  • In this video I break down my Focus Stacking technique to show you how it can improve the quality and shooting possibilities for landscape photography. It is by no means a silver bullet for landscape photographers, so I spend some time discussing the pros and cons to the technique. Thanks for watching and take care.

    Durable post, James; clear and practical info. As I recall, you’ve covered this topic in prior vids. Have used focus stacking in macro shots using LR/PS - bumped up against a frame limit. Don’t recall the exact max but was more than 24.
    Vid indoor audio had bit of reverb, but still clear.
    Ever focus using “non-squint” method? Train brain to almost ignore non-dominant eye input. So, both eyes are open during the shoot - more comfortable.
    Best wishes for holidays and new year, guy🎉. Cheers!

      Thanks Paul. Yeah I’ve covered before but hopefully this video is a more concise and better coverage of the topic… I hope! Never tried that method before, will have to take a look at it. All the best for the new year and merry Christmas to you 😊

    That’s a great & simple way to describe how to focus stack James👍🏻
    I only have the option of manually doing this with my Canon 5DsR… careful frame & focus settings ate essential 👍🏻 A great vlog

    I have a z6 II and recently used the focus shift with my macro lens. I don't normally try to use the focus shift for landscape but it's nice to have for detailed macro images. I can manually focus stack for landscape. I haven't figured out how much of an interval for the distance to use for the aperture I'm at. I'll have to experiment with it.

    Well explained info Jim. Question, why is that stream and banks so prestine? Quite spot? Wish I could figure out where I placed my architectural tripod head. I remember saying at the time that I'll never remember... Since you're using InstaMask, what if you selected the water and added a blur, as if you had taken a long exposure?

    • @JamesBrewphoto
      @JamesBrewphoto  Год назад

      Thanks! Yes the particular spot is very quiet and hard to reach so pristine. Blending water is easy enough provided you capture some movement in the exposure. Faster shutter speeds which freeze the water can make the blending a bit more tricky potentially

    Hi James,
    are you using 95mm Kase filters on your Nikon Z 14-30? Do you know if 82mm is too small for that lens (I'm fine with 16mm, don't use 14mm that often)?
