SOLVED: I found the error on my printer. One of the gear wheels to lock the cardridge came off the motor drife shaft. There are 4 motor under the cover on the right side to lock the cardridges.
Thank you! The left side of the printer was broken. So I forced the upper clip up. But then, the cartridges did not fit. I noticed that there were other clips on the left side of the color cartrdiges slots. I forced them up too (I broke one by doing this so be careful). And now the printer works perfectly. Thank you for having shared this video!
I had one of these today. Both sides broken & the exit sensor actuator broke also. One the left side 2 plastic guides were broken -left slide & mating gear. On the right side just the sliding guide. THANKS! For an excellent & brief descripton of the symptoms & what to look for. The only suggestion I have is tell us how to get those d... covers off! Joel I hope you will keep making videos of hp printers. By the way, I fixed it.😁
You're a saint! Thank you. 10.92.00 error on mine occurred after I replaced black cartridge, and was due to white clip on l. side (black cartridge) being broken; i.e., stays in down position. I threaded rubber band through the clip to hold it up while I slid the cartridge in place. A black clip for the cyan cartridge was also not retracting completely, so I did same thing with that, and we're back in business (at least for now). Thank you for taking the time to record these troubleshooting tips. Most helpful!!
I have the same error and tried to hold the clip up but it doesn't. Can anyone please show where and how the rubber band or the twist tie was used with closeup? any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
Had the same issue, located the cause. After removing the right side cover you will see a white strip of plastic running basically vertical and it’s responsible to open the toner doors, but at the bottom you will find that plastic strip is broken and won’t lift the doors high enough and when there is more than on toner installed cartridge installed that white plastic strip is missing the plastic piece that gives it its final bush upwards. Photo to follow.
It's very easy to resolve this problem. You can take away a little piece from the right of cartridge. So the locking clips of the cartdrige remain open
9 years later, this helped me figure out what's wrong... But I don't know how to fix it. The right side isn't lifting up when the transfer unit is pushed up. Same when I manually push the two hinges connectors that hold the tx unit. Feels like something is weak, like a weak spring.... 2:51 like here... Any advice please?
GREAT video Joel, thank you. The left side wasn't locking, got it taken apart and replaced the left lock slide lever (RC1-6636). Got it put back together, cartridges are locked both left and right when testing w/o the transfer belt but I still get the error 10.92.01. Appreciate any additional insights you may have.
You may need to reset the printer to defaults to clear the message otherwise watch very carefully as you close it to see if the cartridges are opening all the way. Hope this helps.
I have an issue on the left side, too. How did you know what part? My left side clip for the black ink cartridge is not turning when I lift the left transfer belt arm. It's a white clip.
@@heidiberman1694 I took the left side off the printer and it was very obvious that the long black part was broken. I replaced the part and still had the problem. Turns out one of the cartridges was bad, replaced it and it's back to 100%.
A million thanks to Joel for this video (which helped me identify the problem) and for helping me on the telephone to fix the problem which turned out to be very simple in this case. My problem happened to be the white clip holding the black cartridge on the left side. Thanks again Joel!!

Thank you very much. It works with me. God pless you. The left for black was not engaged. I engaged manualy by my hand I used small paper. Make it up. Then I insert the black catridge then I remove the paper and its engaged. Thank you again.
Hi Joel, I have the same printer but in my case my kids were playing by opening and closing the front compartment and turns out that now the printer keeps restarting... it doesn't make any noise... (don't know how to call the start-up noise). Would you know what the problem is? Don't wanna to throw in the dumpster and no pro's around...
Thank you for this video. It did lead me to find a broken latch on the left side. I was able to disassemble the left side and get to the latch and I epoxied the part and seems to be ok. However, I still get the same 10.92.00 code. I did notice when the cartridges are installed that the right side of the ETB does not fully seat and latch. It does latch when the cartridges are removed but then I get the error message that I need to install the media. So the question is, what would prevent the ETB from fully engaging when the cartridges are installed? It does seem like all the cartridges are fully seated. You can hear them "bottom out" when I install each one. When any one of them are installed, the ETB does not fully latch on the right side. So there is something on the cartridges that is not allowing the ETB to full seat. Any ideas?
