💚 And as always, a huge thank you goes out to The Brotherhood: / brothersmake
We found a discarded wooden side table next to a skip outside our workshop. Instead of letting it go to waste, we thought we'd try our hand at upcycling it by giving it a bit of a makeover. We refinished the outside of the table and added a brand new top made from 100% recycled plastic. Since we were feeling fancy, we also added wireless phone charging functionality. We are pretty confident that this little table would fit nicely inside a modern home. We literally turned trash into treasure!

What is the black plastic you used when melting
LOVE what you do!!! ❤
As someone who has refinished the thrift store special on numerous occasions, use a clearcoat to finish! The paint can and will come off through wear.
You have the USB socket inches from the charging pad. You can just as easily plug the phone in directly once you have the cord going all the way there. Would have made more sense to have the USB go near the bottom of the pedestal and run up the inside to the charging pad. That way you would not have a dangling cord...
smarty pants. perhaps the way they made it is exactly the way they wanted it.
@@doreenwatson-read Nah, it's honestly a bad placement(for that one portion of the build). There's no strain relief at all and the cord is at a perfect tripping height and just sticking out, it will probably rip that USB port right off the board first time it's hit, then that circuit is useless and will require someone to unscrew the table to pieces and unglue it for any hope of repair. Inside the cutout and facing the USB port down, would mean it could easily unplug itself when yanked hard on, coulda been much more reliable and less an eyesore.
@@doreenwatson-read it's honestly a terrible design choice, i don't know how they pulled $500 out of the ether as a price for this. i like the recycling aspect, but my god do they need to actually think about their designs before they embarrass themselves with such an ill advised design choice of having the power cable both detachable, and at the perfect height for a tripping hazard. a design that had the power port near the bottom would have had better application, they could have even made the thing into a power splitter junction with a power port on each of the smaller faces for laptops, and then carved out multiple areas for the wireless charging, maybe even have a retractable cable assembly within the wider base, so the table could be placed at several spots in the home it hopefully went to. if a vacuum cleaner can have a retractable power cable, why shouldn't a table that could act as a social gathering spot for multiple people to charge their devices and converse in the meantime?
Awesome ! .. personally, I would have kept it with a wood finish ( a new wood finish) and colored top .. a mid century modern look
are the fumes this puts off not toxic.. i know you're not burning it but i was just wondering.
Yes I was wondering the same
I'm no expert but the boys have mentioned this in previous videos, I think as long as it's a well ventilated area and the temperature is not too high then the fumes are not toxic :)
Using the George Foreman grills gets up to a temperature that puts off little to no fumes and would be advised to have some outside ventilation going through your work area like a garage and a side door being open; and there's kn95 masks you can buy at stores if you are worried about contaminating your pulmonary system :) happy melting
Love the attention to detail in matching the beveled edge to the angle of the base.
How cool is reusing bottle tops and milk containers to make really nice furniture. Not as cool as EPIC EXTENDO DRILL BITS!! You sir are a genius.
you boys do so much, I wish you all the very best. keep going you are both doing great.
Bravo linking all those drill extensions 😂😂😂 i lost it
Good job, brothers!
If you are inclined to make a video about your encounter with the Malaysian mayor, then I recommend keeping it simple. Just talk into a camera with no editing, and let us know what his beliefs were before meeting, and what it took to get that meeting, and what long term outcomes you expect.
You guys should make recycled plastic jewelry. I’d love to own a set of bangles in that black and white marble pattern.
3:21 Mmmmm macro-plastic meatloaf 🍽
I use the containers for mushrooms as my snake hides, just cut an arch out with scissors, then use a fine nail file to soften the edges. The shorter sized containers, for water bowls. The large plastic quality street container for a moss box, I melt around hole where the Q is, with a souldering iron, no need for filing. Souldering irons are good for melting plastics, instead of trying to cut and end up spliting the plastics. Used the souldering-iron to melt air holes in heavy-duty storage box, yes for my snakes travel boxes.😁 My snake are spoilt. My husband also uses mushroom containers, and the clear same shaped salad containers (as a lid) for provacators for his plants.😁👍
You guys are so creative! Love it! Great job
Just watched my first video of yours. Immediately subscribed. Lots of plastic that is generated that can be recycled into useful item. Thank you.
Brothers! Have you ever attempted to make some keycaps out of plastic bottles? I haven't seen people made these yet!
A real piece of art 👍😊
Lol. 10:00 Been there, done that. 😄
I'd like to see more detail on the plastic types used, so we can replicate...
All HDPE 👌🏼
Is there anyway you guys could make an all plastic deck of cards
the wire should go out the bottom
It's plastic table top right? So how do you keep things from sliding right off it?
When cutting the soft plastic would a pizza cutter work without clogging up? This could be a quicker solution.
Birdy
Don't agree with your choice of chamfered edges think they made top look really thin and cheap but otherwise what a great idea. Having worked at granite company you should visit a local supplier they will have loads of little offcuts that they will normally throw away for a small fee they may cut and polish edges to size for you depending on how busy they are at the time.
