    I think the advice for coaches not to "correct the chaos" is very insightful and worth following. I do, however, explain to my players that they've "lost their way" when the chaos gets too chaotic!

      Yeah especially the older the team is I like to try to let them figure it out as much as possible.

    Im coaching u8 for the first time and your videos have been very helpful in helping me understand the game and translate to my team. The only issue i'm having in adapting a lot of choreographed tactics is our 8u is 4v4. Could you do some more videos covering basic beginners strategy for 4v4? It would help be extremely helpful for me. Keep up the good work, what you do makes a difference for a lot of kids. Thanks coach!

      Sure! At u8 mostly it’s about spacing. 4v4 you’d like to have them in a diamond.

      In a diamond? Interesting. Thank you for your reply, I know you're a busy man!

      @@colbybogle6785I am coaching a U8 team this spring. I am also doing a diamond. We have a defender, a left and right mid, and a forward. Here’s how I’ve adapted some BOTB patterns:
      The left mid (assumes kicking toward the right) is going to kick the ball and then move up into a supportive space. The defender goes where they would according to the 7v7 patterns. The right mid gets wide all the way to the sideline. The forward moves just a bit on our half, in between the middle and right sideline.
      Pattern 1: left mid passes the ball to the defender who takes his space. Defender passes out wide to the right mid. (Left mid should begin to move as that pass is made and the defender didn’t lose the ball.) Right mid to forward to small goal. This can obviously be switched to the left side with the midfielders switching roles and everyone shifting over.
      Pattern 2: Same starting spots. Left mid to defender who sees the open lane to the forward to small goal.
      These mimic the passes of Coach Rory’s 7v7 patterns. However the other midfielder takes on several of the other roles in one go. I think if executed well though, it works for the age group, field size, and 4v4 play style.
      I’m going to work on these two a lot with the boys before I attempt adapting pattern 3.

    As a new coach, coaching a U7 has been fun. I’ve been just working on improving the basics. Touches, dribbling, and spacing. As you know they all want the ball at the same time. Lol if you got some time, can we get a few 4v4 videos.? We appreciate you and your wisdom. Thank you

    Hi Coach Rory, really appreciate these helpful videos. Would you consider talking about building up “mental toughness” and “aggression” for 9-year old?

    Thanks Coach. I was wondering why do the 'across ball' at the end of the cycle rather than just do up-back-through at each side of the box? Just thinking it might be easier for the kids to grasp. Thanks.

      It’s funny that’s one of the progressions. You can absolutely start with that as well. If your focus is switch point of attack I usually start with the scores ball though.

    One thought: You can let them make overlapping runs through the center of the inside box to get to the "Up" cone. that way they don't interfere with the passing pattern.

    Is there any way you can do a build up and finishing for 11 v 11.

    • @CoachRorySoccer
      @CoachRorySoccer  3 месяца назад

      Sure. There is some 11v11 build up and attack on the 4231 formation series. But I could certainly do a more generic session exercises for 11v11 on those two topics.