As a follow-up. Looking at some other comments here I decided to remove the fuser and from above I realized that the cartridge roller covers are not opening up when the ETB is closing so this appears to be why the ETB can't latch because something on the ETB hits the cartridge roller covers when they don't open. So now I know that the right side gears are not opening up the cartridge doors. When I work the right side ETB holder like you do in your video (with the ETB removed), I sometimes see the cams moving and will close the cartridge doors but the action is very weak and most times the roller doors don't fully open. You mentioned in your video that there could be a spring or cam broken. Or does the whole mechanism need lubrication? Do I need to remove the right side cover now to get to the entire mechanism? Unfortunately, I don't see the follow-on video you mentioned you would do.
I appreciate your feedback. I'm hoping this will help others as well. I've noticed as the conversation continues I'm finding that more than one way this thing is breaking over the years.
Hi Joel. I have the same printer. I have problem with cyan cartridge. In a test print it prints cyan only on the right side of the paper. the right side is white. and the border between them looks like a mountain (vertical). There is no repeatable pattern. Great video and thanks. When I move the ESTB on the left, the clips don't move at the same time or very much. I'm assuming they should all move at the same time however I move the ESTB. When I move the left ESTB down, the middle two clips don't move but the bottom color clip and top B&W clip are loose. Any other advice or tips?? Thanks

Just installed three new color cartridges on my HP 3505. I get a Cartridges not engaged. I followed you instruction on a HP 3606 and everone of the cartridges is engaged. I had used an incorrect red cartridge and just now replaced it. Can you give me some guidance.
Thank you for this video - definitely helped me diagnose what was going on with my 3600n. Just installed a new magenta cartridge and I think I narrowed it down to the "window" (for lack of the proper term) on this new cartridge being somewhat sealed tight, not sure why but I was able to break it loose. I guess the printer gears weren't strong enough to do that. On the right side I was able to roll one of 4 white gears and lift one of 4 tabs to open all 4 up and allow cart removal and installation, but... something is obviously broken now as closing the door doesn't automatically open and close all 4 toner cart windows - they're stuck open. And now of course I can't replace the carts at all, they won't come out being locked open and locked in place. When the time comes to do this, any ideas on what I can do? For now I have about 15% remaining on cyan and yellow, but they'll need replacing eventually... cross that bridge when I get to it.
Hey Joel! I waited quite a long time to replace my fuser, it was making cracking noises... it still does it but less, I have a feeling that the wheels are not well placed. Now there's a new issue related to this video, I noticed that on the left side, it doesn't move on its own and the black cartridge on its left side is warped and broken on one point, I even have a feeling that the clip was completely destroyed as well. Is there any way I can replace the left clip? Thank you!
Super helpful for diagnosing my issue, thank you! My issue was on the left side. After getting the side panel off I found that the cam slide (RC1-6638-000CN) on the rod link was busted. Found the part on Amazon and it's on the way. Less than $5 to fix!
This has been a big help. Because of your video I now know that the black toner latch on the left side isn't working. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this? I'm very handy but really reluctant to start taking it all apart without an over all idea of where to start.
Partially insert the toner cart and use something like a straightened paper clip to lift the later, intsert the car fully and release the latch. It should fall back down in to place. Worked for me.
How do I determine exactly what the issue is? I have the exact issue indicated in this video. Without the cartridges installed, the levers that move the flaps on the right go up and down. However, when I install the transfer assembly and the cartridges, the flaps do not go up - even with just one cartridge. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Great Question. The main cause of this printers problem is related to the springs located behind the side panel of the printer. For this printer the problem was the Tension spring - It provides tension for the right side toner cartridge lock lever - Four springs are used.. Others may have to replace more parts then just those. Our Contact info www.savannahitshop.com

Really loved your explanatory video about this error. Helped me resolve mine. I have another problem where my HP 3600n is printing on every page a bunch of stripes that are about 3/8 inch thick and go along the width of the page. The colors are cyan and yellow. I wish I could send a picture of how it looks. I'd love a suggestion. Is it a cartridge issue or a printer hardware issue or something else? Thanks for your input and keep it up!
Mine is on the left side and even though you showed the right side fixes, that white lock is broken. I bought the part but cannot replace it. Can you show that on a video how to replace that white locking mechanism that is not coming down please. Thanks.
having the problem on the left side of mine also. it's the part towards the bottom. something broke so the part that lifts the locks is sliding off the shaft.