Has anyone, @BrothersMake or other, tried using a "solar oven" (concentrated mirrors) to melt and reform plastic? Was thinking it might work to drip it through a solar oven chamber and on to a pan, especially since it could go through a planer after ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I enjoy all of these videos!
500 dolares solo tuvieron en consumo eléctrico para hacer funcionar las resistencias de esas maquinas que derriten el plástico. 500 dollars only had electricity consumption to operate the resistors of those machines that melt the plastic
Can you make a video about recycling plastic into pellets ?
Can you let me know what router you use. Thanks brothersmake!
This one was the Triton trim router 👍🏽
Very cool.
Wait. You put a wireless charger on the table, but you have a cable that goes to the wireless charger that's not even hidden? Why?
I hate to be that person but…
…you might well be safe online. But what about your personal physical safety?
Sanding without a mask?
Do you normally use one and this is just so that the camera can hear you?
5:54 I’m not trying to tell you what to do, but it does worry me that people are encouraged to copy the idea of recycling from watching your videos.
Just my thoughts… thanks for reading them if you get the time ❤
sorry guys... what were you thinking when you were adding that wireless charging pad...
you added hole at the bottom on the table... and then add wire on the side of the table...just WHY.... my mind is not happy with that decision at all....
No respirator while melting plastics or spraypainting?
Such a shame that all those grey lids were going to waste
that reminds me of how a stick of rock is made
I wish I could make 500 dollars with my crafts I don’t know how you did that, I can never get that much (really need it though)
This makes me think I could melt down old plastic and make guitar picks from it. 🤔
We have a video on that!
@@BrothersMake 😲 will look for that now. First time I'veseen your channel
Thanks for watching!
@@BrothersMake thanks for making something actually useful on the internet! 😎
Nice
can you make a fresbe
Can jou make army men or somting alike
Can’t pull out 2 foreman grills and a few bins of rubbish and say your making “luxury” furniture. 😂
Thesis again
4:03 ACK! ARGGG!!! So disappointed, I was watching you very carefully lay out the layered plastic and it was looking so nice, I thought we might see you trying something new where we would get black grey and white stripes. Then NO, twist and fold and twist some more, get rid of any carefully created patterning and turn it into the same old "marbling" as always. 🤬😢🙄
Brilliant. You guys are my hero. We should all get back to the "fix it" if it is broken or old instead of tossing it. The idea for the screwdriver was inventive.
Saludos desde 🇪🇨🇪🇨🇪🇨♻️ Ecuador, tenemos un proyecto igual de creativo como ustedes espero algun dia poder comunicarme con ustedes para compartir ideas!! Felicidades 🎉
There is absolutely no end to both of your contributions to using old plastic and making new useful things with it . I hope to continue myself in our small shop helping the local public with ID's and housing recycling plastic in Birmingham , Alabama . Thank you for the new ideas that I may put to good use also . Have a great day guys 😄
That's a great attitude. I hope that you can collaborate with somebody.
Great idea but definitely white spray paint makes it look like a quick home diy rather than a product for sale. A whitewash and a nice satin wood finish would look way more presentable!
Was thinking about all the black bottle lids. What about tiles for bathroom floor etc? 😊
That shape would make an awesome lampshade.
Gents; try using a proper carpet knife with a proper carpet blade. Be careful not cut yourself, but I think you’d see a big difference when slicing up the plastic.
will you guys go to indonesia?
Hello from the US love your work and I'm literally laying on a mate I created out of at home recycled bags
What is the material u use to put under and over the plastic before heating it up
it's teflon grill mats
You came really close to do damascus-looking plastic on this one! Could that be a futur project? -wink wink-
The time, energy, business costs to refurbish a table you would be lucky to get 30$ for is a depressing tale.
Can u use mica powders or some other coloring to color the plastic
thank you so much for what you're doing!!!! very exciting project!!
the marble effect turned out really well!
No offense, but I wiuld not pay $500 for a _tiny_ table made of plastic.
That's like marble territory.
Or, a handcsarved wooden coffee table made of Redwood Burl.
As a challenge, could you make a backpack made from recycled materials.
Please stop using hot glue for things that are supposed to be permanent. -- On a hot day the glue can reflow (even if it's not fully molten), allowing the parts to come loose over time, and eventually fall out. -- Heck, some of those chargers even generate heat in their own coils, and that could contribute to it coming lose.
Even though hot glue doesn't become molten until 120 degrees C (near the lower melting points of HDPE), it can begin to *reflow* at much lower temperatures; especially in an enclosed space where it's already generating heat. -- This is something I have experienced in my own projects. -- If you need the rubberiness of hot glue, I would recommend grabbing some E6000. Unlike hot glue it forms a chemical bond, but like hot glue, the final bond is very rubbery, and it has about the same feeling of strength and bounciness to it.
If you need something more rigid, use a strong CA "filler" glue. (The "filler" part is important; "filler" glues are more thick and will fill gaps, similar to the way hot glue does; but again, it's a chemical bond, instead of just molten plastic.)
Reaaaaallly thought you were going to create a larger surface. That table will barely hold a phone and a drink..
