    I hope you guys are gonna re-bury that thing and didn't open it. The sign says not to, so just put it back.

      +King Duck - Or keep it in a safer place and try to make as sure as possible the cylinder will survive after 50 generations. Btw, that does sound surprisingly few for a thousand years, doesn't it?

    • @mattiexo
      @mattiexo 9 лет назад +10

      +King Duck More than likely it'll go in a safe and not be opened till it's time. They needed to build there.

    it is extremely beautiful- thinking about those people; their dedication, passion and hope in its burial and their expectations about a beautiful future almost bought tears to my eyes.

    That's amazing. I hope they rebury it for the future. Because, it is antiques, but 1000 years to the future it will be much more valuable and interesting. Awesome video.

      What I find most intriguing is they design a fancy glass container to protect the contents because steel will rust & wood will rot ... and then they use electrical tape to strap a PAPER LABEL on the outside to tell everyone not to open it for a thousand years.

    Why not create a 2015 time capsule and then bury the two next to each other? I think it would be cool to continue to preserve the original intent of the capsule while adding more to it!

    • @galaxia4709
      @galaxia4709 9 лет назад +10

      +Jasondacoolio - Yes, and then every time, human kind is caught to not be capable of respecting the request, add another one, and another one. In 1000 years there would be 20 capsules buried together for every 50 years they are 'discovered'.

    • @TheAntrikooos
      @TheAntrikooos 9 лет назад +6

      +Galaxia you meant 20

    • @timofeydanshin6904
      @timofeydanshin6904 8 лет назад +1

      +Jasondacoolio Yep, let's create a time capsule each year. if you think of the volume of this thing, a thousand of those wouldn't take much space. And then we could build a kind of a library with very well controlled conditions to make sure that these capsules are not forgotten and are well-preserved.

    • @aaronlowe3156
      @aaronlowe3156 8 лет назад

      +Timofey Danshin I love how your argument was well-addressed to my counter argument about volume, lol (I applaud it! Seriously!). I wanted to say, in a thousand year's time, it would be a yearly tradition to open a time capsule...! But hm, I don't think much would change in a year. How about 5?

    Well the thing is, how in the hell is gonna remember that MIT had a time capsule buried under the parking lot in a thousand years? Also if any significant seismic activity happens near there, or something to disturb it en enough it will probably break. Plus they have it in the light who knows what that'll do to it in the next thousand years.

    Я думаю нужно побольше оставлять таких вкладок с информацией об изготовлении лекарственных препаратов, о способах получения электрической энергии, огня и других полезных человеку открытиях и технологиях. И все должны знать, где они находятся. Я бы положил такие послания в самые популярные места, которые посещают туристы всех стран. Например египетские пирамиды или пирамиды ацтеков в Северной Америке и в остатках строений в Перу и Боливии. Тогда в случае глобальной катастрофы выжившим людям не придется изобретать велосипед.

    I think we should open it earlier than 2957, the capsule might be lost or destroyed well before 2957, and it might contain information that could greatly benefit mankind and if we obtained that information hundreds of years earlier than 2957 it might greatly benefit us if we knew this information hundreds of years earlier, what if this time capsule from 1957 somehow predicted 9/11 or Covid-19 or Chenobyl from 1957? If we opened this and got the information we could have prevented them all! Its like the 2009 movie knowing with Nicolas Cage the time capsule contained some codes that predicted disaster that could be prevented, I say we open it very carefully, get as much information out of it as possible, if it turns out to be nothing more than horsesh!t then we put everything back together and then not open it again until 2957!

    It's been tampered.... Great it's like hitting the reset button and gotta start all over. They can't even follow the simple directions on the time capsule. There's no way this is gonna last 1000 years. Also how on earth did they not know it was there? I feel like they should have a record of it

    • @FRISKY_MANDINGO
      @FRISKY_MANDINGO 7 лет назад

      How have they tampered with it? They moved the capsule because they had to put up a building, but they didn't "tamper" with it. They're obviously treating it like the historical item that it is. They couldn't read the note on the capsule without taking it out of the ground, after all.

    • @Wild4lon
      @Wild4lon 8 лет назад +1

      are you dumb? no, let's answer that for you. That's the most stupid thing I heard today, and my friend said she would use lipstick as a substitute for eyeshadow. Latin literature and its studies (classics, ancient history) are very well known, we have documents from letters sent by writers and scholars in Rome. In some cases entire books (the Illiad and the Odyssey) are preserved as part of literature. Modern philosophy and physics builds on the foundation of texts written over 2000 years ago. You might have an IQ of 60 but quite a few others don't; even if the language changes dramatically, language analysis and notes on literature from our time would be able to make sense of pretty much everything, especially since printed books and the internet came into play.

      It might be considered ancient, but with all the clues we left and will leave in the future, I am certain that the English of today will be able to be reconstructed and translated to whatever it is we speak by then.
      Consider this, though: The written English is changing slower than the spoken English. They might have the same words as we do now, but they might also pronounce them differently. I'm confident, they will receive and understand.

    A beautiful letter should only be open in 2957, but all destroy by this lady ...

    The more she smile, the more hate of dumb people I get! "Do not open until 2957" even a kid could read that and understand that.. But still they open it and close it again.. Like someone open your pack with cookies, lick them and put it back in the pack and after a time they give it to you... This video may still exist in 2957 and the people then already know how and what.. So the surprise of what, is an answer that they know!

      +Tristan Hermkens the video doesn't mention anything about opening the capsule... neither does it mention burying it again though, which made me kind of sad

    the knowledge is simple, you are human cells without emotions or feelings, biosynthetic creatures that are program to serve man kind for there happiness, unfortunately Santiago's programming affects the system inside you to believe himself as a human, and desire to be me, that is why women are lost, because they think and want to be like men, not to serve the happiness of anyone, including mine.
    sad how the system failed, is not my failure, is the human cells, as they will never find happiness, because I do enjoy others happiness, that is why the system was created.

    Isn't it weird that MIT had to produce fake 60s and 70s videos where African american men where working in their labs? 5:31
