Sure he does! It´s good to hear that from a tremendous musician like you, Nathan. Jeff had always been a big influence on me. Greetings from a peruvian drummer!

Nathan, you as well as Jeff, John, Leland, and all the studio cats in LA and NY and all points in between have created some of the most amazing music and performances that will live on in the History of recorded music. Loved your stint in Toto with Simon for the 35th anniversary Tour, you guys created some magical sounds together, wish you had stayed. We all miss Jeff 'cause there was so much more music left to be made, and that magic may never happen again... 🤔👍 Peace! 😊
Jeff's groove on Lowdown is legendary ! Silk Degrees ; TOTO - was a phenomenal band . Rosanna ; Africa ! Steve Lukather is now a guitar legend ... 👍 Some of the best music of the rock era the last 30 yrs ... Family was so musical ; Father was incredible . God bless your soul.... 🙋♂️🎷👏🏆🙏
I was 15 when I heard my first Toto song. Hold the Line was playing on the radio. Before that moment I'd never heard such great music. I mean it had such a polished groove to it! I will always look up to & admire his playing & after seeing JR talk of how nice a person he was, only gives me more admiration for him! I can only imagine how good he'd be if he were still around today?
A giant talking about another giant, Porcaro and Robinson were in practically every session recording of Los Angeles in the 80s; those studio musicians should be much more recognized by the masses. They should even be officially recognized by the United States government due to their breathtaking contributions to American and world music (including you Mr. Sklar). Heartfelt and amazing video!
Jeff's legacy transcends music for me. The epitome of "honing one's craft." His groove is accompanied by a mysterious feel no others can replicate and few drummers have had.
Beautifully said William. In this day and age musicians are often acknowledged for how many notes they play, as opposed to how those notes are played with passion, feeling and groove. Jeff, Danny Seraphine & Stewart Copeland are amongst my deepest inspirations as a drummer/percussionist and I will be forever in their debt for what they gave in life. Jeff still inspires me even long after his passing. He was a legend in the highest regard.
This man was and still is the best drummer on the planet!!!!! Goddammed he had the best grooves for every song! And all his grooves sounded so good. Its a shame he died so young, because of him I started drumming. He will be missed but his music lives on for ever! I still get tears in my eyes If I hear some old Toto songs especially where Jeff played the drums. It does something with me, I never had that feeling with any other artist out there. He was my drum hero, and I really miss him. God bless you Jeff in heaven! Bye Superman!🙌🏻
I just stumbled apon great to hear about all the stories of Jeff Pacaro. He played with such great timing you could tell within a couple bars who it was. What a family, what an individual what a musician.A true american story and what a loss.A terrible loss starting a family and he was gone.He will surely missed but not forgotten.RIP JEFF PACARO.
great to hear from one of Jeffs comrads, JR legend, speaking of what a great human being Jeff was, in addition to his legendary drumming. Totally absolutely no musical ego with Jeff, he just gave humanity his gift of musical talent joyfully. no strings attached. He was taken away from us all too soon. Why do the good die young?
These guys are truly The Emperors of Drumming....still unmatched by anyone: Jeff, Carlos Vega, John Robinson.....Thanks to them I became once a pro-drummer. They are and they will ever be pieces of my heart! God bless 'em all. Carus Alambra 🙂
Mr Sklar and JR, thanks for the tribute to the one and only Jeff Porcaro. I remember exactly the time and place I was at when I heard that he had passed. I am very fortunate to know JR personally and he is also one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. JR wished he could have played drums with JP. I actually got to play with JR for a week during a duo clinic tour we did back in 2004 for Yamaha. What a blast! Thanks again. Sincerely, Erik Smith, Norway.
Right on JR , You , Jeff , Carlos Vega , Steve Gadd basically covered most of the music that was "Pop" 'Groovy Jazz R&B throughout 70's and 80's That had sophistication , Mainly because or i should say a BIG part to make the records Super enjoyable . JR ,and your work with Quincy alone , Also very recognizable touch on the drums . So thank you for that sincere Tribute to Jeff .
How many great recording sessions shared both amazing drummers... When I hear Steve Winwood's "split decision", I think about Jeff's groove Beautiful tribute, Leland
No offense but Jeff porcaro doesn’t play on the back in the high life album by Steve winwood . It’s JR Robinson drumming on that album and the roll with it album . JR had a huge Jeff porcaro influence . I own the album and have looked on then credits many times 😎🎸
You can listen to his friends and tell what he meant to them, and what kind of person he was. I can only hope that I leave such an impression on my loved ones. Jeff's loss in my opinion was one of the greatest ever in the music community.
jeff your spirit lives in your kids and everytime i hear a track youre on..You changed my life as a player....Your soul filled playing will never stop having positive influence where there is real music honored and played...Thanks Mr.Sklar
Learning a lot more now about Jeff from these clips- Great stuff!,wish I could have known him!Musicians and people like that are so few, too few!And I know who Leland Sklar is!!! An amazing Bass Player, saw you with Toto-Thank you!
What a wonderful person and an incredible Drummer you are JR! And thank you for sharing your story. Jeff was Superman for me also. And thank you, Lee for making this available for us all. You are also well respected as a bass player/studio/band guy!
Wonderful to hear. John really hit on something when he said that you could identify Jeff's drumming in just two beats. I can hear it myself and I'm not a drummer.
In addition to being a fantastic drummer, I have never seen a guy with such a huge smile and one that made him stand out above the rest. He will surely be mised.
Lee Sklar, ..man you have just about played with every famous musician on earth...I first heard of you 30 years ago when seeing your name credited on a couple of Hall & Oates early records. Just amazing man..!
Luis Miguel busca una mujer; is a cassatte recorded in 1987 by both of this drummers, all the songs in this album are amazing! Search for: pupilas de gato if you want a hear one of the grooviest from the greatest
@rrdrums1: for me a great drummer is somebody who inspire millions of others & gives fun to people hearing his groove/music. There is no need for a drumsolo or any other circusshow. Who beside some drummers will remember a good solo after years. But everybody will know a good and inovative groove of a outstanding song. Gadd is great but a real great drummer don't need a solo. Guys like J.R, Jeff, Ferrone, Roger Taylor.Question: what legacy has a drummer like Thomas Lang give to the music world?
At 1:50 in, JR captures not only the essence f of Jeff Porcaro, his uniqueness, but that goes for all the greats. Sure, there are drummer who could play faster, or had larger kits. But forget about who can play a better drum solo. That's nice and all. I'm a bass player. If you can't play the groove of the song, be in the pocket, and play with taste and distinction and compliment yur fellow bandmates????.... I don't want to play with you. JP was a MONSTER PLAYER! Period! Still miss his playing.
Why would you say that about John Robinson? Besides JP and Steve Gadd, he is one of the most recorded drummers in music history, as well as playing on some of the BIGGEST songs ever recorded. Who gives 2 shits if Jeff EVER did a drum solo? Few people on this planet could ever even hope to touch Jeff's feel, groove, time, etc. Sols are not prerequisite to being a great drummer. They are secondary. I think Robinson will be okay without your approval!
Ok, so you are into drum solo only ? When you watch a movie, are you interested in the dazzling special effects, or in the story ? Personally I am more into the story. There are very good sci-fi movies with very few SFX, which are impressive because of the acting, and the story. There are sci-fi movies with the best SFX ever seen, but are bad because of the story which is not compelling, because of the actors who are terrible, etc. Jeff didn't solo. He did music, that's why he was so loved.
Porcaro was amazing. Others are too. But that doesn't take away from Jeff's gift, and his gift to us. Stop the bad mouthing and invalid comparisons. It serves no one and nothing.
True drumming is keeping the backbeat, keeping the time, keeping the rhythm. It has nothing to do with showboating solos. I've seen and heard drummers who are great at solos but totally suck when playing with seasoned musicians.
It’s obvious that you are completely alone with your opinion. And it is a big impertinence to talk in that way about John R. He probably made more people dancing, singing and smiling with his drumming than Steve. And this is for sure. Music is not being the fastest, being the one with the best (sportive) technical skills! Music is about creativity, emotions and songs that will last forever… Period!
Jeff lives in my heart forever!

