- Here at MWC 2024, Telekom showcased a concept AI phone that has no apps. Instead, you will use AI to do everything that you would normally do on a smartphone. Is this what the future of smartphones will look in the next decade or so? Says it isnt a concept and is really running, but then says that someone else had to show the demo. To me sounds like a well rehearsed concept demo that only can do what the demo conversations need
While i see the positives for this. Sometimes I just wanna window shop, its those intangebles that an AI is never gonna help you with. Like when you go onto amazon looking for a video game and end up somewho with a TV because it was on sale for a great deal. An AI is never gonna recommend that to you as you were not looking for it.
may be, or may be not ! bcoz advertisement can never go away since it is a major source of income for most of platforms be it e-com or social media or even a search platform.. so I feel that ads & recommendations will always be there...

You think I'm just gonna ask something vague and then pick from the few things it shows me? What if I want to use Amazon because I have Amazon prime for free one or two day shipping? Am I gonna have to write a speech every time I want to do something with my phone? And what if I don't want people around me to hear what I'm doing? If everyone starts controlling their phone with voice commands, everyone's phone will be reacting to the voices of other nearby people. With a touch interface, I can do whatever I want to do because I already know what to do. Also, this AI is most certainly gonna show me what they or the companies who pay them want me to see. Besides, I don't like talking to people, you think I want to talk to my phone?
What if it already knows you have an Amazon prime and based on that it displays those results, and what if it analyses the difference between Amazon vs something else which have a better value.

Don't trust it, whoever writes the AI could easily make it biased to only show you results they want you to see or products and companies they get paid to promote. It's just too prone to manipulation.
💯 plus imagine when you start using it to replace news and social media feeds, it could be even more manipulative than the poison that's getting peddled now.
One central place that can have it's own biases rather than individual companies? I'll pass.
Why not just make it a launcher which is based on this AI app and you can still ask the other apps if you want to? Why does it have to be a dedicated phone?

My life doesn’t revolve around shopping. How do i get medium stories if i don’t have the app. And imagine everyone going around shouting on their phones.
You do know that was just an example? Your path may not be as long to get you where you need.Maybe you’ll only need it to get you to instagram. Perhaps maybe while on instagram you see a news story that piqued your interest. You ask for more stories or related stories to verify the validity of what you originally saw. It’s simply a means aka a path to another source of information aka an end.
It's a good idea. A phone like this would be useful for me because I don't use many apps. I'm not a gamer and I don't use social media apps at all. I hardly take pictures. But I do like to search for products. 🤔
This is so impractical. I don't wanna have to text a chatbot to do simple things that I can do with a couple taps and swipes.
I'm not saying it's never gonna happen, but I'm not about to trust AI for financial and work-related tasks.
I also hate how this trend of adding an AI layer to the actual information is further abstracting us from sources of information instead of making it easier for us to verify accuracy and consider biases and other context.
This is like Wikipedia but 1000x more obscure and dangerous, precisely because it puts the onus on the user to ask the right questions instead of researching and learning as you go along.
A future where websites are all glorified databases designed for AI to parse instead of for humans to read, analyze, and verify is a recipe for disaster.
We're already riddled with robotic articles optimized to the gills for SEO where the actual useful info is buried under trash writing, keywords, and of course ads and referral links. But at least we can see and eventually know which sites do that and avoid them in the future.
Letting AI trawl through all that shit may seem convenient at first, but never underestimate the power of people to corrupt and game the system.
Just look at what Google has done to this very site. Imagine this kind of shit curation, linkbait, sponsored shit, and misinformation but for everything you want to do and learn about.
Great idea but the idea of having to talk to your phone everytime can be annoying
Wouldn't this make it impossible to use your phone in a library or to quickly text someone in a movie theate? How about on an airplane, would you have to scream at your phone over the engine noise? No thanks.

Conversational AI requires you to verbalize what you want and it's not the easiest way to find the information you are looking for.
It sounds a bit like Amazon Dash but for the whole internet. The assistant apps like Cortana on our phone should have been able to do this with bot integration but it didn't take off perhaps because of missing features or lack of awareness. If it works seamlessly like you see with Apple's ecosystem this could realistically work for some experiences.
To Google/ AI , first make apps work properly, automatically update them , secure all apps ( all games have fake and dangerous viruses in play store) .

its the billion verifications and passwords and codes sent to phone just to see your balance or having to log into one place just to log into another and another

chips are getting really good. Mediatek's recent partnership with Microsoft will ensure better generative AI and better privacy. so i think this might happen but not in a 10-11 years.

Yeah, I don't want to give up the functionality of my phone just to use what is essentially a virtual consierge service.
Don't lock it to a singular device, and just make it an app, in general.
Then it could take off. To plan to have it replace the whole device, either now or in the future, is hubris.
A smartphone isn't just a means to buy products and services, it's a miniature computer with all the benefits it brings. A lot of people who don't own a PC use it as their primary computing/productivity device.
To neuter most of its functionality to bring you the twisted lovechild of Amazon and Siri is what I'd consider tone-deaf. And perflectly encapsulates what companies would prefer their "consumers" to be.

Seems like very early promises of a very shitty and overhyped concept.
This basically is a perfect manipulation device. No wonder the concept is demonstrated with examples about shopping. Hate to see that human creativity gets wasted on such devices. I wish someone would invent AI tools that train humans to think more critically, verify sources, familiarize with different perspectives, think outside the box, regulate their emotions, understand reasons for their decision-making and behavior. This AI phone is the opposite of all that.

Honestly that's a pretty good idea. The idea for reviews and checking is cool, as long as it doesn't bias based on sponsored content. I also doubt it'll be profitable otherwise, as companies like Amazon have sponsored content so they would need to pay to access the API in some sort of way

Amazon Alexa already beat them on ai shopping so um crappy presentation. Phone already has google ai on it so um yeah….. If you want to present something more with AI, how about something a bit more challenging like having produce and render a game right there on the spot for the user and tailors it to them. Then creates a app for them and/or media of sometype that is unique to that user account only. Or something like it predicts what the user may need like the palm pre synergy did with contacts and conversations.

This is incredibly stupid, what will stop AI buying products which will give AI's parent company the most amount of commission instead of what I want?
Definitely not interested in having to depend on and rely on AI for everything. And the whole concept of having technology implanted into the body in the future is also something I'm gonna stay as far away as possible, so everything about this is a massive PASS, lol.

The AI will never have the capability to do everything. Having a no app phone will be pointlessly convoluted. And even then the ai could be programmed to have preferences you wouldnt agree with and make things harder or worse for you
