I used to watch Wendy on "Are You Being Served?" 30 years ago on PBS. Very funny show... I'm glad she had the acting career she wanted. May she rest in peace. 🙏
Probably should have just fired Frankie and had the lads make up a scene interacting with Lady Macbeth. It was a madcap movie, so they could have just done it The Beatles' way. They had a pretty actress and having her on screen actually was more important than anything else. How many girls in the theater audience would say, "I wish I were her playing a scene with The Beatles!" Dick Lester should have known that.
Thanks very much for this insight into the madcap process of rangliing these cool cats on set, during the height of their original popularity! As a 15 year old, I went into downtown Toronto from a then far northern suburb (by bus and subway) to see the film in full wide screen Cinemarama and stereo. We watched it two and a half times through for the dollar or so price of entry, beginning at an early Saturday afternoon matinee showing! 'Lined up all night a few months earlier for concert tickets at Maple Leaf Gardens for the Beatles second North American tour which was a month later than the HELP premiere. (August 1965) 'Paid $5.50 CDN for tickets 50 yards away! Although the introductory acts curated by the boys were great, the Beatles' standard live concert set in those days was barely over 35 minutes long! Perhaps that didn't really matter much as you could barely hear them over the screaming female fans!! I may be really old, but I saw all the best bands through at least to the the end of the 70s! 'A time when many of the venues were much smaller and the prices were very affordable (since tours were primarily to support record sales, rather than the principal source of income - as today)! Wendy Richard, the only person banned from Just A Minute because she used to take it too seriously and get nasty with the other players! It’s in Nicholas Parsons’ book.
It's not missing. All films have to be cut to fit time length & choices the Director makes in its narrative. There is plenty more of scenes never used but still always welcomed to see.
