Swivel Seat, Cylinder Mounts, Cab Mockup - 6x6 Forwarder Ep.10

- Building a 6x6 mini-forwarder. In this video I'm finishing steering cylinder mounts, fabricating swivel seat mount, fully welding the rear half of the center pivot and starting mocking up the cab. Why build a forwarder? As a small forest owner I spend a lot of time maintaining the forest by hand (bush cutter, chainsaw etc). Using this forwarder also as a harvester in the future will reduce the work load tremendously. Not to mention maneuvering between the trees will get much easier with a purpose built vehicle. I still use my homemade 4x4 UTV but a combination of UTV and the timber trailer is a bit bulky and awkward in the tight corners and while reversing into tight spots. So there you go - a mini forwarder build.

@@DonnDIY Donn, your engineering skills are amazing. I love to watch you work and how you never seem to miss a detail.
This is good old craftmanship, all those crazy straight cut with the anglegrinder are impressive!
Your fabricating skills are extremely impressive
You, Sir, are an artist with a grinder and a welding machine😳
I wasn't the only one who saw him casually cut that laser straight line then 😅
I have an angle grinder here. It's not that easy.
The seat passed the most important test. The coffee drinking position.
But, can it hold him, the coffee AND a sandwich?
A most important position. 👍
@jeepanimal2943 time will tell
😂
I like watching you work Donn and figuring things out as you go along. Thank you for sharing and God's many Blessings to all.
Looking very nice and strong...top job mate👌
Fantastic job Donn, it's looking better each video. Thanks for taking us along. Hope your family is doing well. Fred and family.
This is coming along quite nicely, always a pleasure to watch your work and your creativity. Great video as always, cheers :)
Hi Donn you are one of the best engineer & fabricator i have seen in a long time ** thanks you **
I have been watching your RUclips Channel form the first sawmill you built again Thank You
Сварочные швы просто ЗАГЛЯДЕНИЕ!👍
ага
Nice work Donn! It’s coming along really well 👍 I may have missed what you are doing for brakes on this, but I would suggest a drive line brake, the drive line brake I did on my Articulating dump truck works amazingly well. I still have hydraulic discs up front but I’m pretty sure the line brake is doing 80% of the work. Good for parking brake as well 👍
Take care Donn 😊 thanks for bringing us along.
Good to see you here, Mike = ) He is a bit of a lad, isn`t he ! Let`s just hope he doesn`t need a 27mm NPT fitting !
Don I can't express how impressed I am by your constant skill evolution in fabrication. I have a family member that runs 25 log trucks, Dozer, Tigercat forwarders, Slasher and Chipper. The work you do out of your little home shop is every bit as good as the fab and maintenance we have to do in those full size units. Excellent job Don!!!
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘💘💘
You have creative skills! 💯👍
Who else was waiting for the welds to break while drinking the coffee.
Was glad that they held.
This just goes to show that Ace Ventura is the peak of human culture!
Loving this thing!
Thank a lot, another great video 👍👍👍👍
Looking awesome, I'm watching this build very exciting! Great workmanship!
항상 감탄하며 잘보고 있습니다.
👍
Great progress. Look forward to the updates.
Thank you for sharing Donn.
Great video
Donn, you are a helluva craftsman and excellent welder. You doing excellent work!
Like sawage with grinder and this is the way!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I'm loving it!!! 👌👍
Such an incredible engineer & fabricator
Вы мечта перфекциониста. Привет из Барнаула
Just keeps getting better/better with each new video. Great content. 👍
Beautiful, beautiful work! What beautiful welds!
Complimenti, i tuoi progetti sono sempre interessanti
You Sir, are an outstanding fabricator. Amazing results.
Hello Donn good job well done
MM77 Approved 👍🏼 👍🏼
👍👍👍😀
I hope that seat bearing is strong enough for the task! 😂
Heavy duty Donn 👌🏻🙌
Phenomenal build. Your fabrication skills are over the moon. Very nice work. Can't wait to see the finished working porter.
It's likely too late to make the suggestion for the seat frame. But leaving the riser that the seat is attached to on the cross bar able to be removed might at a bit of complexity but if the front drive differential needs to be serviced or replaced, it wouldn't be as near a task to cut welds rather than unbolt pieces.
Looking forward to more updates on this project, thank you for bring these out for the rest of us to follow.
Дядя, ты крут!
Very very good.
Super!!!
Как всегда всё на высоте. Спасибо. Донн всего тебе самого хорошего.
Following this build from Maine, USA
Your welds are beautiful, I wish I could weld like that. Thanks for the video. 👍
See you next time, cheers 👍💪✌
Nice doohickey!
Always creating yourself new challenges and obstacles. 😉
That steering yoke was pretty complicated. Normalizing for stress relief would have been something that I would have considered for such a vital part.
