The greatest of the greatest artists. If not for you and your tutorials, I'd probably be a shitty artist. You have brought more money to my life through art. Thanks a lot.
The grey charcoal could only get so dark right? I understand the building up the layers, but sometimes I feel I may have gone to dark as I'm building my layers. I want to learn more and understanding how to make my portraits more realistic. Well its really more around the eyes or making the texture of the skin and the pores more real.
Hi, you can try using Jakar charcoal instead of graphite which is what I do. It's compressed charcoal and comes in different shades of grey. So I sand them to a powdery form and apply with a soft brush

Wonderful
Are you starting with the grey charcoal, and then for the darker parts do you use the darker charcoal?
Yes that’s what I’m doing but even with the darker parts I build up the tones from light to dark

Wow nice
So I assume you are just using the same brush fo the various tones. You don’t have a separate brush for each grade of charcoal do you?
I have a brush for the about 3 of the lighter grades and another for the darker ones..then a smaller thinner brush for small areas
Are you using Bristol?
yes I am..strathmore..you can find the tools I use in the description
When I try to use paint brush it takes away the graphite instead of adding to it. Idk man
