    I've been playing drums less than a year and that hi-hat groove is kicking my butt

    • @potassiumchloride2542
      @potassiumchloride2542 3 года назад +2

      Pretty sure a one year drummer can pull it out. Also depend how much hour you have put in. But generally the hihat groove isnt that complicated once you get it.

    • @litnyte
      @litnyte 2 года назад +1

      It did me too. I've been playing for years, but the first time playing it for me it was tricky. I waited for our first break and sat there and just slowed it down to like 80bps and registered each hit on count. After that I just sped it up.

    Quite possibly the best sounding snare I've ever heard!!! It's such an art to get a well tuned and EQed snare, but you guys nailed it.

      @@MV-ot8kr I have to say, the drummer here (Geraldine?) doesn't seem to be over complicating...everything has a good solid feel, yes with a few grace notes or accents here and there. In general, I am all for keeping it simple too...bless

      I just got some of the same cymbals! The ride is a 24" epic and the right crash is a studio, looks like a 20". The hat and other crash are classics, not sure of the size but if I had to guess i would say 18" crash and 15" hats.

    What kind of snare skin is that??? Is that black ring on top an extra add on piece or is it part of the skin. Snare sounds nice and deep, I imagine it's mostly from EQing and editing, or a trigger maybe? Thanks!!

    Sounds great but the tom work in the verses and bridge are different than the recording. Especially in the bridge - there is no tom work shown on this video but it's on the recording. Just played this in church last week so I studied the recording pretty closely.

    • @joshsevers
      @joshsevers 9 лет назад +1

      Pretty sure there is a drummer and a percussionist (or just two drummers) on the album version; I think this is just a tutorial on how to play it with just one drum set.

    • @taylortubbs6854
      @taylortubbs6854 9 лет назад

      Go check out the live video. There are 2 guys playing drums. In the intro and verses, one guy playing kit, one guy playing percussion and bass drum. And on the bridge, the guy on the kit is playing a straight 1,2,3,4 on the hats, and the other guy is the one playing the 16th note stuff on another set of hats. Pretty sweet though when you make the sound with one person. Enjoy!

    • @zachhale7281
      @zachhale7281 8 лет назад +1

      +Aaron Nailon as they said below the album version is played with two drummers, but I've found that it's really easy to fill in some linear patterns on the toms, or apply some flams within alternating eighths and sixteenths with quarters on the kick. Keeps the pocket tight, still straight, but adds flavor and doesn't sound as bland as this.

      +Sergio Jiménez That is because they are doing a version that works with just one drummer. Since the live recording has a secondary percussionist.

    In my opinion the drum break at 3:12 wasn’t as good as it is in the track

    • @litnyte
      @litnyte 2 года назад

      I play different rudiments that I think fills it out more personally. I also continue heavy toms in second verse like the first verse but adding snare in with it bc I feel like there is depth that is set and removed to quickly if you don't. I don't even hit high hat until the 3:12 mark
