- Philippine Ballet Theatre president Marilou Magsaysay happily announced that the PBT has just been accorded a historic award as the national performing arts company for dance by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
While in New York with 18 of PBT's prime dancers for the world premiere of Ibalon, the company also received confirmation to becoming part of Ballet World, alongside New York City Ballet and the Italian Ballet Company. "The blessings keep coming," beamed Magsaysay.
On October 5, the PBT will showcase Excerpts from Ibalon (a Bicolano epic) and Excerpts from The Nutcracker at the La Guardia Performing Arts Center in Long Island City. There is a matinee at 2PM and gala at 6PM.
This is the third year for the PBT to perform in the Big Apple in partnership with the Foundation for Filipino Artists and major sponsors Dr. Lestrino Baquiran and Ms. Marieta Lamar.
Magsaysay said that PBT performances in NYC have now become an annual tradition with the growing enthusiasm of Filipino Americans. Next year, PBT will feature Sarimanok on world stage. (MM)
