Solder the PL259, you can’t be sure of a good connection, causing noise in the receiver and potentially reduced transmission power (and over heating in the transmitter). All antennas should be outside of the cabin and as high as possible. Any cable entries into the cabin should be via vertical surfaces to reduce potential pooling of water and seepage.
Great install. When.you finalize your pl-259 dont forget to seal it properly both using shrink hose and electrical tape on.the outside. Also, solder the shrink connections for extra good connection. Hälsningar från North Carolina
Thanks for sharing. I was really waiting for this kind of stuff. It seems doable, so I could mount it myself. 😊 It looks like a sign of a jurney is coming soon? 😉
not soldering the tip is particularly dangerous to a device that transmit such as the vhf antenna connection on ais, as a poor transmit connection can cause tx power to reflect back into the electrical device and burn it out. if its just rx such as gps ok temporarily.
I wanted to suggest an AIS a couple of videos ago when you asked what to add to your boat, but I did not do that because I thought it would not fit your budget. Maybe the cables are this long because it's better to put the antenna and GPS sensor somewhere high up ? 🤔
That would have been a good advice for sure! AIS was one of the first things on list :) I guess thats true about the antenna. Still think the protected way is the best way though :)

The doghouse antenna should be fine, there are so many satellites to choose from it is unlikely that it could not see the minimum to get a fix.
I believe that all AIS transponders can be put into "silent" mode (receive only). Great video!
WoooHoo....First Comment....I love your channel! Glad to see you are kicking AIS and getting your AIS in gear!
Lol! Kicking AIS…
Yey 🥳
Glad you like my stuff Gybsy Cat!
AIS is the best!
I wish you the best! Belchertown - Massachusetts - usa.
Nice!
You have to get good at soldering. No vinyl tape.
Hope you keep the GPS cable long until you actually test it at sea.👍✌️😊🙏🏼⛵️⛵️⛵️

Glad you like it 345turk!
If i can mount one. You can do it aswell ;)
Yepp! Journey is comming closer for sure...
Don't forget to solder the connector onto your coaxial cable. It will corrode and cause problems if you don't. MH

Thanks for Good info Hayden! It is done now. So hopefully its gonna work properly from now on :)
Cause Poor SWR for AIS transmitter

No soldering iron, try heating a screwdriver on the stove hold it with the solder and a bit of flux to solder the joint etc,
Amazon links would be useful
How would you connect the system to your smartphone

Låter minst sagt mystiskt... Och väldigt trevligt :)
Men ja, en AIS mottagare är nog bra!
:)
How do you keep that things from publishing your position everywhere including the internet?
Well, i guess the only way would be to turn it off. Or only get a reciever :)
Is AIS VHF reach primarily line of sight?
Yes. As far as my experinces go atleast :)
I thought it might be. Mounting it lower makes sense then.
What does :) mean?
How. Much was the system
Wow. That. Much 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
About 1200 USD :)
…nearly as much as the boat!