+Joel Gulick Were you able to do a repair video for this? Or at least something show what is going on inside the left-hand side of a HP 3600? I am having the same issue as show in this video. Once I removed the ETB and manually operate the ETB levers I see that both the right-hand and left-hand locking mechanisms work fine, but the left-hand lifters fail to operate correctly, consistently, with more than one toner cartridge installed. If I remove all toner cartridges and manually operate the left-hand ETB lever, it will seat itself properly into position and the lifters move fully, as expected. With no toner, repeated operation of the ETB lever works as expected, consistently. Upon inserting a single toner cartridge (it doesn't matter which one of the four cartridges inserted, nor does it matter which bay the cartridge is inserted), manually operating the left-hand ETB lever causes the lifters to operate as expected and fully expose the toner cartridge transfer roller. Upon inserting second toner cartridge and manually operating the left-hand ETB lever, it does not operate correctly; which cartridge and which bay makes no difference in the outcome. With more than on cartridge installed, the lifters fail to move into their proper position and do not fully open the transfer roller covers. When this doesn't operate as expected I can feel some odd resistance in the left-hand ETB lever. It seems that something is either broken or improperly seated inside the left-hand side of the printer. My next step would be to open the case and explore the left-hand mechanisms. While I am confident in my general ability to solve such issues, these kind of videos are very much appreciated and help to provide confidence and certainty. Thanks!
How much should it cost to repair a printer with this problem? I am trying to decide if I should just buy a new printer or if it is worth paying a tech to fix it. Your suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks
+Frank Martinez If your going by cost, I would choose to buy a new printer. Two reasons One the cost to fix the printer by Professional will cost well over $250.00. Second there is no warranty after 90 days from us and others do not even warranty the work provided. This is a known issue with this device and was never reported by HP in my belief. However our values and beliefs are if you can't fix it, it owns you.
it is good and informative. However there should be some video on trouble shooting. For example I get sometimes horizontal or vertical lines on the print and even the print ink is not uniform thought the page. Thanks
i have a problem with the left side...how do i open ? the top (black cartridge) does go in enough (i attached it by a tape, and then the cartridge goes in, but then i see that the right side has a problem too...without the black one, the catridges opens, but with the black cartridge in, no of the other ones work anymore
I have the same error and tried to hold the clip up but it doesn't. Can anyone please show where and how the rubber band or the twist tie was used with closeup? any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
Lauren - I had same issue with the left side clips (white one for the black cart. was not retracting at all, and black clip for magenta cart. was only partially retracted), and workaround for me was threading a thin rubber band through the white clip to hold it up while I slid the cartridge in place. No good threading point for the black clip, so I just threaded around it as best I could and pulled the band straight up while sliding the cartridge in place, and that did the trick!
I had this problem, on the left. The grey plastic lever for the black cartridge seemed to have no spring return, and was loose (floppy) in the down position. I raised the lever with unbent paperclip, inserted cartridge while lever was held up, then withdrew the paperclip. This solved the problem for me. The .00 on the end of the error message indicates problem is actually to do with Black cartridge
Nick, thanks so much. I had the exact same problem and it was the black cartridge. Followed your instructions and in 5 minutes I was back up and running. My hero!
a quick solution for me was at the bottom-right side I had to make an opening and manually push a part to engage the cartridges and problem solved. I had to do it everytime I have to chnage a cartridge.
Don’t see a place to add a picture. Sorry guys. It will require taking the gear set off the right side. If anybody has a diagram on how to realign those gears point me to it.

Great Question. The main cause of this printers problem is related to the springs located behind the side panel of the printer. Where do I get the replacement part to fix this issue? It's a white plastic that moves up and down.
@@scottandannalee I'm not quite sure where you can get that item at, however it may be discontinued as this video is somewhat old. Sorry, I wish I could be of better help.
How can I fix the black lock on the left side.?
good morning I had the same error and thanks to this video it helped me replace what was broken and the same error continues 10.92.00 if you could help me I would appreciate it. Thank you
Really loved your explanatory video about this error.
Sounds like the Fuser but it could also be the ETB (Electrostatic Transfer Belt) hope this helps.
Did you created a video how to replace the part i got the part but i having problems putting it back . Part RC1-6643
Thanks in advance
+Carlos Reyes Jr That's a great question, at the customer's request we where install the provide the solution for the customer due to the cost of the repairs. If you would like you could send in your printer. We could install the parts free of charge as long as you purchased the parts that we request for the repair plus shipping and in return. In your honor we will post a video for all the youtube world to have. You could help many others see the fix.
