What a lovely video - it's so good to see the old girl earning her keep with some good old heavy stationary pto slog, and what a great sound of that two cylinder power-plant! Thanks for your time again, Wes.
I used to grind feed with an 1850 oliver and it worked great. our grinder mixer was a little bit bigger than your. this brought back a lot of memories.
Great video OLF I love to see the real tractors working not like the rubbish they make today please do more videos of the farmall and Deere working please thanks James. And hello from northern Ireland
Those old tractors just pull and work that's what they do I really love seeing them work I had my jubilee out yesterday doing some brush hogging by the road still 6 volt with the Sherman trans I restored her from the ground up I had 3 people stop and ask if it was for sale not a chance in hell I'm selling her love running these old tractors it's fun great vid the Deere was impressive
The old feed grinder brings back memories. When I was a little chap, my uncle lost the top of his finger in the grinder because he took the cover off and then turned it on and didn't stop it while putting the cover back on.
Do you throw any Hay into the grinder for fill? We always love the polled Hereford. They had NO horns which was best and they were like big puppies (especially the ones we broke) but even the wild ones were very calm compared to maybe an Angus or especially a Holstein.
my dad used to use his 720 all the time doing that it was our biggest tractor before he got out of farming in 1973 all he had was john deere he had A's , B's , G's and the 720
While reading some of the comments, a green light went off in my head, Job done stands for John Deere, LoL Nice Video , Keep them coming if and when you Can, always Nice to here from your channel.
Hey I just wanted to say I love you videos and wondered if you have ever thought about doing a video of the inside of your old dairy bar that you were in. They are always interesting to poke around in and it would be cool to get a tour of yours. Thanks!
My White 2-70 (same as Oliver 1655, about 70 HP) runs a Gehl MX120 just as well as that 730 does. Methinks the 1755 had more issues when you got it than had been disclosed.
gotta love your old JD's one thing they have is crazy torque. even my little Model L has a ton of torque and will out work any other 10hp tractor you find these days
The Old JD 2 cylinder's had more torque than horsepower. :D The old iron, best way to go IMHO but, then again, wouldn't have the luxury that we have in the newer tractors of today. I'd take a pair of 720's/730's diesels or gas, any day.
Hey Wes, I always have enjoyed watching your videos. I always have seen the kicker wagons and wondered, do you have a small square baler also and bale a lot of small square bales? Or did you just decide do to all the large for the mushroom farm. God bless you and your family. Thanks for all the knowledge and entertainment
Hi wes if she aint smokin you got some sleeping Deere in there L.O.L, she was working nice at that pace, would be a shame to crank it down some more, and wreck something. my buddy had a cranked up tractor on his mixer Used to wreck the mixer, so he stopped using that tractor never had any more problems. I bet that Deere would do the same with that torque ! Regards Robert .
Love seeing the 720 work. The two cylinders have tons of torque power. I'll bet your 60 would run it at a decent pace. My two cyl is a beast for a 50 (520). You should hook the 60 up sometime just to see.
I'm trying to restore my grandfather's 430 John Deere. All is good except for the sheet metal. It was rolled a few times, so it needs a hood, nose and hood mounts. Maybe I can dig replacements up somewhere.
that ol 720 sounds pretty good ,, it even has a pony start which I've always thought were cooler than electric start tractors it didn't seem to be working hard at all I'll bet my 1755 oliver wouldn't have trouble running that mixer/grinder 6-71T detroit power ,, helps A LOT with that ,,, I hated the waukeshaw diesel ,JUNK it had before
Uh oh I see a very bad thing... Someone left the clutch disengaged on the big Deere... Grandpa and Dad always taught me you MUST put the tractor in neutral and reengage the hand clutch when doing stationary work, or just idling the tractor... otherwise you'll burn out the clutch bearings in no time. They weren't designed to sit for long periods with the hand clutch disengaged. Otherwise looks and runs great! Later! OL J R :)
Allthough the 720 has "only" 59 HP, i really do think it has a massive amount of torqeu for that 59 HP. Don't know what the displacement is of that thing, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's more then that other tractor who couldn't run that machine? Like you American fella's like to say: There is no substitude for cubic inches. That's why my 1960 800 HP @ 380 revs Deutz will allways win from a modern engine of the same HP. It will never stop pulling, same as the good ol' JD 720. ;-) You should work those old beasts more often, Wes!
My little Deutz 3006 pulls harder than any 30hp tractor I've ever driven. It sips fuel while doing so too. Great little machine. A powerhouse for the size.
We had a steer, when I was growing up, that you couldn't keep in the pasture. Didn't matter what the fence was. If he decided he wanted what was on the other side, he went through it. We started with nylon electric. Worked great on the old docile milk cow. There were apple trees in our pasture. She didn't give a shit about what was outside the fence. Then we got this steer. We went up to steel electric. He went through it. We went to Triple strand barbed wire with two strands of steel electric. He still went through it. He'd make a run and hold his head up and plow through it chest first. I can't count the number of hours I spent smearing Rawleighs Salve on that silly bastard.
yeah one year our one unloader fell and that is not a nice sound hearing that come back down. we fixed the thing and it worked fine but never used it sence.
It doesn't matter what breed of cattle you raise they all will jump fences or get out its all in how they are raised and treated by the owner, I've raised Charolais all my life and never had a problem with them.
hope you guys wear ear plugs for ear protection................... i don't see ear plugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not good.... :( may i suggest everyone has disposable or their own sets to protect one's hearing... be safe & healthy!!!!!!!!!! also??? was that the tractor that your were going to rebuild???? just wondering...
I had 2 cows escape on me yesterday I was out in the back field brush hogging and my phone rang my neighbor is frantically chasing them while screaming at me to get out front to help they are smart little buggers
having trouble with the cows jumping the fence ,,, give them a shock they will never forget I have a 2500 volt fence to keep deer out of my garden ,, and my neighbor uses one to keep his goats from jumping the fence ,, it will give them a really good ZAP and they won't forget ,,although they might ,, cows lack a good memory for some stupid reason I know my dog won't go near it ,,, stupid dog lifted it's leg and peed on it ,,he got a good shock and I swear he jumped 4 feet in the air before yelping like he'd been shot in the ass and running screaming for the house
You have to raise the silo unloader to the top before you fill the silo with silage. Otherwise you have to pitchfork it all out by hand... Later! OL J R :)
That's amazing that that old girl can drive that grinder as well as that! Far be it for me to make comment to you with your experience but.............. generally the main problems with electric fences not keeping stock in following spells of hot dry weather is down to two main reasons: 1. the quality of the wire - poly wire stretches in the heat and the very small electric filaments break and you can't find the break. I find the multistrand the best. 2. The quality and size of the earth connection. Connections are often corroded (especially the crocodile clip types). the cables are too lightweight, cracked, crushed etc. but most common of all the earth posts are inadequate, too short and not into damp soil. (quite often 5 gall of water poured steadily over the post will rejuvenate a poor earth temporarily) This assumes that the fence unit itself is working correctly and insulators are in good order!!
Actually ground raw beans work well with rumen animals. 1 of the southern state colleges did a bunch of research with ground raw beans on dairy cows and found that while the protein was lower than soybean meal, the butter fat content of the milk went up. It won't work with hogs. That's where you have to use soybean meal. Raw beans will inhibit their growth.
What I was saying is that they are being added as a protein source and without rupturing the oil cells they are not a usable source of protein for the cows .
nothing better than the sound of an old poppin johnny doing work, especially in the early mornings! I miss my old 60
Great video. Takes me back to my good old days on the farm! Thanks Wes and Tim!
What a lovely video - it's so good to see the old girl earning her keep with some good old heavy stationary pto slog, and what a great sound of that two cylinder power-plant! Thanks for your time again, Wes.

