  • I have wanted to have a couple wind generators setup since we lived on the farm and I finally got my hands on one. Out on the farm I had plenty of wind, but here, I have found, it might be a problem.

A couple of decorative wind socks might be a cheap way of finding where the homestead gets good airflow.

Regardless if everything. A time spent like that with your little one is more precious than voltage. You had fun together. You enjoyed yourself and found out what you need to do. A life experience for you both and Dad rocks. Goodonya mate. Just bought one the same just for the fun too. Powers my boys shed lights and charges my mower batteries. Even charge my e bike. Take care. 🇦🇺👍

Came here looking for some tips for my Vevor wind turbine. One thing I noticed with your installation is that it's not high enough. I plan to install my in an RV for nighttime charging and I already have a 20 foot extension that ties into the ladder on the back. The 500-watt model is currently on sale for only $92 so I don't think too many folks are buying them.

You need an old antenna tower to get it above the tree canopy.

I’m sure you are aware the air is too turbulent for that type of wind generator less than 100’ in the air. Probably higher with all those trees. You might get a vertical axis turbine to work in a clearing. What a great time with your daughter though!

I read that article too; twice, and what I believe is that with anything below 6 kw, the 100’ suggestion is really not that big of a concern

Just a thought , I live on a hill also . I tried to follow the weather here , S/W Mich during summer and winter. Wind will follow tree lines. Dust, leaves in summer and fall , and where the drifts are in the winter !!! Pretty darn close pattern !!!!! Set my snow fence up for typical winds and it cuts down the drifts very well !!!!!! Might help you harvest any wind you do get ! Let me know if this idea works for you !!!!! God bless

I think that's the law of thermal dynamics, basically there is power loss due to drag, heating and inefficiency in the components. I wonder if your neighbors thought you gone off the deep end on this one!

Yeah thermal dynamics means you will use more energy then you get by hooking something up like a windmill to a golf cart.

2nd Law of Thermodynamics. Energy always goes from states of higher concentration to states of lower concentration, aka "entropy". "an isolated system's entropy will never decrease over time" If we look at a period of time while energy is being expended to move the vehicle forward, the energy recovered will always be less... due to entropy. All the friction, drag, electrical inefficiency and other losses in the system add up to the increased entropy. 'lost' usually as heat.

Fun family video! I just received mine and my biggest question was wiring to the Controller from Turbine. 3 blue wires to 3 blue wires and it makes no difference which one??? Also, I have plenty of yellow 12ga Romex wire but get the issue that the 3rd wire is unshielded ground so I might just get the 2.5mm three-core single wires as instructed to run through pipe. Just like Solar, it says that the battery needs to connect to the Controller first, then the turbine (since I might be connecting and disconnecting at times) so I'm thinking about using switches. Does all this sound reasonable? Thanks!!

Matthias Wandel would just put a fan in front of it instead of whole golf cart thing. Simple solutions.
But then he would also put air speed sensors all over the property and write python code to find out the best place for it. Haha.

12v at 1a is only = 12w and12w of charging is not much. As I'm sure you know, the voltage alone is not informative as to whether you will get meaningful charge. Hopefully you'll have more detail if you do a follow-up. Still - it was a fun vid and thanks for sharing :)

If it is producing 500w at full spin it should be more like 20-40 amps at 12V

Get yourself a istabreeze i2000 up on a TV tower and you will be seeing some real power ;) Haven't set mine up yet but they have really good ratings and make up to 2.4 kw at 30mph winds.

The law of perpetual motion says that the machine uses more energy than it can produce on its own; due to drag and friction. If you get it figured out and can overcome that, you will be a multi billionaire in free self-propelled user energy. Then cars can ditch the gas and plug ins for electric charging. God Bless

Didn't you know before the wind blowing there ?
Did you receive a wind meter with the wind generator ?
You can charge the batterij of the golf car bud you must have enough wind..

Conservation of energy - every action has an equal and opposite reaction. The drag on the wind generator will be more than the power that can be generated to run the cart (that doesn't include other wind resistance, friction, etc.). Only Wile E Coyote can get away with this physics problem. 😀

@@SSLFamilyDad I use the same Vevor turbine at a remote data relay station.....teamed up with a 360 watt solar panel. The charge controller does several things, it will brake the turbine if overspeed is encountered, will boost voltage to 24v when charging 24v batteries. I went to the 3 blade turbine to get more output, spins faster in high wind. Mine is on an 8ft pole but on a high treeless ridge, most you will get from this very well made $120. unit is around 100 watts. The PMA is very small, but is housed in an excellent case. I put more tail on it, to make it track better. The blades impacted the ground during a 50mph gust when I failed to ballast the standard it's based on. The turbine survived the high RPM crash to earth with out a scratch, blades did not snap!
