  • This video gives you some samples of all the different tones you can get from my Session Start preset.
This is the preset I've have used on ALL the sessions and videos I've done and shared on youtube, while I've been using my Vanilla, my white strat-type guitar for more than 2 years.
Since I bought my Helix about 2, 5 years ago I've used this preset ... been developing it every once in a while, whenever there's been an update - or I've needed a certain type of tone for a session or live-show.
All my settings have been dialed in while I've been recording for some project.
In the beginning I was very curious when I had recorded something, and sent it to an artist or producer ... what did they think .. and more importantly - what did the do to my files after they got them.
After a while I stopped asking since they all had replied: "Nothing ... we just imported them to our session ... adjusted the level and maybe the pan ... that's it"
I few times producers had preferred also to get my dry files, and got the full recording as reference ... I have no idea, what they did end up using.
Hope you like the tones and flavors ... for some it might be annoying since I've tried to play "the same" phrase with different pickup settings so you easily can compare the differences ... sorry for that. But personally I prefer if the samples are some kind of comparable when I'm listening.
Also sorry about the video-angle ... first I thought I just would upload the audio ... and I've did only record a video, so I could remember what I did turn on or off in the different snaps, while I could see my pickup choices.
Later I realized that it was probably more fun to watch the session while listening, even it's lousy camera work ...
If you want to but this preset you'll find it in my webshop here: reiff.dk/gear/...
Here's an overview of the content in the video - hope you'll enjoy :-)
00:09 Snapshot 1 - Clean amp for rhythm parts
1:05 Snapshot 2 - Phaser - very similar til snapshot 1, but with phaser turned on as default and some of the add-ons thru stomp box mode is Dailed in differently to snap 1
1:58 Snapshot 3 - Crunchy Dry for rhythm parts with some amount of overdrive - all the add-ons are setup for this too, so they match levelwise.
3:06 Snapshot 4 - Wah/tremolo. I prefer to have the wah turned on as default in this snap, so I avoid the bright and harsh sound when you use the toe-down-switch. Maybe you want to use it for some crunchy tremolo sones instead - that’s already prepared and engaged from stomp mode.
4:01 Snapshot 5 - Saucy - a spacious and ambient flavor. Ready for solos reached from stomp mode, or even more spacious flavors with all the add-ons prepared for that ambient type of tones.
5:04 Snapshot 6 - Crunchy Dry - again for rhythm parts, but with more bite and more intense overdrive settings
6:02 Snapshot 7 - Crunchy DL - one of my solo-snaps. This one is for more bluesy og transparent type of leadtones. Tons of variatons are ready from different pick-ups choices, swapping between or combinations of stacking the four overdrives I use in this preset.
6:59 Snapshot 8 - Solo Wet - dialed in with more intense overdrive settings on the different overdrives. Again you can choose one of the other overdrives - it’s already dialed in for same output level and with some kind of the same degree of saturation, but off cause differently sounding since it’s another drive. And again I’ve also prepared some options so you easily can stack some of the drives as well … or change to another delay, add the tremolo, phaser, chorus or double track flavor … like in all the other snapshots.
8:13 Snapshot 1 - adding some of the drives to that default amp and reverb setting I’ve chosen, plus adding the doubler.
9:06 Snapshot 1 - clean with some delay for soloing
9:14 Snapshot 1 - with the vibrato added … here you can easily hear how the comp help keeping a great output level, while playing super dynamic.
10:36 Snapshot 4 - without the wah but with the tremolo. Again with different drives engaged … all the other add-ons … the two delays, phaser, chorus is available again, but I don’t use them here
11:30 Snapshot 5 - used for soloing … engaging the delay increases the output volume for a lush clean leadtone
12:08 Snapshot 7 - here I run thru some of the other drives and the tones I’ve dialed in here
13:27 Snapshot 7 - still messing around with the possibilities from the different drives, but here with a more mid-push core sound from my pick-up choice … great tones if you want to cut thru the mix.
14:34 Snapshot 8 - my go-to snap for more high-gain lead tones. Again I run thru how the other drives are dialed in for a bit more saturation and sustain
15:49 Snapshot 8 - with my bridge as humbucker and the wah engaged … having fun
16:26 If you for some instance want to hear the amp, cabs and mics I’ve chosen without anything added. Just for reference.

I have been using these presets for a while and I must say that it opens up a new world of usability of my Helix, not least when performing live.
    This is great stuff, Søren🎸!
I am looking forward to the next update, hopefully including the clean Paul Jackson Jr. direct line-in sound

I use these presets for my main live setup. It sounds GREAT and it cuts right through in the middle of my six man band's sound. Perfect for rythm and solos - no need for bleeding ears!
I like it a lot, Søren!
It makes my Hlix life much easier ;-) Looking forward to the next update.

As an experienced Helix user, I have gone through a great many presets. I like versatility and a good basic sound. I have all of Søren's presets and I will admit that I actually ended up using this exact preset as my main sound for live use, minimal tweaking has been necessary. When you have this preset, you have the universal key to perfect sound for almost everything. You can supplement with the 3 other presets that Søren has made. Søren, it's damn well done. Thank you very much.....

I was going round in circles tweaking presets and trying to balance presets achieve a consistant tone and never been quite happy with the outcome. However, I've loaded a set list with just Soren's Presets and havent needed to do anything else other than re-order the layout of snapshots to what I'm used to. The presets as they are provide a terrific range of useful sounds with a ton of options so if you need more stomp effects they're already to go with occasional slight output EQ to suit the venue. Many good comments from band members and gig crowds for the awesome guitar tones.
Many, many thanks Soren 😃My Helix has come alive and found it's purpose in life.......