Thanks!
Hello,
Thank you for the video! Where are you based? I hope I can bring the printer over to you to fix?
How much should it cost to repair a printer with this problem? I am trying to decide if I should just buy a new printer or if it is worth paying a tech to fix it. Your suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for the recommendation
+Frank Martinez did the paper work
SaintAnn TravelAgency Sorry, but no. It did not work.
Very helpful, thankyou.
it is good and informative. However there should be some video on trouble shooting. For example I get sometimes horizontal or vertical lines on the print and even the print ink is not uniform thought the page. Thanks
Fuser Sounds like the problem.
i have a problem with the left side...how do i open ? the top (black cartridge) does go in enough (i attached it by a tape, and then the cartridge goes in, but then i see that the right side has a problem too...without the black one, the catridges opens, but with the black cartridge in, no of the other ones work anymore
So, where's the fix?
I have the same error and tried to hold the clip up but it doesn't. Can anyone please show where and how the rubber band or the twist tie was used with closeup? any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
If you send in your printer we will do a video on how to fix it.
Mine is on the left side. What would I do to fix this????
The clip on the left side of my printer isn't working... How would I go about fixing this?
Lauren - I had same issue with the left side clips (white one for the black cart. was not retracting at all, and black clip for magenta cart. was only partially retracted), and workaround for me was threading a thin rubber band through the white clip to hold it up while I slid the cartridge in place. No good threading point for the black clip, so I just threaded around it as best I could and pulled the band straight up while sliding the cartridge in place, and that did the trick!
Thanks so much Deb Rarig! Fixed my printer!!
thanks man, very helpful vid
+Michael Korben Your very welcome, thank you.
My problem seems to be on the left, black level (newly exchanged)
can I repair this or must a computer store help ?
I had this problem, on the left. The grey plastic lever for the black cartridge seemed to have no spring return, and was loose (floppy) in the down position. I raised the lever with unbent paperclip, inserted cartridge while lever was held up, then withdrew the paperclip. This solved the problem for me. The .00 on the end of the error message indicates problem is actually to do with Black cartridge
Nick, thanks so much. I had the exact same problem and it was the black cartridge. Followed your instructions and in 5 minutes I was back up and running. My hero!
Nick you're the Bomb! It worked for us too! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
THanks, very helpful.
Thank's for nice help! +
noise when calibrating and error message 49.4C02
lift look are broken how can i replace it
a quick solution for me was at the bottom-right side I had to make an opening and manually push a part to engage the cartridges and problem solved. I had to do it everytime I have to chnage a cartridge.
Where did you make the opening and what part did you manually push?
Parts for this printer can be found at laserpros. com. We used part number: RC1-6677. Don't forget to Subscribe.
Hi can someone answer a few questions for me pertaining to this issue shown on this video? Thanks.
+Computer Solutions I went to laserpros.com but couldn't find the parts mentioned. Do you know of another seller I could try? Thanks
Forgot to mention that the lines are reddish.
I wish I could hear you too
SIR MY PROBLEM IS SAME . BUT NOT SOLVE THIS ERROR .
Black ink cartridge won’t go back in properly. Front door won’t close because of this.
was anyone able to get the sides off without a crowbar?
Nice one.
Hello how can I install the driver for window 10 hp 3600 , thank you
Don’t see a place to add a picture. Sorry guys. It will require taking the gear set off the right side. If anybody has a diagram on how to realign those gears point me to it.
great but you do NOT show how to fix it! good job!
Hey Chris if you have your device feel free to send it in and we can make a video on it for you. And then we could share it with the world and you could be a part of it
i help to hp 3800N that CN-xxxxxx i must change it!!! ;) tjks
Thanks Captain Obvious.. I already figured out the problem before your video.. You've done a great job of what it took me 15 minutes to already figure out.... I guess if you walked everyone through the repair you might not get anymore jobs fixing a printer that has no drivers for win 8 win 8.1 and windows 10.. Thankfully I did find an HP service manual online.. I can figure the rest out.. BTW.. The printer works great on Linux when you know how to correctly configure Cups.. Good luck...
yeah where's the followup lol
No sound
Yeah, thought my hearing aid went.
You definitely want to check your volume as everyone else is reporting they're able to hear this video.
