game was played. QBs didn't slide (aka flop). They ran broken field to elude pursuers, and they had an offensive line to take out the pursuers. Blindsiding was part of the game. Now if you breathe on the QB they throw you out of the game.
At full speed, I thought it was a shoulder pad to the helmet. In slow motion, it was an elbow which makes it worse. The defender had more than enough time to notice that Lawrence was sliding and go for a tag or glancing hit. So dirty hit!
Yeah I didn't think it was a bad hit from the angle it first showed at full speed but when they showed the slow slowmo from the other angle, that was malicious as fuck. Dude better get suspended for a few games
@allisonkrueger8330 yeah but I'm seeing you could make the argument that he was already engaged from the one angle because he comes from out of frame but when you look at it from the other angle he clearly can see what he's doing and has a chance to bail out but doesn't and instead opts to drive his forearm into his helmet.
That's good that his team mates supported him. I remember several years back when the Red Rocket, aka Andy Dalton was filling in for Dak Prescot. He took a freight train cheap shop from a linebacker after he clearly slid down. Not one team mate retaliated, not one, they left him out there knocked out and by himself. The entire offense stayed by the line of scrimmage which was about fifteen yards away from the incident. They didn't even say anything to the linebacker as he was walking back to the line of scrimmage, and yes, he was ejected. Dalton was hauled off the field on a cart and did not return and was taken to a hospital for observation. He did not return to play for several months. Here's another incident that just happened yesterday, Nov. 30, 2024, Notre Dame's defensive lineman, Rylie Mills cold cocked a USC offensive lineman that was flat on his back on the field. This took place right in front of a referee and was caught on nation wide TV, the game commentators brought it to the media's attention several times including a slow motion zoomed in shot of the incident and nobody but the TV commentators said or did anything about it. This would have been immediate ejection, school fined, and possibly deny any Bowl appearances. I've watched the sports channels all day yesterday and all day today and not once did I see anything mentioned of this incident. I can't figure out why, normally this would have been blown up all over the media.
I remember that Andy Dalton incident. Was surprised that no one tried to retaliate for their teammate and even more surprised that no one even walked over there to check on him
Now hold on just a minute @williamwoldt2174. Time to check your anti-Notre Dame bias and correct your INCORRECT, DISINGENUOUS, and PARTIAL/SELECTIVE recitation of the so-called "facts." BUT first let me say up front that I in NO WAY "condone" any player "punching" another; moreover, my CORRECTION of your MISLEADING characterization of the incident and my placing it into proper context also in no way approves of players punching one another. Several points: 1. The ND-USC incident you invoke has NOTHING to do with a dirty hit in the Jaguars-Texans game that concussed and knocked out Jags' starting QB Trevor Lawrence. 2. The blow struck by ND's lineman was NOWHERE NEAR tantamount to a "cold cock" as you allege in your inflammatory and hyperbolic language. The ND lineman Rylie Mills did throw a punch (that from one certain camera angle was merely much more akin to a quick and abbreviated fist jab rather than some massive haymaker coming out of nowhere and blindsiding some unsuspecting victim who can't defend himself. Let's be honest. 3. The punch/fist jab was a brief, partially restrained blow aimed at the PROTECTIVE STEEL CAGE/FACEMASK of USC's O-lineman Emmanuele Pregnon (who was directly facing the ND player as the jab took place and he fully saw it coming; he was NEVER IN DANGER of being the least bit "hurt" because the protective steel facemask/cage stopped the fist jab from ever touching his face or head). 4. You also cleverly and conveniently OMITTED from your faux indignation the DIRTY and unsportsmanlike action the USC player committed against the ND player THAT PROMPTED THE FIST JAB RETALIATION in the first place: USC's Emmanuele Pregnon was grabbing and tugging at Riley Mills' leg DURING THE PLAY at the goal line scrum. Not only does the USC lineman have NO BUSINESS using his hands to tug at an opposing D-lineman's leg while the defender is physically engaged, and not only is it a penalty against the O-lineman (that was also never called), BUT IT IS ALSO DANGEROUS to the D- lineman, a risk of injuring him during the game, and a potential longer term threat to his future NFL career ... as his leg & knee can easily get twisted and wrenched. The fist jab to the facemask was a RETALIATION to get the USC player to "back off" and to send the message in effect that he had better "knock it off." Again, this is NOT to condone fighting or punch throwing, but it's disheartening that you would INTENTIONALLY (???) OMIT the FULL sight picture of what truly transpired on the play. 5. Additionally, to say that the fist jab to the facemask of an opposing player would -- IF called -- automatically result in "ejection" is simply NOT NECESSARILY TRUE. It would be true if it was deemed an actual "punch" or fight. But not if it were deemed a "backoff" jab or push to a facemask. I have officiated plenty of high school football games (where the rules are even stricter), and the "definitiveness" of a full-blown "ejection" all depends on what exactly the referee saw and whether he characterized it in his judgment as an unprovoked full-blown actual punch to an unsuspecting player either capable of hurting or intended to hurt an opposing player. (NOTE: in a high school game where both safety and good sportsmanship are especially paramount, if the jab/punch were visibly seen by the crowd and the other players, personally speaking I probably would have ejected a high school player for that facemask