In the end, they did put up wood railing around the whole platform. It looks great! I'll shoot a video or two from up there in the near future. Thanks for checking it out!
Mark! Fantastic to hear your voice again. Years ago we used to ride our motorcycles out there just to listen to those working locomotives. Hard to really catch that lively deep grumble on video, but wearing the big headphones today, the sound brings back memories!
I was there in Sept. 2020. Hope to make one last trip this September before I leave California for (my) good, to check this out. Looks like real quality construction.
Good shot of consist in the loop. It's pretty cool that the head end conductor can inspect his/her own train by just looking sideways out the window! Like a snake watching it's own tail! Very nice looking overlook. Somebody is forward thinking and thinking about us rail fans and their safety. Life is good.
I'm glad they did SOMETHNG. One used to be allowed to drive in the lower portion and park, with a view of the entire thing. I sat next to the tracks with my kids when they were younger, waving at the engineers.
And no one had a problem with that until people started leaving messes, venturing too close to the tracks and going onto Loop Ranch property to get better views.
We are going to have to have a fundraiser in order to put a 20 foot statue of you, Mark on top of the loop hill! I’m sure that you will make a fine looking statue!
Glad to see a project undertaken being finished to the end. Sure many folks will appreciate the safer vantage point to view the trains. Hope the idiots with the spray paint cans and having way to much time on their hands do not harm it.
Outstanding Mark when I go to Bakersfield in October for the California hot Rod reunion I will stop in Tehachapi and check it out I’m glad you’re getting out and sounding good I hope you’re enjoying your new Harley I miss riding mine but I’m stuck with my ole CJ-7 I plan on installing a full roll cage so I can tell my old biker friends that I’m driving in a cage now. Take care of yourself and best wishes to your family
Impressive work. At least it gives a better view of the loop, than the old public viewing area, and provides a way to watch trains just a few feet from the other "non public" place we used to go at the east end of Walong. Good work as usual, Mark. Thanks for the update.
Ha! Yeah, everyone refers to Tehachapi as being in the mountains but it's technically high desert. It's not as hot as Bakersfield or Mojave but it gets close and it's still bone dry in the summer. Thanks for checking it out!
I visited the Tehachapi loop a few years ago from the UK. This outlook is just what is needed for the famous railway landmark. Would also be nice if permission could be sorted to remove the big tree blocking out the full view. Well done too the Tehachapi Depot. HK 075
One of the places I like go there to watch the trains just right to that plaque a trail going out to a rocky outcrop overlooking the tunnel I forgot what number was but I don't think it's there anymore since they double-tracked it
You can still walk out to the tree and picnic table looking into tunnel 9 and tunnel 10 at the top end of the loop is still there. They only excavated for the new #2 track!
It varies. Mondays are maintenance window days and few trains run during daylight hours. We were up there Saturday and saw zero trains all morning. Other days they're running nose to tail. It's always a crapshoot.
That was a very nice view of the New Tehachapi Loop Overlook for watching trains even at distance. It was made with graffiti artists in mind, that they would not be close to the trains. Mark Clay McGowan, you did a nice filming.
Yup, he mentioned it. See the video on the Tehachapi Live Train Cams YT website: ruclips.net/channel/UC6RIkXobtXWJElbwEHIC-sg Be sure to check out the Loop webcam during the day - it shows how astounding an engineering / surveying marvel the ROW is, going downhill from the loop to Woodford siding. AND ... it was constructed ~145 years ago!
You have to have a very compelling reason to cut down oak trees and I don't think better pix and videos will convince the state or county to give it a go-ahead. Never hurts to ask though. Write your congressman!
What a wonderful project. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Glad to hear your sounding well
Looks great.
thanks for a very interesting vid. have been watching this project since day #1

Thanks! It's good to have my voice back and I'm glad I could bring back some memories!
Thanks Mark,
I've been checking the Tehachapi loop for years, so now I have to come have another look,
and about time on the lookout.
I was there in Sept. 2020. Hope to make one last trip this September before I leave California for (my) good, to check this out. Looks like real quality construction.
I went by there yesterday and they have put railing around it as well as fenced it to the east and west. It looks even better!
Mark thank for taking time to make this video nice job
Thanks. My pleasure!
Very Cool to see they’re building an Overlook to View the trains going around Tehachapi Loop. 👍
Glad to hear that your voice recovered! Enjoy your videos.

With a button you can push and I'll say "ah...but anyway"!
We can make it with one of those giant Paul Bunyon lumberjack dudes, or sometimes he’s a golfer
The Loop Ranch. A railfans' dream property.
lol
They closed the gate.
Glad to see a project undertaken being finished to the end. Sure many folks will appreciate the safer vantage point to view the trains. Hope the idiots with the spray paint cans and having way to much time on their hands do not harm it.
These idiots demonstrate that it is always easier to destroy than to build. 2021/08/06. Ontario, Canada.
Think you were the first RUclipsr to shoot a video since it was finished? Great vantage point.
Great video, Mark. The new viewing platform is a welcome and needed addition. They did a fine job.

They're doing great job. Thank you sharing Mark.
Love this,thanks
Thats awesome that they were able to make the overlook happen!

You did a superb job on this video Mark. Really did enjoy it. 👍👍👍❤️
looks like a great place to spot trains. Being in NH thats more of a semi tropical jungle in summer it looks freakin hot and dry there

It's so cool to hear from folks in other countries who visit our neck of the woods and I always love hearing that you've checked out my channel!
I have been hoping you would do a video on this Mark. Thanks
I aim to please!
The overlook is very nice and keeps rail fans off the tracks. Refrigerator unit train a different sight up there. Nice!

Hey Mark how goes it? Another great video.
It's going smoothly! Thank you!
@@MarkClayMcGowan hey Mark, do you see Bruce S. at all? If so tell him hi for me. He was our lead man on SP-TI 608 GANG
Good work!! Curious how many trains are there a day,
This line sees roughly 35-40 trains each day
It varies. Mondays are maintenance window days and few trains run during daylight hours. We were up there Saturday and saw zero trains all morning. Other days they're running nose to tail. It's always a crapshoot.

Nice video Mark, I was up there a few years ago for the first time, pretty amazing stuff, unfortunately some bad vato's tagged the plaques ;-(
I'm sure it will happen again but the good locals are pretty good about cleaning it up.
And didn't they just have a fire there
Yup, he mentioned it. See the video on the Tehachapi Live Train Cams YT website: ruclips.net/channel/UC6RIkXobtXWJElbwEHIC-sg

At the risk of sounding selfish, that big tree in the center of the view got to go. If not cut down completely, trimmed li down to below the overlook.

Who's going to sit there to watch the cement dry before the neighborhood kids and 20 year olds decide to carve into the wet cement
It's dry and no carvings!
Not much parking as always
Stobe the Hobo referred to it as the FNBS and never liked the Railroad because they were too Slow.
