@@AnthonyMonaghan it looks like he did! What an amazing chap he was. Just watching him running through the snow in his vest and underwear was making me shiver. That was an unusual film, wasn't it? 😊
Damn, what a great movie. Von Sydow and Trevor Howard were wonderful, and the supporting cast was excellent. I'd say more but I wouldn't want to inadvertently insert any spoilers. The thing about picking out movies based only on title or who is in it, is that sometimes one finds a gem like this, a veritable Hope diamond of a film.
I love those nostalgic movies.... when u remember from a time long ago. I watched the Mechanic with Charles Bronson the other day and remember watching it with my dad back in 73 .
@@SIERRATREES 'Memory Unlocked' Same for me; Watched it with my Dad!!! That ending eh? I haven't seen it since the mid-80's... I'm going to track-it-down later 😁
Watching from Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam, can’t believe such a suspenseful outstanding movie. Looking forward to the end result. Thank you all respectfully Leo.
Knocks you off balance from the beginning; dizzying, frightening, tense, disturbing. Takes you on a twisting turning unsettling journey. Another masterful thriller from the 70's. Engrossing, impossible to turn away from. Liv, Max, and Trevor are in top form; hypnotic, masterfully crafted, and completely unpredictable characters. Everybody shines, not least of which the guy who plays Anton. What a ride!? Thanks so much! Much love from Santa Cruz California. GREAT film!
Simply a Magnificient movie ! What a plot , Ingenious ! Sydow was Master, Howard a great one & Liv always a talented beauty! The parrot was Awesome ! Thanks so much for this gem
Did von Sydow not play a game of chess with Death to walk away with his life? That was quite wonderful. I don't recall if he won. Very great accomplishment if he did.
1970 Was One Of Those Splendid Years For Horror Films And Films In General...I Love That Thia Film Took Place In Winter...He Must Gave Been Freezing In Just TShirt & Shorts...
So I watched this in full last night and I'm still cogitating on it. I wont spoil the story for others, but that ending ? The creators must think we are lunatics to believe what happened haha Good film though, but what do you expect from a stellar cast of actors. I see now from the comments that it was actually filmed in Sweden and Holland, it was blowing my mind during the film, but I couldn't get my head around all the English speaking and what looked suspiciously like an English Police force....bonkers 😂
I'll be honest I started to watch this film on the TV many years ago and gave up on it quite early, wish I had'nt done so! What terrific film it is, the storyline is very good and the actors are really on top of their game, I should have stayed with back the day because it's brillant throughou!
Riveting, and so immersive that I expected frigid weather here in the summer when I stepped outside. What a cast! Liv Ullman, Max von Sydow, and themes of insanity in barren Scandinavia are also prevalent in "The Passion of Anna" from about the same year.
Remember seeing this as part of a triple bill at the drive-in when I was 10. It ran with Play Misty For Me & Hitchcock’s Frenzy. I grew up a little that night.
Parrot should get an Oscar . For an axe wielding murderer he is very savvy . Prisons in Sweden should be given a lick of paint ! . Excellent movie 😊 . Thanks. Dave
To be in a asylum close so your family's home is unbelievable. And the parents aren't hysterical over the death of their daughter, nor, the sister over her sister's death? And the police inspector leaving a crime scene unsecured? A unusual movie in a bleak winter setting. Great actors. What a ending!
El abogado estaba a centímetros de una pulmonía, pero Salem saliendo de noche en pleno invierno y casi desnudo, ni un resfriado... :) Buena película. Saludos.
Instead of visiting asylum himself ,the inspector could have made a call to find out whether the suspect was present in the cell....the investigators seemed too slow...
I know it's a minor detail, but as someone from Denmark I find it so odd how the farmhouse is clearly a Danish farmhouse while the asylum is typical Swedish. Scandinavian actors speaking English is also another funny element of this film. I suppose the film was primarily funded by British cash.
Have often wondered since 1971 why this great suspenseful revenge movie's so rarely presented --- now you know why Father Merrin joined the priesthood.
The police could keep an eye on the asylum to see if he could repeat his escape, at least for a while and tell him that Emmy was saved in the hospital and she’s recovering at home, she’s going through some small memory loss. If the parrot wasn’t there, what? Bad police work? Also, before driving fast and furious to the asylum, he could make a phone call, and ask them to check Salem’s bedroom.
Max Von Sidow, Ah yes, he played the priest in the Exorcist, I seem to recall. He was in another brilliant film " The Second Victory " set just after WWII. ( 1986 )
This was a great movie. Held my attention from start to finish. The ending was superb.
You have to get out more
Who knew Max von Sydow was such a physical actor? It looked as if he did most of his own stunts. Amazing.
So, the stunts, were not stunts😂

More most any movie, this one makes the improbable wholly believable. Kudos to the whole cast!
Top actors and well directed.

Superb, Bergman meets Hitchcock!
This is not a Bergman movie.