jab, even if I saw the unsafe leg grab/twist that provoked it -- but then I ALSO would have penalized and ejected the other player who had illegally grabbed and tugged on the player's leg for safety considerations and unsportsmanlike play too). But in college it very well may be different. It's actually quite possible that the official(s) saw the ENTIRE EXCHANGE between the two players -- not only the ND player's fist jab to the facemask retaliation, but also the USC player's dirty foul that provoked the retaliation -- and he very easily might have pulled both players aside during a break in play after the score to tell them both to knock it off (rather than call offsetting 15 yard "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalties against BOTH players). That IS certainly one way some game officials would handle such a situation if they deemed it relatively benign and limited. It was certainly MUCH less violent than the nauseating fisticuffs that broke out between Ohio State and Michigan players on the field following their game where actual sucker punches and body blows took place amid an outright brawl. Again, some sense of perspective here is in order. 6. Finally, even IF the scenario was the "worst case possible" that necessitated player ejection, it's pure unsupported speculation and hyperbole for you to suggest the incident would trigger the "school [getting] fined" or "den[ied] any bowl appearances." That's pure NONSENSE. College football is NOT the NFL or any other for-profit professional sports league wherein the NCAA would somehow magically have a right to levy fines upon non-profit academic institutions for in-game penalties. And to the extent a school might be denied the ability to participate in any potential bowl game, that could ONLY come about following some severe INSTITUTIONAL SANCTION such as being placed "on probation" with scholarships being cut/limited owing to various "recruiting violations," "loss of institutional control," etc. -- NOT from some isolated SINGULAR 15-yard "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalty (if called) against ONE player in ONE game !!!!!!!!! SMH at this nonsense.
Yal Soft AF, how quick this game is played he wants to slide 1/2 second before immanent contact… he’s a fuckin runner… sliding shit shouldn’t get automatic protection, it’s not a late hit
I can definitely see that being the case from here on out. Their players especially himself will have dollar signs above their heads just like the Saints scandal back in the day.
If you watch it at full speed I can see how and why the defender made the hit, if you watch it in slow motion it looks worse, from the defenders point of view the game is at full speed.
@drifters_premium_collectib1095 He didn’t even have to do that. If a QB slides, the play is dead the moment the QB begins the slide. So all he had to do was literally pull off and make as little contact as possible.

Jack Tatum..code assassin...New Jersey born..

That was the tradeoff.
.......you really need to take a high school intro to physics class 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

Several points:
People who disreguard rules like that should be banished from the NFL!
Yes.
Theres been worst
Rules for what ?
It’s football. He turned his shoulder to take his legs out before the slide
@@templar1060Dude what video you watching. He was CLEARLY in sliding mode long b4 this P.O.S did what he did.
Yal Soft AF, how quick this game is played he wants to slide 1/2 second before immanent contact… he’s a fuckin runner… sliding shit shouldn’t get automatic protection, it’s not a late hit
The ref threw his hat so high in the air after the first retaliation hit
I bet his teammates are gonna let him have it. He just put a hit out on any Texans player for the rest of the game. And a hit means a dirty hit.
Cap
I can definitely see that being the case from here on out. Their players especially himself will have dollar signs above their heads just like the Saints scandal back in the day.
If you watch it at full speed I can see how and why the defender made the hit, if you watch it in slow motion it looks worse, from the defenders point of view the game is at full speed.
Tito Santana couldn't have hit a better flying forearm than that.
Gorilla Monsoon: El Paso Del Morte!!!
Bobby Heenan: What did you say that was? Extra Hot Pace Picantee?
Gorilla Monsoon: will you stop.
ITS NOT LUCHA LIBRE WERE ITS FAKE THIS IS REAL
Such an avoidable play and he just gave him brain damage. Absolutely sick out of that guy, and he seemed completely unapologetic. Disgusting
go cry
All he had to do was just tap him with his hand. That’s literally it. This was disgusting
@drifters_premium_collectib1095 He didn’t even have to do that. If a QB slides, the play is dead the moment the QB begins the slide. So all he had to do was literally pull off and make as little contact as possible.
No self-control, belongs in prison. He actually would be in prison right now if he did not play football.
@ just shut the hell up racist go whine to your own about a football hit the worse things ever you idiot. Always trying to take a black man down, if it had been a black QB not one of you would have anything to do to say, like I said racist much? YES💩💩💩💩💩
Thanks for posting. The NFL game highlights left it out. 😅
That was a White on Black hit it would have remained in the re plays.
The defender was committed to the Play sliding puts you at a disadvantage but just all around a unfortunate event
Way more than a “huge hit.” It was blasting someone in the head/face with a metal brace with the intent to seriously scramble his brains. As dirty as they come. A 6 figure fine and permanently banning him from the game, period.
@@uptowndoof3993 it’s obviously felonious assault and should be prosecuted.
And, he used the arm with a brace too. The brace was used as a weapon.
Relax, Karens. It’s football. It’s a bad hit in a fast sport, give him 4-6 games. You want him to be banned forever and incarcerated ? 🤣🤣🤣 The testosterone shortage is an epidemic.
