This was the performance where things started to turn around for them in a BIG way. From this point, every other competitor knew that this little group from Texas was to be taken seriously. Sonos is actually the only professional group from this season's competition that is actually still together, although they go by a different name now. Avi actually dated one of the girls in Sonos for quite some time after meeting her during The Sing Off. It's funny how you said Kevin looked like a child here, he was actually the oldest member of the group and was already 23 at the time. Yes, the original Buggles version of this song was very electronic and robotic. This song is historically important because it was the first music video ever played on MTV the day the network first went on the air. You're wrong in saying that everyone in the crowd thought that the song was over when the standing ovation happened. They were reacting to what was happening because no other group on the show had delivered any kind of a punch like that up to that point. From this point on, with only a couple of minor exceptions, they just got better and better.
Before this performance, I was absolutely rooting for a different group (whose name I can’t even remember, now, but it was a bunch of college music dorks with no women). I didn’t quite start rooting for Pentatonix yet, but they definitely made everyone sit up and take notice right here. They were becoming the front runners.
Man. I have watched this dozens and dozens of times (including when it aired), and you just added depth to my understanding. I love the awareness you bring to the specific things Avi & Kevin are doing!
Video Killed the Radio Star was one of most favorite performances. They killed (pun intended) it and I think they sealed their fate with this song. Great reaction!
****NEWS ALERT***** KO was on the CMT AWARDS LAST NIGHT CELLOBOXING WITH BOYZ II MEN HONORING CHRIS STAPLETON!!!! Just search CMT AWARDS and you'll see it! Sean says in the recap part of the next episode that PTX made themselves skip like a record player. I think that's really cool. Great reaction!!
They killed it! Even making the track skip at the end there. Unreal. That they could come up with such an inventive version so quickly, is impressive. But then, what else is new? Thank you for the flashback!!
Arora, stylized in allcaps with the first R backwards, and formerly called Sonos, is a vocal band based in Los Angeles. Sonos originally grew out of a 2006 recording project and began performing and touring in 2008. The group's repertoire centers on vocal covers sung a cappella with the use of effects pedals. (Wikipedia)
That other group was called SONOS - they later changed their name to ARORA. And as for love... well, Avi ended up dating one of the women in that group for a while. :)
I appreciated your reaction and your laughter. I see PTX performances bring you joy. That is worth everything. They give me joy as well. I'm always impressed by how they don't just think only of themselves, but think of others as well. Rare in our young people today. Thank you! I'm loving your reaction to "The Sing Off" performances.
Loved your reaction to this one - their performance was so much fun to watch and hear, and your reaction made it even more fun! Thanks so much for this one!!
Yes that group's name is Sonos. What is hit upon here the most is what Sean said about them pushing the envelope outside the traditional; PTX did more than that; They put A Capella into the mainstream and continue with their greatness today. It's been a great ride for me watching them from the beginning in the Sing-off to the present. On the other hand you have some more PTX Sing-off performances to go through. I will once again enjoy watching another reactor become more impressed as the show progresses. 👍
It's fun watching these Sing Off performances again with you. I loved when you would rewind to watch and comment on certain parts. Those seemed to be my favorite parts too.
I remember the song coming out (oops, showing my age! ) The original vocals were sort of distant and distorted, like the voice was on the radio and the music was in the room
One more performance, the Britney Spears medley I believe, before you see the first performance of the Pentatonix we all know and love. There are three performances during the Sing Off that almost everyone points to as being their best during this competition...mostly because there's no real consensus on which one is THE best. The first of those is two performances away. This song, Video Killed the Radio Star, was a lot of fun. It showcased a few little things PTX does very well. And, seeing how much you enjoy seeing them perform as "babies" ( lol ) is always a lot of fun, too. Thank you for doing this one. Can't wait for you to see the next few!!
This song was the first video EVER on MTV back in 1981!
"Video Killed The Radio Star" By The Buggles was the first ever video played on MTV
Oh wow I didn’t know that 😲
Sadly, I remember it clearly
@@chasiegrisaffe5867 me too
Me too
Scott: “They’re what we want to be.” Everyone in 2021: “Who’s Sonos?”
That is hilarious.
I bet they're big fans, though!
@@RosheenQuynh No doubt. 😉
This is the first song that was every performed on MTV.

All my reaction hoppers, he’s almost to the real fire. Getting excited over hear. 😂
They dissed their own dancing and said they wouldn't dance in future performances.

I discover the group by accident on RUclips with this video in 2012 or 2013 maybe and I fall in love with this group 🥰
Love these reactions to the sing off! You do so well on these! 😁😁😎
You doing "The Robot" through half the video was everything!! 🤣🔥❤🙂 Excellent reaction!
Lmaooooo

This is the one that pretty much set them up to win.