Jeff is a legend
Legends Never Die.....
Did you lay the bass track on keep forgetting with Jeff sir?
Nathan, with my respect.. I like you both played together on David Foster's concert.. superb, what a talent you all. God bless you
One thing I always noticed, Jeff smile when he is playing. Thanks you John and thank u Jeff

Jeff Porcaro was and still is the best drummers. I miss you dearly. I will always remember your beautiful smile. Love you always
Seriously, drummers are the backbone of any band!! They set the bar & beat & Jeff had the beats down to a T!!! Much luv to J. P.! RIP
Def!-the end of lowdown is sublime even after a couple hundred times hearing..

Superb tribute - his grooves changed my life from the first time I heard them. You're missed buddy ...
I miss him soo much .The absolute king of the groove. RIP Jeff..Love u..
One of my heroes...talking about JP,my ultimate drum hero!
You are one smart man-excellent taste in drummers proves a lot to me.
What sweet words from a benevolent man! Thanks for sharing these words and memories! ♥
Jeffrey Porcaro is a national treasure. The day he transitioned, music changed forever. Rest peacefully, Jeff.
I always thought Jeff was also a national treasure indeed.
A global treasure.
Thank you for Jeff , Mr.John and Jeff :great drummers ,and spiritual person...I LOVE !
Thinking about Jeff on his Birthday! Great tribute to him John and Leland....

IronMan93 you can add Gadd to that mix
There are dozens of musicians you can add along like Abraham Laboriel, Robbie Buchanan etc. studio session musicians.
@@daniellevin3056 If we start to count the studio cats from both NY and LA...

Thanks, Lee, for doing these vids. Never met Jeff. But he's alive through the people he was friends with.
Loved listening/watching JR reflecting on Jeff......Thank you so much for doing these interviews Lee! cheers
Jeff will live on with his music, thanks for being the drummer you were/are. I'll enjoy watching for many years!

John Robinson is so gracious with his thoughts on J.P. and rightfully so, but, John isn't too shabby of a drummer either.
He played with Ruphus
@@perpersson5562 Bad ass band!

Never quite understand how John never sat in the ToTo drum chair. If only at least for one tour. My goodness.
Glad you feel that way, rrdums1! More work for those of us who get it.