@@Celticsaint777 It’s something but it’s definitely not “felonious assault” 🤣🤣
@@ColGessoI would think that attacking someone with an item that can be used as a weapon (and with an intent to maim) is felonious assault
I'm stunned!!! And this guy has a reputation for being dirty. I don't think I've ever seen a football brawl like this before. Baseball yeah, but not football. This guy shouldn't be playing, period. Thanks to the poster! I was looking for this everywhere and it's the full event too!
Nothing wrong with that hit. If Lawrence wanted to get the 1st down he should have protected himself. If he wanted to give himself up he should have slid at a safe distance. Any QB that played in the 70s 80s or 90s would agree
In all honesty, I'm surprised this guy still has a career after he went for Tom Brady's throat back when he was on the 49rs. And then he punched Caleb Williams in the facemask this season and now this? I'll be surprised if this guy plays again this season.
@@Ginnyrules27 shut up..your wrong about the 49ers.. I'm a die hard.. you're thinking Dre Greenlaw..stop that bs..and Caleb Williams is ass
😂 know who tf y'all talking about .he doesn't have a history..Dre Greenlaw on the 49ers hits ..I swear y'all just wanna sound relevant
@@thisguy8373he did try chocking Tom Brady a couple seasons ago, and he's had some late hits this season already
3 game suspension is a joke, how is he not done for the year?
Bro got his ass beat and suspended at least. He’s gonna have a humongous target on his back. A lineman on 31 other nfl teams sees this guy within a kilometer of their QB is gonna plant him 6ft deep
3 games is basically done for the year. What are you on?
He lost 3 games of pay! That’s a lot of money! Makes me happy he’s loosing it!
You have a low iq towards football
Year?? How about career!
He could have been stopped running. He kept trying to gain more and more yardage the more yardage you try to gain you put yourself at danger
The hit was bad enough but then he followed through and slammed his head into the concrete.
Needs a Long, Long Suspension.
Theres been worst
Concrete on a football field? Did u watch the play or just listen to the announcers? They spin that narrative. Gotta protect the messiah.
Concrete? 😂
Concrete? WTF? 😂😂😂
No wonder they lots injuries in the nfl cuz they play on concrete
I love the team coming to Lawrence aid. They went after the Texans guy like “wtf bitch why u being dirty”. Also the jags should not get penalized for defending their qb that’s bullshit.
Five game suspension, and he has to remove his towel
Agreed
He should be banned from the league. That was egregious
He proved today he is not a “professional”. He is nothing more than a juiced up scumbag. I hope one day he has a son that plays football and somebody does that to his child.
@allenshadrick22 woah banned?? It was a late hit for sure and pretty egregious but banned??
no, suspended that dirty thug for the rest of the season
fencing response after the hit. Praying for trevor man🙏🏽
No matter what team we’re cheering for that was a intentional cheap shot and he deserves more than a suspension and fine. It was obviously intentional and he was proud of it afterwards too.
Oh my….. NOBODY should EVER tackle someone like that EVER
Not even really a tackle, just a very dirty hit that was very late when T-Law was sliding
@ I noticed that when I rewatched the play.
😂😂😂 you libs bout to find out about trump maga is for everything everything goes bk to wen it was great including footballs. Go watch 1980s football you'll see
I don’t mind the hit, it’s just the fact that he was sliding!!!
That was football from inception until the mid 90s…
I totally get why it’s a horrendous play today knowing what we know about concussions, and the dude should be suspended !
Lawrence is reclining, 9/10ths of the way down .. and you launch and throw a forearm into his head .... scummiest hit I've seen in a while.
🤦♂️
Joe Mixon playing peacekeeper at the end is wild with his history lol look on his face says alot
2:28 Even his teammates was like “bruhhh😩”. They’ll fight for ya but still, even they knew it was bad.
Wtf man this is Flacco hit all over again
This is worse
Exactly
Leaned with the elbow
Cry me a river
Trent Green
I agree its a dirty hit, but, it is a bang bang decision of defender diving at him, and the decision to slide. If lawrence slides a half step earlier this is all avoided without any incident. The burden of everything being on defense is getting kinda annoying. If a RB lowers his head and hits a defender in the head its a penalty on the defense at this point
The forearm is what did it, but I agree with you that's a bang bang play!
The defender is also trying to prevent a first down
Nah, he knew what he's going to do.
Well…with that last name and that first name and that hit to the Head ….. he’s about to be DE PORTED 😭🤣
The fact that he had no remorse, is worse
@@Matt-wp1xn these guys get praised throughout college for hurting other players and the fact they never mature from that mindset in the NFL leads to incidents like this guys like him just need to be suspended and heavily fined if they do this kind of stuff it's the only way of stopping it from happening

@@drdrew3 remove the word 'defenseless' that YOU added and everything I said is 100% factual and true but even then there are stratigic situations where you would still be praised for injuring defenseless opponents like if its for a championship and its one of their key players. He hit him with his braced up left arm.
I hope that the defensive player is banned for the rest of the season.
Because he needs to be an example on how not to hit someone illegally.
What else was he supposed to do? Let him score??