Interesting video Wes! Love the old tractors. Looking forward to the next news you share of that lemon mower 240.. Thanks
as a young Canadian bush kid, this looks like the best possible way to spend my working life
Those old tractors just pull and work that's what they do I really love seeing them work I had my jubilee out yesterday doing some brush hogging by the road still 6 volt with the Sherman trans I restored her from the ground up I had 3 people stop and ask if it was for sale not a chance in hell I'm selling her love running these old tractors it's fun great vid the Deere was impressive
Two cylinder john deere have incredible torque. It would be cool to see a video of the rest of the dairy barn. Like watching your videos.
Nothing beats the sound of those old Poppin Johns!
my 60 didn't like being on our model 95 gehl grinder.Got up to 200 grinding ear corn. Thanks for the video Wes!
The old feed grinder brings back memories. When I was a little chap, my uncle lost the top of his finger in the grinder because he took the cover off and then turned it on and didn't stop it while putting the cover back on.
You can keep telling a cow not to jump the fence, but it just goes in one ear and out the udder.
lol
Hey a part of the OLF operation we haven't seen before! Thanks guys.
Do you throw any Hay into the grinder for fill? We always love the polled Hereford. They had NO horns which was best and they were like big puppies (especially the ones we broke) but even the wild ones were very calm compared to maybe an Angus or especially a Holstein.

