After nearly 66 trips around the sun, it is rare that I am treated to new music that speaks to me. The tones, melodies, lyrics, and intangibles are all here. The Gretch guitars sound so freaking good, and the Telecaster is pure country! Orville Peck can sing! His unique lyrical style and sensibilities catch my ear and don't let go. I'll be listening to more of Orville Peck.
hi. gay dude here who grew up loving country music but not feeling the love from the country music community. thank you, orville. you are needed right now.
Straight dude here. I always wanted to be a country super hero that dressed like the people on Hee-haw and had a mask. Moved to the city and got bullied for wearing all my country clothes in elementary. So I kind of see your point from the flipside. ( maybe only a little though) Orville smells because he's the shit.
Josh Reitz I couldn’t tell at first if you were being serious or sarcastic, but I’m pretty sure it’s the former. Vilification is vilification to any degree, as in your case. Orville’s bringing it back. Hop on the bandwagon and be your best cowboy.
A modern crooner singing old school sounding country music with a voice similar to Elvis/Roy Orbison/Chris Isaak who also plays a Gretsch!? Sign me up! Dammit, dude; you better go far!
He will! He's walking the road that was paved by the greats before him. He's also defying normal pop country by singing and writing about real stuff thats not trucks or coors light.. So he stands out and i think that people are going to naturally be curious
Yeah, KEXP vids always blow my mind. The lighting, the mix/audio engineering, & the artists they platform as well as the conversation sought by the host….. All of it, the whole package is fantastic!
I am someone who only likes old country from the 40s and 50s. I DESPISE new country, but this man right here is awesome. He's got some old sounds, with some rockabilly, punk, indie vibes? It's awesome, he's the only newer country artist I care about. Seeing him live in June, so excited!!
All the elements of his image separately are apalling for me, yet he brought it together in a way that is irresistible. That's how it works when someone is a true artist. And his voice is out of this world.
Every time I think I don't like country music, an artist like Chris Issak, Roy Orbison and now this genius makes me rethink my whole take. These KEXP concerts are just outstanding!
I'm a dude trying to start learning how to sing and I'm a baritone discouraged by how many tenor singers are out there now and it's encouraging to see this guy killing it with my range.
Hey Never become discouraged regarding your tone, ( Baritone) Elvis Presley was a true Baritone and well, do I really need to say anything more? ELVIS!!! Man, Baritone!!!
What just happened? That dude rancher shits talent. “Turn to Hate” hit me like a ton of bricks. Powerful AF. Twin Peaks meets Cowboy psyche pop with a side of spaghetti western. ❤️
Isn't he wonderful? I discovered him about a year ago and am so glad I did! Hope you've been able to listen to the rest of his music, watch the videos. I really love his Queen of the Rodeo video, and the vid for Summertime is really fantastic, and a bit psychedelic :)
It is a true shame that Orville does not get the recognition he deserves from the country music industry. Some radio stations won't even play his stuff. How prejudiced can you get.
Few months ago I saw this performance in my “up next” after watching another set from this channel. The thumbnail intrigued the shit out of me, and now, I’m a die hard Orville Peck fan. Thanks!
hi. straight dude here who never cared about country music. orville is simply mind-blowingly amazing. my favorite modern solo artist for sure. what a creation.
Yeah I personally think your just not a fan of "Bro Country" aka the trash you hear on the radio. Try diving deep into the classics from the highwaymen and dolly parton
Man that curtain can sing!
Lol
LOL! True!

Thank you for the laugh.
Great post!
I feel like we need Orville to cover Fade in to You by Mazzy Star.
Andrew Price that would be.. it would be amazing
or the Catherine zeta jones song
from workaholics.

I think that would blow all of our minds. It must be done

I definitely thought of The Smiths, specifically that song's crooning vocals and soaring guitars
You win
@@DoomOrb Right? I thought Chris Isaak and Roy Orbison. But there's definitely some Mozza in there.

Orville saying “yeehaw” before the guitar solo in Turn To Hate gives me life
It's honestly the best part of Turn to Hate
Me: "Man, country music sure has gone to shit."
Country: "Here, have a sad gay lamp."
Me: "MY HAW HAS BEEN YEE'D!"
Never before has my Haw been So Yee'd 😭🤣🤣🤣
🤣
KIN
"sad gay lamp"
im dying
I can't count the Peck comment sections I've seen you in with the gay lamp comment lol
Just discovering this guy. What a completely gorgeous voice.
I hope one day Orville Peck can do the soundtrack to a David Lynch film. It would be a match made in noir.
Came here to say the same!
he signed off flawlessly with that “yeehaw.” kill me.
We need Orville again in KEXP. Now with Bronco

checks out. Orville is the truth. Would highly recommend seeing him live oh my oh my oh my
Funny! I was feeling Chris Isaak too!
Good ear on hearing Orbison 👍🏼
N A the Man in Black is missing from that mix
His slide from head voice back down to chest is so perfect
I bet David Lynch or Quentin Tarantino would love to write a screenplay around the "PONY" album. I can already practically see it in my head....
Yes he has such a lynch sound!
I can hear him playing on the Road House. That was my first impression
the masked cowboy stealing hearts around the world
the mix on this session INSANELY good, holy cow
except the inaudible 2nd singer...
Yeah, KEXP vids always blow my mind. The lighting, the mix/audio engineering, & the artists they platform as well as the conversation sought by the host…..
All of it, the whole package is fantastic!
I'm late to the Orville Peck party but I feel really lucky recordings like this exist on here. What a magical mystery tour this was! ♥️
Best musical discovery in a looooooong time.
As a 63 year old, straight man, and alternative and classic rock fan, all i can say is damn... blown away, and so impressed!!!
Me too and I’m older than you!! Who’d a thunk it!
Roy Orbison... resurrected.
@@DiddleyBoh thank you, that’s how I feel when I listen to him
lmao I'm afraid to ask why you thought it appropriate to specify you're a "straight man"
Thank you for clarifying. I was dying to know whether you're into dicks or puss or some combination of the two.
I never thought I'd relate Orville to Ian Curtis. Now its really apparent. The guitar solos on "Turn to Hate" bleed "joy division".
Fcking yeah
i absolutely see it. him holding onto the mic at the end of that song looked and sounded just like ian
YES!
Is true!!! Damn...

I love when Cheryl said "whistling through the fringe" at the end - that's a great song title he should use it..
one of the top singers anywhere. what a voice.
Could listen to him sing all day…
He's like gay Elvis in a lampshade. Absolutely incredible in every way 🎉
Listening to his music makes me feel safe
There is a long tradition of masked singers, glad to see someone keeping the tradition alive.

A friend turned me onto this today. I hear many influences but then there's a completely unique voice and presence. Super f**ckin cool.
dunno if i would say a unique voice, its almost carbon copy elvis, but its damn good music
you can swear on the internet, it's ok. watch this...

Love this guy and band. Incredibly well done. Gay old rock guy who loves the sound I'm living for this
What an exceptionally captivating voice. And the lyrics.. my god!
Totally freaked out by how much I loved this... 😬
Well colour me impressed. This is like if Ennio Morricone wrote the theme music for Twin Peaks and Bauhaus was in charge or production.
Karl MacKinnon Hey Twin Peaks! I though the same thing. Go Log Lady!
i got major twin peaks vibes, lol
totally
Yes, he has said he's influenced by David Lynch, the creator of Twin Peaks. Lynch has written some songs too.
Damn, these songs are really, really good. The overall presentation is full and complete.
Love that she opens wearing the cutest mask to introduce him :)
Such a great set~~~~~!!!!

this much great musicianship & songcraft, they won't be fringe for long.