Very nice work !!! It looks amazing ....I like the seat mount and swivel very nice touch !! It is coming along nicely !!!👍👍
The seat is in the sweet spot and your tack welds held secure enough that you felt confident to hold a hot beverage too.
Cab is going to be tight but it will be in DP’s words, functionable.
Car wheel bearing for the win! Cheap and heavy duty.
Very interesting build, some amount of work involved, and time...
You always make such interesting builds. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with design as you go either... I do that more than drawing up plans most of the time. Works for me... Thumbs Up!
cant wait to see the cabin layout man :)
Last week I finished my project with this steering system.
Very good
Having subscribed to your channel, and watching your videos...I can only assume that you are a machinist and fabricator by profession. 🤔🤔
18:44 that's the Aura
I would love to send Donn some parallels for his mill. After watching him drill those plates on his milling machine. He needs some.
Cheers
Вподобайка.
As always, I can leave a like before watching :-) That mount looks very sturdy. I am enjoying the build.
Very nice video. Thank's. Hello from Belgium.
Super wie immer
Looks very well made. I cannot wait for my ClampMill I ordered from Nature Tools.
Ok thanks
I would put the seat more to the right or left not to the center then you rotate to the back only from one side but you have much more space to do that, more comfortable.
Very cool design.
I have seen some wheel bearings like the one you are using that need the tension of the shaft and nut through the center to clamp the bearing races together. I don't want your seat falling off!
👍👍👍!!!
👍
Thank you for your great craftsmanship once again . You could use an old brake disk under the seat base and a handbrake caliper to lock it in position while driving , otherwise you'll be swinging back and forth with the terrain. Will you be using a dumper truck steering box to operate the steering hydraulics ?
Here in Tasmania valmet 6x6 forwarders in forestry and plantation operations had diamond style chains that wrapped around the front single wheels to stop staking tyres and on the back axles they had tracks that linked together on the sides with chains and a double cleated grouser bar that was formed to come up both sides of the tyres about half way and ran across the tyres they ran around the back axles similar to a much heavier duty set of tracks as in used on cargo skid steer amphibious vehicles they added weight down low to lower chances of roll over on side hills n in holes but more than doubled the places the vehicle could go plus way more puncture resistance or staking while this set up will wreck roads and driveways workshop floors etc it more than makes up for it in the bush when working as it allows them to climb up over rocks logs deep bog holes etc id also put a bit of chain or two above the wheel tread to both stop the grouser plates from laying over and side ways sliding resistance on back axles I hope you can picture the set up im talking of as it honestly worked well as I've watched the valmetz forwarders back up over rocks over 6 feet high and up over a 20 foot high gravel quarie face as a short cut to get another load of logs its an amazing sight to see a vehicle climb over 45 degree slope up a quarie face they went places even skidded feared to go at times but cut back your loads on steep ground to half or just over for safety love this project wishbyou well n thank you ever so very much for sharing
Very nice! I wonder if you could add some foot rests that swivel with the seat to make swiveling easier? Just something to hook your heels on whilst you spin. Anyway, looking forward to the next update.
👌🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Well If you going for some master classes one day .( future maybe)
You need to build a hotel first because you’ll haven’t got enough room.
They’ll will be flocking in from all over the world to get some tutoring of the man himself.
Wouldn’t that be something. 😂
Cheers and thank you for sharing your knowledge and fabulous work.
You should offset the seat to one side
I love These Progress!
But you really need an arcdroid cnc plasmacutter! 😅
He built his own plasma cutter
👏👏👏👍
Couple things, I believe you should lift seating position 20-30cm higher. You get couple benefits, you get more leg space and you get better view to outside and bed.
I'm a little surprised he isn't making it with a cab on scissor arms that will raise and lower.😄
👍👍👍👍👍👍🤔
Might need wheel spacers on the front, to give you a little extra foot room.
creative skills...tjek
Ты красавчик, делай патент на свои постройки
When are you making a video showing the manufacture of the piston?
🤟
Needs a cup holder, and a heater :)
Needs more kickflip. 😉👍
18:30 en coulissant le siège vers le max le risque de rupture des supports est grand
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🦾
Молодец! Станок токарный, как я вижу, 1К62?
Haven't heard anything about an engine yet. I have to assume you are going Flintstones style.
What kind of engine do you gonna use for this project?
And also, really nice work! Following you and this project with great happiness!
for a moment i thought you were about to add another 50 - 75mm to the seat post height.
At 4:27 will the steering cylinder get Ent if it’s over extended?
Don, nice build:). What engine and transmission are you going to put on?
I am wondering what the power pack is going to be?
What engine to use? And where put him.
Can you show what grinding disc you have on makita ( this red one) like always awesome video