love that tractor workin, sounds great!
I miss the old equipment working
Nice tractor love the sound of the ol john Deere.

Good old iron, still got what it takes to get the job done.
Real horse power. Nice video wes, great to see the ol' girls working.
old tractors doing wot they are made to do love that vid wes. can we have more of that I love watching old tractors working?
old is gold.
Love seeing the 720 work. The two cylinders have tons of torque power. I'll bet your 60 would run it at a decent pace. My two cyl is a beast for a 50 (520). You should hook the 60 up sometime just to see.
That's one fine "Hoyt-Clagwell" you got there. Love to see this kind of vid. Keep up the good work.
Its good 2 exercise the old iron every once in a while u should make more videos of stuff like this
Love the old 2 cylinder beast. Not sure if I love the unguarded PTO though, did the casing come off?
Love grinding feed with our artsway 450 and our jd 4020 or 4040
Love to see the old girls on the job

6-71T detroit power ,, helps A LOT with that ,,, I hated the waukeshaw diesel ,JUNK it had before
love the farmall sm and jd 720 want to see the restoration of that regular m !
Nice video Wes!!! Thumbs up!!!!
love your videos keep em coming!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a real tractor!!
Would you like to make more videos about the farm itself?
And the buildings?
Greetz,
Gerben
Perfect jobs for those tractors .. plus they get to move .. Run . Etc .. win Win .
like'n them videos wes keep up the good work buddy
What is that at 4:53? does it have a gas powered starter or something..?
Did you have a screen in the mixmill we used to grind corn with no screen yours looked like it was pretty fine
my guess is the smaller tractor has a different gearing on the power takeoff , it should give it some more torque at the cost of some speed
What's in your ration Wes? And about how much? If you don't mind telling the recipe!?! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.
Allthough the 720 has "only" 59 HP, i really do think it has a massive amount of torqeu for that 59 HP. Don't know what the displacement is of that thing, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's more then that other tractor who couldn't run that machine?

