It is so hard to find a version of this song performed like this. A lively tempo and a strong vocal delivery turns this song from a droll Christmas standard into an actual celebration. I feel as though this song was meant to be sung with power and emphasis, like this woman is.
I first heard this song ironically in the movie, Candleshoe. My grandmother used to hum it. But, I had no idea of the history of this important song. This version is absolutely beautiful. ❤
This version truly reflects the romance , emotion and a distant past that it should, The song is beautiful and wholesome. It is a perfect song of longing reflection
How lovely! And how clever to include the Francis Cutting version as well as your own variations. "Geensleeves, now farewell, adieu, God I pray to prosper thee, for I am still thy lover true, come once again and love me!"
Exactly what I was looking for. Took me a half hour of searching various versions, but this is the real deal - with costumes and setting as well! Beautiful performance. Thank you!
When people go though things sometimes they might come out a little humble and have a little empathy... also every era is terrible in its own way, and people today if they were some how sent back in time to live in the Renaissance era, they would most likely not be able to handle it especially adults still living at their parents home who need to grow up, sometimes it has nothing to do with where they are living it is hard to even put my finger on it, but it seams I have dealt with way to many people lately who need to grow up, and while I'm at it I think that steampunk is rubbish, rather the person who is into steampunk is into history or not it is still rubbish, but when they are not into history and say some odd or even dumb things about how great the past was it makes me even more annoyed. When I see a person with a disability and I know them well enough to know they have good reasons to be living at home with their parents even though they want to live on their own, that is the only exciptible way it is even as far as I am concerned ok when you are an adult and you are still living with your parents other then you are much older now and you move back home to take care of them or something like that, or you lost you job and had to go back home then, THEN I would understand. It's ok to play around sometimes and have fun but I have seen enough of this bs where the people just don't group up!
I couldn't agree with you more! Plague, disease, war, privation -- not my idea or a good time. May be a nice place to visit for a day or two, but I need my toilet paper!
Humility is a subjective concept and means different things to different people, but learning to "take out the trash"; the removal of which, in its most stifling form, entails getting rid of certain individuals, becomes, as I've experienced, a greater measure of personal growth than humility. People who concern themselves with those who live at home, live with their parents, have disabilities, have irksome opinions that rub them the wrong way, and then, in their eternal wisdom (syntax and spelling ability notwithstanding) feel compelled to vent frustration to anyone willing to listen, often mask a litany of personal issues that time, and individual failure, has proven to be insurmountable. I've known, both directly and indirectly, of some young individuals who siphon money from their parents to pay for gas, car insurance, and an endless supply of pot, ecstacy, cigarettes and alcohol. While these benefactors remain a constant source of such dependency for their children, these same benefactors reaped financial reward from their own parents and failed to realize how easy it is to steal from a psychologically impaired father and think no one has noticed the circumstances. Family dramas move forward, uninterrupted and unchecked, while the actors point sanctimonious fingers at the world, without truly looking at themselves...or their children. Perhaps you should look at your own children, instead of talking about other peoples families. There is a reason why two prestigious high schools permanently expelled your son, my dear. But lets no "go there", shall we? It wont be pretty, you "good wife and mother".
Hah! Dentistry without anesthetics and worse after you were hit by cannon ball they would amputate your leg with a hacksaw after a jug of rum and sometime without even the rum. And all you needed to do was to look cross-eyed at Henry VIII and you'd get your head amputated on Tower Hill.
It is surprisingly difficult to find a version of beauty with this piece, they tend to be much too light (popular music) or too elaborate artsy partsy (classical). This, I find, is natural and appealing. There is credibility, finally. Thank you.
Alas my love ye do me wrong To cast me off discourteously And I have loved you for so long Delighting in your company Greensleeves was all my joy Greensleeves was my delight Greensleeves was my heart of gold And who but lady Greensleeves / [Ay, amor, me malinterpretas Al rechazarme de forma tan descortés Y yo te he amado tanto tiempo Disfrutando de tu compañía Mangas Verdes era toda mi alegría Mangas Verdes era mi dicha Mangas Verdes era mi corazón de oro Y quién sino lady Mangas Verdes]
Exquisite balance of musician, singer visual and mood - a triumph and brief reflection to an age long past (by their efforts brought to life and now ostensibly, with us still)..!
Wes Hāl thou troubadours of the highest order! I greete thee fayre Lady and thy stalwart companion. I drop at thy feet coins of gold and flowers of strong scent. Ribbons for the goode Lady's hair and a flagon of Mead for my Lorde 🗡
Gut gemacht, prima! Wieso hast du lust so zu machen? Sehr schön, danke. ❤
As i already told time ago, i like also this version so classic, and could be the more original.. But without Maestro Williams, in his version done long time ago, in a very classic arrangement, this melody song was nothing.. Any should thank this great Maestro, what he left to us.. I' want be clair, i'm a composer, i did many awesome excellent songs (the best melody in this era, i think), and in time even, but this melody is the maximum in musical art..
A very interesting version of this all time classic! But may I ask if the variations in the melody are your own invention or based on an older version of this melody?
In my opinion, this is the finest version of Greensleeves on RUclips.
Te Best.
The best.
the best!
her voice is just beautiful, who can agree
And so is she!
Agreed, but I think the real question is: who cannot? :)
And her accent, so posh, so fancy. Now that's what I'll show people who say I'm posh

Yes, indeed.
This performance gives a rouge, like me, an inner jump. How sophisticated and elegant; medicine for the human spirit.
Indeed
I still come back to this every year… so beautiful! ❤
Same here
Best version ever I feel. Wonderful voice!
I agree
@@stevelowther9951 I agree too
I first heard this song ironically in the movie, Candleshoe. My grandmother used to hum it. But, I had no idea of the history of this important song. This version is absolutely beautiful. ❤
Sung like actual bards would have sung it . Simple lute and voice . Love it !
I went back in time to the 16th century. Beautiful singing to that barocke lute. Wonderful.
This is the best version on RUclips! Also the Cutting Variations make it far more interesting in the middle part ☺️
True
This version truly reflects the romance , emotion and a distant past that it should, The song is beautiful and wholesome. It is a perfect song of longing reflection
What a wonderful voice, it brought me to tears
Beautiful voice ... just what I was looking for in this song.
This video is, truly, a time machine.
Thank you!
a magnificent work, a sweetness to the ears ... exciting story, love the dream of the time, it is also the singer a real beauty! I love it!
Love this song, I even play a part on the keyboard.
This is beyond beautiful. I have always loved this song and this was just a perfect.
Berolinus
Preciosa melodía. Perfecta la cantante.
This is the original Greensleeves!
a song that gets to the inner soul - heartbreaking, wistful, uplifting, reflective all at once
Such melody and sophistication- makes me wish I experienced life when it
was first composed.
Melodic and perfect....

@Blabloo72 Paula Bär-Giese soprano & pianist - Holland
thank you, forever. the original Greensleeves.
The haunting melody of a glimpse of England lost
Alas my love ye do me wrong
To cast me off discourteously
And I have loved you for so long
Delighting in your company
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight
Greensleeves was my heart of gold
And who but lady Greensleeves
