    Most impressive is how good it looks with how little time you invested, but I'm sure that's a product of you knowing what youre doing. Love the versatility factor you talk about, I've took many patterns and altered them with "environment appropriate" color schemes

      @@BlaineKK37 Thanks! Sponge painting like this strikes me as faster than using stencils or stickers, but I don't have any experience with those to compare the process or the results.

    Stainless Steel wire wool is as good as natural sponges. Just loosen the wire from the roll then squeeze into shape, for the holes that are in natural sponges press the wire wool onto different sized balls such as marbles, steel bearings etc. The wire wool will hold the shape. So much affordable just make sure that you buy the oil/grease less version used in joinery.

    You're one of the few people who sprays in both in short and long sprays of the base paint. Everyone else I see act like they're scared to spray paint and put alot of effort into a simple project. Like this method. As they say got build a better mouse trap. The avocado would have worked out great after the flat clear coat.

    Actually Flecktarn was used by the German military from back before WWII. I like the pattern too, but now that I'm a civilian I prefer Real Tree camo. For my firearms I use the "laundry bag" method but might try this method next time. Hydro dipping also looks pretty neat. Like to see other guys getting their guns cammo'd up too. Yours turned out great.

    I was looking for a video on flecktarn Camo painting cause I'm planning on painting my ar12. Flecktarn is probably my favorite camo pattern, I'm of German ancestry mostly so that might play a role but it's also really effective here in the pnw in the woods and mountains. Thanks for the upload. And yeah pretty much everytime I go to paint something either some stupid fly gets stuck in wet paint or if I'm spray painting it'll be a windy day and the wind gusts will wait til I pull the trigger so I go through about twice as much paint as I otherwise should need to.

    Interesting. This was done on synthetic stocks?
    I'd have been a bit squeamish about brake cleaner (ether?), and, especially, acetone on a synthetic stock.
    May try the urban version on a Mini-14 stock.

    • @DrThunder88
      @DrThunder88  2 года назад

      Not to worry! Nylon, commonly used in injection molded stocks, has excellent resistance to the active ingredients in both regular (tetrachloroethylene) and non-chlorinated (acetone, alcohol, heptane, toluene) brake cleaner. I would be more concerned if the stock was carbon fiber or fiberglass laid up in epoxy, as that resin can get loose in at least a few components of Brakleen.
      Thanks for watching, and good luck with your project! If you think of it, let me know how it turns out for you!

    the cammo colors on the jacket are olive drab, khaki, yellow-green, red-brown and black. your red-brown and black are close...the greens on the rifle are more towards the blue scale than yellow. personally, I would go over all of the greens with a olive drab or a grey/green. the 'glaring' question..is...why didn't you paint the barrel?

    • @DrThunder88
      @DrThunder88  4 месяца назад

      They were roughly the same size, but the package contained three randomly-sized, natural sponges. Each was tennis ball size or smaller. I tried to use a different sponge for each color to eliminate the problem of color transfer, but I could have used different "faces" of the sponges for each color.

      Hey there! Sorry, I'm not sure how I missed your comment. TiborasaurusRex here on RUclips did a video about this type of painting years ago called "Paint Your Gun - DESERT!!!" He specifically was matching it to the desert area he lives in. The short version is that he uses most of the same colors, but he leads with tan instead of green and (I think) makes the brown more pronounced than the dark green. Anyway, it's worth a watch if you check out his channel.

There were (among others) two more Flecktarn designs, one with smaller elements and the other with less contrast. Beginning in 1986, two Flecktarn designs were tested. Four years later, Flecktarn B was chosen to become 'Kampfanzug 90' (Battledress 90)."