I think he term you want is "There is no replacement for displacement." That massive flywheel on the side of the Deere engine helps, too.
I am proud of u !!! no joke , keep going
We use to grind ear corn that ground harder then shelled corn added soybean meal salt and dried molasses and about 5 good bales of hay
We had a steer, when I was growing up, that you couldn't keep in the pasture. Didn't matter what the fence was. If he decided he wanted what was on the other side, he went through it. It's got the torque at the sweet spot that the grinder is working. Probably a lower RPM than the higher HP tractor peak torque.
2 cyl tractor will will keep up with any 4 cyl 10 to 12 hp greater
Wes, the 720, 730, 820, and 830 engines produce huge foot pounds of torque.
Neighbors always used 1 a super M ,,,2 farmall 450 ,,,out pulls a 3010,,,3 720 JD diesel
yeah one year our one unloader fell and that is not a nice sound hearing that come back down. we fixed the thing and it worked fine but never used it sence.
It doesn't matter what breed of cattle you raise they all will jump fences or get out its all in how they are raised and treated by the owner, I've raised Charolais all my life and never had a problem with them.
wes did you know the reason for the wide fly wheel on the right side of the tractors was for a belt drive for machinery options
The 720 puts out 59 imperial horse power.
what's the deal with the norower 240
I think its the torque not the horse power off the engine that makes the tractor work hard.
you should use the 720 more often, its very good on the pto to be fair. nothing wrong with using old equipment :)
A pony motor starter on the 720? I had no idear..
nice sounding johnny popper
great video we have pure and part Charolais cows and you can tell the difference in them haha
did that take a pony engine to start the diesel engine? it sure sounded like it
hope you guys wear ear plugs for ear protection...................
i don't see ear plugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not good.... :( may i suggest everyone has disposable or their own sets to protect one's hearing...
be safe & healthy!!!!!!!!!!
also??? was that the tractor that your were going to rebuild???? just wondering...
I had 2 cows escape on me yesterday I was out in the back field brush hogging and my phone rang my neighbor is frantically chasing them while screaming at me to get out front to help they are smart little buggers
good video
Is your pony motor burning oil?
no pto cover ?
wes did you sell the 4960
great video why don't you try low line black angus there too short to jump that fencing and have little fat on them.
Nice! vid
having trouble with the cows jumping the fence ,,, give them a shock they will never forget
I have a 2500 volt fence to keep deer out of my garden ,, and my neighbor uses one to keep his goats from jumping the fence ,, it will give them a really good ZAP and they won't forget ,,although they might ,, cows lack a good memory for some stupid reason
I know my dog won't go near it ,,, stupid dog lifted it's leg and peed on it ,,he got a good shock and I swear he jumped 4 feet in the air before yelping like he'd been shot in the ass and running screaming for the house
wildcoyote34 the one i use is 4000 and it will pucker your ass if you touch it
awesome ,, I never had one like that but i know a guy with a 7500 volt fence around his Impound lot ,, he runs a tow service
Thanks for the laugh bud

gamlet Gandilyan what is that supposed to say
one of these days put haley helping. maybe on john deer winter project
Low maintenance two bangers would have run the John Deere company out of business. Engineers fixed that with the quad-range.
I'll also add I love deere first but your superM would've handled it too.
Can you please make a video of reject?

the 720 is an ass kicker and charlaise are psycho. I've had pureblood and they only got worse if I crossed them. More 2-cylinder please.
hey man can you make a short movie about the "pony" motors on these tractors?
Sweet
Hey if u went to farm hay just get a johndeere speedrower and a john deere big baler
I was here , elroy
If you kept milking cows would you do things different to better the place or the farm
Do though older tractors have enough horse power to run those types of things
why were you lifting the silo loader and were you angry.
You have to raise the silo unloader to the top before you fill the silo with silage. Otherwise you have to pitchfork it all out by hand...
Later! OL J R :)
I grind grain with a David brown 990
HP has nothing to do with it, the torque is what keeps it running, those two poppers have a looonnnggg stroke = llooottttssss of torque...
My neighbor grinds feed with an AC 170
Old tractors are ausome
That's amazing that that old girl can drive that grinder as well as that!

you've never raised charlaise cattle.
Your welcome!
put a shield on the pto shaft...
What with the glove he dont want to get his hand dirty
I don't think those beans are going to do much good in the ration. A cows stomach can't utilize whole beans they need to be extruded or roasted.
farmrrick grind the piss out of them and its all good

can't beat a john deere