I like the channel and what they do. However, it is supposed to be about recycling. The black caps still have their retainer on. They are new caps. Kinda plays against the whole recycle concept.
lol he was confirming it was marijuana y’all and was def embarrassed when he got caught
Wow I’d seriously almost kill for your workshop & tools. If only I had the $$.
🤷♀️♥️♥️😎✌️
Nice work. Very clever.
Have you thought about potentially making a plastic urn??? I know that we already have plastic urns in crematoria - but they're always that God awful brown colour. If we can come up with a good way to make urns from old plastic, maybe we can have a more attractive way to display our dead as well as a way to create new decorations for out homes as well.
I love the idea of having more urns around me that I can use to keep things like coins in. I'm just not sure how to get the basic shape right without resorting to expensive equipment, which I don't have.
But here's a question, whats the energy consumption rate for turning junk plastic into a useable plastic again? Some of the conversion methods seem energy prohibitive over first use plastic.
That extendo drillbit was hilarious LOL, another beautiful piece!
Also, I'm curious if you plan on making any videos about lighters? I've been obsessively collecting them for many years now and plan on making a gargantuan functional lighter sculpture out of all of them, but don't know the material and don't really wanna use that many external sources of adhesion
So we go from forbidden paninis to forbidden toffees
Amazing work.
making tent please from doritos plastic
very cool. I want a friend that can give me "seconds" plastic!
You guys should make glasses that optometrist can mount prescription lenses in.
Which wireless charger did you use?
How fun! And efficient!✌️🏻❤
What do you line the grilles with?
Whats the strength like of HDPE in say bed frames? maybe even the slats? might be something to explore, lots of new families out there looking for environmentally sustainable n affordable essentials.
It should be pretty good considering they've made benches and similar pieces of furniture out of them. (at least I think they did, I know they made benches out of covid masks but that's a different type and seemed to work great)
The top is so pretty ❤
How food safe is this plastic? Could you make food cutting boards like this? Maybe seal or coat the boards to make them safe?
I don't think plastic cutting boards or even containers are ever safe. Cutting on it creates microplastics people eat.
Plastic degrades. Especially when microwaved.
Cut on a ceramic plate.
Try to avoid nonstick pans too.
97% of Americans have pfas in their blood.
There is a news video on the pfas flu where people cooking on nonstick pans inhale the toxic fumes off nonstick pans.
Watch Plant Chompers on pfas.
Where do you get your plastic and the mold ?
Check out PlasticPreneur.com - Mention code ‘BROTHERSMAKE’ for 5% off all machines and moulds 🤙🏽
Very cool!!!
Wow! Looks NICE!🥰
Thank you. I really appreciate your ideas and videos. You have my dream shop, wish I could come and play . . . er, I mean work, not play.😀
Though expensive I have been wondering if the tortilla presses I see when I go to Moe's would be better than the panini presses at least size wise. Wonder if the would get hot enough?
Hey can you use silicone molds ? For the diyers without all these cool molds lol. Also could you just cut the hdpe with a craft knife once it's cooled?
If people have a 3d printer I saw a short on someone recycling bottles into cords for his 3d printer.
@user-gu9yq5sj7c oh yes I've alse seen this! Very cool and great for our planet
I feel like you really should have either used the bigger side as the top, or had an overhang on the smaller surface. Looks kinda silly to me.
There is an overhang, but thanks 👍🏽
@@BrothersMake Also, to not just be negative, I should also mention that, significantly inspired by you guys, I am starting my own recycled plastic business here in Montreal.
Thanks for all the great information you provide, and the awareness that you bring!
How do you feel about adding some funky placemats to go along with your coasters on the shop?
What do you call that black non stick Film?..
It is probably called a silicone baking sheet.
Teflon
Love this ❤ memememe look nice in my flat living room ❤
Didn't watch all. BUT where did you get and Think someone would pay $500???????? Looks good granted But the price?????
Rich ppl go nuts over hand crafted items. Not to mention the added ego boost to be able to say they are saving the environment 😂
So many hours went into making that table, $500 is definitely worth their time
If they sold it for that much it’s because of their name. I couldn’t sell degraded plywood and recycled plastic for more than $75!
@@krisschaefbauer9577artists RARELY get paid by how much effort and time they put into it!
The video title is clip bait, it gets you commit and view. They are probably not selling it for 500.
the company you got the plastic from would not have "wasted" it, 1000%. it is sorted plastic and not used so they would/could sold it for a price to a recycling company that would make plastic pellets out of it and resell it to them or other companies. clean and sorted plastics almost always gets recyled. The used and unsorted plastic waste is the real problem and almost nobody can recycle it usefully. Thanks for listening to my TED talk.
The box was literally taken out of a skip
Sorry guys, not worth 500.00!
don't forget that youtube ad revenue as well lol
1000?
The original wooden table only cost 30 pound. 6:13
It's worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for it. It may not be worth that to you, but there's plenty of people with the resources to pay 500 and more. Plus their labor is worth something.
There is so much labor that is associated with this art! I truly enjoyed the creation of this and I think you both made a masterpiece! Well done!
Do u use mask doing this
